Do you guys go to panels when you visit conventions?>What do you like to see?>What do you not like/find boring>What was the best panel you've been to? What could have been better?>What was the worst? What made it bad?
>>10937348Worst panel I've been to was a "Monster Girl Encyclopedia: A dramatic reading" where the girls hosting it couldn't handle it and kept getting offended like they didn't know what they were getting into.
>What do you like to see?Something at least semi-unique. If not, full audience participation>What do you not like/find boringOff-topic trash and "Here's a circlejerk zero effort excuse for me and my buddies to make gay unfunny in-jokes cuz we wanted free passes">What was the best panel you've been to? What could have been better? All my answers would be cheating ex. concert (though in a panel room), my own, karaoke. I'll go with con horror stories then, since those are pure comedy every time. Also "not long enough">What was the worst? What made it bad?A roundtable that I hoped would be a time killer. What i got instead was "Is any black man able to do Black Panther like Chad?", "Why is it ok to get new actors for white heroes?" etc. High school-tier except it was literal grandpas. Later, I learned one of these grandpas publishes his own Yakub-tier stories like "It Happened on Negro Mountain"
I wanna see Weeaboo Kill Tony
>>10937348I don't usually go to panels but I am usually dragged to by my gf. And they have been almost without fail been either woke as shit or boring as fuck. The one I did like hosted by two lesbos talked about resident evil 4's production and how it evolved into Devil may cry. Which was a decent and informative panel but I almost slept though though I wasn't bored. I just can't stand lectures or movies in the dark anymore. And some gay ass magician who could allegedly predict your zodiac sign by reading you.
>>10937348Ask an Anime Character is up there for my fav, but I haven't been in ages since moving. You just got to talk to ENG VA's for popular characters and they'd RP the answers back as well as interacting with the other characters. Was very fun.Otherwise I'm always a fan of the arts n crafts ones where people share tips and show demonstrations. Kinda varies on what you can use but it's always comfy
>>10937348>What do you like to see?A fun crowd, interaction, and a fun over the top premise>What do you not like/find boringAnime Trivia where 90% of the questions are some old ass obscure anime that nobody in the crowd has actually watched. It also pisses me off when the trivia hosts start making fun of the crowd for not knowing "Generic 80's slice of life anime #3984">What was the best panel you've been to? RE4 themed Bingo was fun as fuck, the hosts were great and knew the games and kept making jokes, they'd put up random esoteric memes on the screens, and the prizes were pins of characters, kinder eggs, or other various RE4 theme paraphernalia. The crowd was also great because nobody expected actual bingo so everyone was just making jokes and shit and having a blast playing bingo.>What could have been better? The time was literally only an hour, and the con wanted the panels to end 10 minutes before which made the whole panel 50 minutes long. If it was like 2 hours, it would have been better.>What was the worst? What made it bad?Worst was again, that stupid fucking Anime Trivia panel I went too where it was random anime nobody knew and the hosts were like, "Guiz come on this is middle school level! Are you not weeb enough?"Even disorganized gameshow panels like Jeopardy or other shit involving anime are more fun because atleast they have more SOVL. Had one relating to Fairy Tail that was a mess, but at least it was fun.
>>10937394>casual seethes over being clowned on by their superiors
>>10937398Here's your upvote, friendo! Don't spent it all in one place ;D
>>10937348>>What do you like to see?Educational and/or interactive panels.>>What do you not like/find boringOpinion, pseudointellectual, or dishonest panels.>>What was the best panel you've been to?History of Vocaloid panel and Guess those Tits.>>What could have been better?Nothing for the Vocaloid panel, the panelist covered all his bases. Guess those Tits had questions with massive difficulty spikes only the most coomer of coomers would know.>>What was the worst?Anything western and cartoon related. This one "What OP is that?" panel.>>What made it bad? They have their own cons they can fuck off back to there. OP panel was mostly all fujo and yumejoshi slop only the biggest degenerate females would know. Very dishonest panel.
>>10937394Themed bingo actually sounds fun and cozy af
Why do small cons even do panels outside the guests?>walk into fan panel>barely 5 people in the audience >run by a lone beard showing everyone PowerPoints >anything related to creative writing is just the host regurgitating basic bitch storytelling advice
>>10937557>Anything western and cartoon relatedWestern stuff in general is way less relevant at cons now than it was a decade ago. It's probably because western cartoons are a dying medium and zoomers/gen alpha think "cartoon" carries an aura of being for babies while watching anime is fine.
>>10937843Watching anime slowly go from a subset of "western" cons to the overwhelming majority has been immensely satisying
>>10937557>They have their own cons they can fuck off back to there.I mean, this doesn't really matter to me. If I see a dude dressed as solid snake at an anime con I don't care. The shit that makes ME mad is when people treat cons as a party haven to get drugged and do coke and shit at. I got approached at several parties outside for "plugs" for molly and coke and shit.Bro, i'm a meek fucking nerd who's at these to find fellow nerds. I ain't trying to fuel your stupid ass normie addiction fuck off out of my circle if your only here to do drugs and get high.
>>10937835Because some of them barely even have guests and it's something that isn't just the dealers room or the bar.
>>10937354Just totally stole this idea and submitted it for a local con. I'm hoping it gets approved because this is an absolutely great idea.
>Wanted a Monogatari segment for my panel>Quickly realize it needs a dedicated panel unto itself>Going through one episode with a fine-tooth comb takes 3 hours>Doing this too with the novels and manga>And there's the in-character commentary tracksthat feeling when that face
>>10938082and there will STILL be a fat, sweaty nerd who somehow knows more than you.
>>10937939Which con?
Pro-tip: If your panel idea is some generic Jeopardy / Kahoot / Bingo / Trivia game, there are already a dozen other people who had the same idea. Best course is to either put some twist on it or go back to the drawing board (preferably more than 3 minutes this time)
Are there any lolcows in the anime world worth doing a panel on? And I don't mean like, "oh look at Miyazaki and Anno being grumpy old men," I mean actual clowns embarrassing themselves frequently.
sakuracon had some particularly epic panels. there was one about fascist themes in AoT where the host talked about how eren sounds like aryan.but the one i'll never forget was about anime characters with DID. it was an hourlong do not laugh challenge where an obese themlet explained how yugi and yami from yugioh are a system.>"Yugi is like whaaat because he’s gone his whole life thinking he was a singlet… JUST LIKE IT ALWAYS GOES">multiple people in the audience start nodding and snappingif you do attend panels like these just please be discreet. keep a straight face, smile at the bad jokes and scowl when they talk about oppression. if they find out people are attending to laugh at them they might not host any more of these.
>>10939271>Sakuracon>"Persona 5: Jung at Heart" derails on why, as a "gay" "man" (straight woman) anima / animus are invalid conceptsSasuga on one hand, but it's all so tiresome on the other
>>10938100Or a small zoomette, as I mentioned this being an upcoming panel in my roster. Immediately darted up and asked to cohost, dressed as Nadeko
>>10937348any panel about diversity or the LGBT community is an automatic skip >>10937843the only western cartoons zoomers care about are online original stuff like Hazbin Hotel and Digital Circus
>What do you like to see1. A passionate fan who has at least a little bit of stage presence and just wants to share the love of the thing they're talking about with others. Sort of lecture-esque while being entertaining. Most recent I can think of was a Visual Novel panel at this year's Acen. Both presenters were engaged with the audience while also talking a lot on some of their favorites, which were a little deeper than surface level. Were fun to listen to.2. Heavily-involved audience participation. This can go one of two ways, either really great, or really terrible. More often than not, it's the latter, but an example of a lazy panel that ended up being fun was a panel with the basis of 'How would you change it?' where the host invited someone from the audience up to rag on an anime or manga's ending and did well with prodding the audience member into giving a mini-passion speech on the media piece. Everyone in the crowd was pumped, lots of people wanting to talk, and it lead to people grouping up after the panel to talk about anime/manga.>What do you find boringAnything with 'Characters from x do y!', most clip-spam panels, and anyone who just reads directly from their slides without adding anything to them.>What was the best panel you've ever been to?Weirdly enough, it was an industry panel, but it was an absolutly insane lineup of VA's who had history in cartoons for decades. The panel was reading the script from an episode of a certain catroon. They all took characters and while reading the lines, they had to swap into a different character from their history as a VA to read the lines as when the host hit a small gong. It was wild just how many veterans were on the stage flexing characters all the way back to the early 90's to read these lines. I haven't seen something as ambitious or as stacked as that panel in 2012, and I go to 4-5 cons a year and drop into a ton of panels.
>>10941528My favorite fan-driven panel was a woman who had her bachelors in theology talk in extreme length about every little detail of the angels in Eva and their relation/ties to the angel they were named after in the bible. Very informative, super fun and engaging, had a lot of energy. She was great.>Worst panelThere's been a lot of mediocre, but the worst by far was one of those 'con horror stories' panels. A girl in her early 20's got up to tell a story and it turned into the ultimate trauma dump. She wouldn't let go of the mic, and the hosts were too passive and meek to stop her, so it turned from con story to this stupid woman bitching about her like for 30 minutes, one story after another. I needed to know just how long she'd go, so I stayed for the whole thing and she took up 45 minutes total of an hour and a half panel.
not an anime con. but i remember a panel that was ending where a guy was just reading wikipedia definitions of different mythical creatures/cryptidsOne interesting panel i attended was this industry person wanting to preview new toy releases but forgot the powerpoint presentation and couldnt even retrieve from the cloud due to shitty con internetshe had to just describe the new products by words only and had a decently long q n a
>>10937886western comic cons still have a larger attendance on average lol
There used to be these mock trials done by a bunch of phoenix wright cosplayers at a local con I go to, each year they did a case involving a different show. The motive was usually some lazy variation of "I killed my friend because I was jealous" but they were still pretty fun
>>10941548And yet it's easy for anime people to be the overwhelming majority of cosplay because capeshitters don't care enough to even try. Also, not a flex but nice try
>>10941554niggas think putting on a demon slayer haori is “cosplay”I dont know why you are bringing up cosplay numbers in a topic about panels
>>10941574Oh, no reason at all. >>10937843 But also>I dont know why you are bringing up cosplay numbers in a topic about panelsI can easily flip this right back at you "I don't know why you're bringing up western con numbers in a thread about panels." But also also Demon Slayer cosplay is almost dead in the water (as it deserves to be)
