my wife is vegan and I have tasted a lot of vegan 'alternative' foods as a result. some are genuinely very close to the real deal, particularly vegan 'meats'. vegan cheese, however, is unmitigatedly shit.even vegans will admit to this. they say that new vegans should just not eat any 'cheese' for about 2 years from when they last had real cheese, in the hope that their palates will have forgotten the actual taste of cheese. it's vile muck. for non-vegans it's practically assault. there is no good vegan cheese.

Idk but a local supermarket was selling vegan microwave mac and cheese for a dollar per tray yesterday BOGO. They have strange aftertaste, likely from the addition of garlic and onion powders which I don't use, but they're surprisingly not shit. Strong Roots brand, if anyone is interested. I'm not even vegan so if I'm telling you it's pretty good, it's pretty good. Don't expect it to be 1:1 with either homemade or non-vegan macaroni and cheese, though.What surprises me most is that it's not saltier than a motherfucker. Vegan cheese stuff tends to be ungodly salty
