Usually there's a thread by now. Holy moly is this con dead. The vendor hall is smaller than ever, they've reduced the amount of room they use at the convention center, and the game room now uses what used to be panel halls. What the fuck happened? Was the move to Iowa really the nail in the coffin? RIPFor any non crazies, I'm down to do a meet up. Did one at momocon this year and was pleasantly surprised.
I'll be going to Anime Nebraskon if Boosette will be there. But in all seriousness, why is this con in Iowa and not in Nebraska?
>>10939431It's been in Iowa for a few years now, an experience that was always worse for everyone involved, but this year feels especially bad. The game room is like, really bad. Cramped so you can't watch other people play or wait your turn. Rest of the con feels straight up empty. Panels are pretty standard, which is not a good thing when there's literally nothing else going on. Oof. I think if they don't move back to a hotel venue next year, it's doomed.
First time going to this con and the venue is weird, feels very cramped.Got here late too, is the dance/rave worth checking out?
>>10939431too expensive to get a venue in omaha/lincoln and i doubt anyone wants to travel to any smaller city
I feel like the convention in Missouri might have taken some thunder from Nebraskon.
>>10939433enough of the people running it have always wanted it to be a huge 'proper' con and didn't accept that the people actually buying badges just wanted to get drunk in cosplay. the smart ones knew the forced move from the old venue to somewhere that people couldn't party would kill it but they got outvoted
Glad to know other people feel the same way and I wasn't experiencing psychosis. It all just felt dark and deeply sad. Also holy fuck can we talk about the MC of the cosplay contest and burlesque show. The audience's dead silence in response to her increasing desperation to be entertaining was nothing short of harrowing. Still better than CJ Rapist but jesus who the fuck let her go up there?
>>10939759oh my god she was so fucking annoyingi understand she's killing time but every bit just comes off as cringe
I'm biased because I was there with one of the cosplay guests, but we had an amazing time. There were other cons this weekend which definitely caused some unfortunate overlap but the con and staff volunteers treated us great, gave us free food, and let us attend dead dog. The panels we ran went really well and...Well I'll readily admit there were a ton of furfags, autistic people, and the usual brands of mentally ill. Perhaps it's a bit heavier here because of location and the like but again, we were treated very well and enjoyed ourselves.Anons in this thread mentioning the game room and stuff, I can safely say that staff are well aware and going to approach things better next year. Also yeah Jesus Christ, the MC for the cosplay contest was godawful and the Night Wing and Pink Guy performances were cringeworthy. The actual content was fine but holy shit there was no reason to draw things out and it really felt like they didn't rehearse at all.I don't know if there's anything else to talk about. I wanted to attend cosplay chess and Mario Party because they looked fucking awesome but got outvoted by my friends. With any luck they start to lean on experience some staff members have had with Anime Detour and have dedicated party rooms in the adjoining hotel.I hope some of you gulls are there next year, my friend is already reinvited and I'll be bringing some proper cosplay to photograph at those cornfields next door.
artist alley felt even more dead than last year, at least there was some people selling original merch
