Apologies if a bit too off-topic, but I figured you all would have some good ideas.
The fabric holding in the plates of my steel-toes wears through easily, and when it wears through enough, the plates just fall down and aren't held in place, so they're effectively unusable. The cloth is in between where the top of the toes and the plates, so there's constant rubbing when walking, etc.
Is there any kind of fabric, foam, insert, etc that I could place/affix/somehow attach inside the shoe, to act as a buffer between my feet and the fabric holding in the plates?

Kind of like pic related. Mine just have the plate/toe cap, and one layer of fabric holding it in place ("protection strip in the image). I'd like to slip in something to go underneath the protection strip to protect it from wearing through.

Any ideas?
