This has been my experience 9/10 times I attempt to "support local business": massively overpaying for mediocre products. There are a handful of local places I don't mind paying extra to support because they actually have superior products but they're the exceptions.

>Pajeets in the burns of Hongcouver keep opening pizzerias.
>Uniformly mediocre with identical menus
>Extremely cutthroat competition, will literally open across the street from an existing one and commit MAD

>3 large three toppings for 34 dollars(25 USD) is not uncommon deal
>One place lasted six months and sold large three toppings for 10 bucks

Im not saying its good 'za, but neither are the chains. I got a lot of mileage out of them when I was a poor bachelor.

When I lived in Hartford, I tried some local places and most of them weren't very good. The one exception was the Frank Pepe's over in West Hartford.

There were some halal pizza places that used all-beef toppings. Most of them sucked shit (you really can't do sausage or pepperoni with beef) but there was one place that did a great job and made some better calzones than what I'd had at "Italian" places.

They still used beef pepperoni for their pizza but somehow it wasn't as bad as other places. My standard order was extra cheese, pepperoni, and olives.

You just reminded me of an experience I had at a place up in *New* Hartford. I was doing some antique shopping and I stopped in. Ordered a medium pie... and they said "we're out of medium." I was really confused and got a large instead. It was disgusting.

We have a local pizza place called Pizza Wagon. Their Brooklyn-style pies are REALLY good. We get them pretty often (meaning like six or eight times a year, which is more than we get any other kind of pizza). I'm happy to buy local in this case.

If they gave a shit about keeping costs low mom and pop shops were primed to out perform chains.
Pizza place I go-to I get a large 14" pizza with four toppings and 20 wings for 37 dollars.
Dominos that would be close to 50.
Chains don't have the luxury to suddenly shift their supply chains or ingredients. Mom and pop places can cut out middle men, change up their cheese supplier, hunt for deals on veggies, cut down their menu, etc.
>>
>>20472914
There's always one Portnoy guy that has to ruin the thread....

I usually get pizza from my local one because its good (I've had better but its far from mediocre) and its only 500 meters from where I live.
>>
>>20471142
Papa John's is shit
Pizza hut is shit
Domino's is shit
All large chain pizza is shit and goyslop/plebfeed
So is most non chain pizza

The moral of the story is - good pizza is hard to find. When you find a good pizza place, make sure you keep giving it business so it stays around. Right now I only get pizza from two places near me. One is a small local chain and the other is an Italian restaurant.
>>

What kind of hellhole do you guys live in where local restaurants suck? Where I'm at in texas the local places are mostly great. Only a few places around here are bland and overpriced but that's why you always look at pictures of their food before going.

Most pizza (chain or local) is awful these days. When you have something with only a few ingredients, like pizza, and then cheap out on the quality of those ingredients; the quality of the dish can nosedive. It's why I usually only eat homemade pizza now.
Check out this microblistering on one of my latest pies:

Faggots, all of you for buying pizza of all things.
I can have a pizza in the oven 15 minutes from walking in the door. Prepping batches of dough to save in your fridge is not hard at all.

The key to good pizza crust is high gluten flour and a pizza stone. Everything after that helps to be mindful of but that's the big one. It's not something you have to be super strict about.
Also I like to put in a little garlic and rosemary in my dough because I'm just a rebel like that.

It's never been easier to have your own pizza oven at home now though. Thanks to ooni, there are half a dozen options for $200-300 pizza ovens out there. No longer does the pleb have to make a brick oven outside. The pleb can now make authentic perfect pies right at home, with whatever shit they want as toppings. They even sell pizza dough kits now, and jarred/canned pizza sauce is a thing.
