is it possible to bring back otakuism to the aussie anime community?
>>10945590i wish we had more big cons. theyre so fucking expensive toogoing to avcon and pax this year and thats probably it, hoping to pick up some lolita stuff. thinking of handmaking a cosplay this year and entering a comp, never done that before
>>10945617Yeah we definitely need an industry level convention similar to ax smash and animaga are good but are nothing like a proper industry event, almost everything here is little pop up artist alleys which would be good if we had a doujinshi scene but we don’t even so it’s just a circle jerk of genshin impact stickers. I feel the smaller cons should be more themed. I’m looking forward to azurite since it actually has a niche behind it rather than being an amalgamation of western fandom culture
>>10945622man id love to have a doujinshi scene here, but yeah its all artist alleys with mostly mid art from the ones ive been to. its almost always genshin shit or other gacha games, or whatevers popular at that moment. would love to see some more niche stuffat avcon the only good stalls is those lolita stalls and the retro gaming ones, the figures are now super overpriced and all the other merch is shitnever even heard of azurite, never seen a con like that here. seems cool, might see if i can travel for it next time its on
>>10945634I’ve been working on forming some sort of doujinshi scene here but honestly there’s very little interest. Currently this community is against anything relating to otaku culture but I hope one day people can be more open towards it.I’ve never been to av con but I’ve heard good about it. maybe I’ll try table there this year. Anime stores in general are pretty shit (at least the ones in Melbourne) I’d love for us to have some sort of book off equivalent which I think Sydney has something similar but I’ve never been so I’m not too sure
>>10945637do you make and sell doujin yourself? im definitely interested in supporting any doujin scene here since i cant draw for shit myself. ive imported a few japanese doujinshi over the years so english stuff would be greatavcon is a really decent convention, guests and cosplays are ok, they have a good amount of variety with the stuff there. little section for touhou, fighting games, shit like that. its the only con ive gone to religiously since i started getting money. the lolita stuff is really nice too, always some sort of handmade stalldown here in adelaide theres only shintokyo afaik which is pretty decent, ok selection of manga and merch, games too, and decent prices. and they got those things, i forgot what theyre called but the frame arms girls mecha figs which are cool. im surprised melbourne doesnt have better considering they have a bigger scene there with all their cons and comms and shit. you'd think thered be a bigger demand for good anime stores
>>10945650yeah I’ve made some but have been way too anxious to sell them in conventions since I’ve already received a lot of harassment from the local community because of my art and don’t want to put a larger target on my back. trying to get out of my comfort zone a bit this year with it hopefully it doesn’t end bad.i will def try go to avcon just for the touhou section, I’ve never seen handmade lolita in person so that sounds really cool! I like frame arms I worked at one of the melb hobby stores and we would stock them sometimes but there was a low demand, critical hit is starting to get in some Japanese manga but it’s limited to what the workers know if they don’t know about a series then they most likely won’t import anything related to it unless it’s a new release prize figure or good smile product
>>10945590>is it possible to bring back otakuism to the aussie anime community? It was never here.
>>10945699There was definitely some level of it in the past even if it was just a small amount. Now days if you try have a proper discussion about anything anime related people get upset and god forbid you mention lolicon
