$150ish for everything, ranging from $35-$15.
>>
>>20942311
Some of those are pretty good but you overpaid for all of them by quite a lot.

***$135ish without picrel, I forgot I got another one of these and didn't include it in OP
>>20942314
the dolcetto at $35 might be a bit steep but it's hard to find good italian shit where I live. might open the malbec or sauv blanc later tonight, each were under $15.
>>
>>20942311
You enjoy italian wines? I've not had good luck with them, always go back to France. Maybe I'm just conditioned to like what I'm used to.
>>
Hi Stewart! How is dog?
>>
>>20942332
growing up my house almost exclusively drank italian wines so i'm partial to it. I'm the opposite as you, I whiffed on sooo many awfully disappointing vin rouge this summer :( french whites and bubbles have been fabulous, some of my favorites for sure.
>>
>>20942311
>Vietti
Even when you're drinking barbera roero arneis is living in your head.
>>
>>20942420
You're parents were Italian alcoholics who gave you wine as a kid? Thats fucked up bro
>>
>>20942463
nta but normal people let their teenagers have a small glass of wine at holiday dinners, you're probably some kind of southern evangelical freak who never saw alcohol until you were 21 and turned into a raging violent drunk and think everyone is like you
>>
>>20942463
>bro your parents let you have WINE? as a KID?
I know you've never wanted to, but were you even allowed to go outside?
>>
>>20942470
No, child, I'm not. No, child, I did. No, child, I did not. And, no child, I don't.
>>
>>20942541
I'm sorry your parents made you like this. I'm sure you are too

just opened the 2o22 Doña Paula Malbec. it's acceptable but not as good as picrel which I got a week or two ago from the same store for a very similar price. would highly recommend picrel, outstanding QPR and just a great expression, great quality.
>>
>>20942546
There is nothing wrong with me, child. I am sorry for nothing except your stupidity.
>>
>>20942564
I feel the same way about argie malbec as I do about aussie wine. too many times someone has said "but this isn't like the other malbecs" and too many times it wasn't good

Admittedly I haven't done my deep dive into aussie wine yet. I'm finding the entry level malbec coming out of Uco Valley (along with some other high altitude vineyards around Mendoza) are pretty consistent in style and flavor profile with some variation in quality. I'm coming to the realization that argentina simply produces too much malbec to assume the wine will be consistent in any way as you move from one region to the next -- except maybe in color--i've tried enough slamdunk entry level malbec from Uco Valley to feel confident spending $40-$50ish on a nicer midlevel malbec from the same region. I don't love picrel but at $15 I dont feel like i'm getting ripped off and i'd buy this again before trusting some random california or french red asking for the same price.

but even now i'm noticing this Doña Paula is one of the lightest in color and least opaque Malbec i've come across. you can just barely make out the shape of the wine capsule laying on the ground underneath the glass.
>>
>>20942463
Not that anon, but I always had a small glass of wine with dinner if my parents were having wine with the meal.

Is that not a normal thing?
>>
>>20942634
You're a multimillionaire with generational wealth and you're not even 30. Why are you complaining about the prices of poor people wine?

2023 deep down sauvignon blanc is lights out delicious, very highly recommended under $25.

do you know that (s)correggia means "fart" in italian
>>
>>20942311
>Vietti and Giacosa apparently good producers
>have seen that Roero Arneis around, probably good - Arneis is underrated anyway
>Central Otago Pinot can be good, shit label though
>Argentine Malbec usually decent for the price but not too interesting, seems to be medal fodder but at least it's 'high altitude'
>never seen this Marlborough SB before but usually find them too vulgar
Overall I'd say 7.5/10. Would've given higher marks for more interesting wines.
>>
>>20942463
flyover scum detected
>>
>>20942311
If the Marlborough doesn't have juicy stonefruit on the palate then don't bother with it again, it's the only reason to drink it

>>20943053
>at least it's 'high altitude'
Could be worse; could be "high gravity"
>>
>>20943190
>Could be worse; could be "high gravity"
lmao, have you actually ever seen that on a wine?
>>
>>20943053
Does *anyone* make good SB (or CB for that matter) outside of france? Maybe I just have dunning kruger but it seems to me white wines (other than maybe chardonnay) are a lot more sensitive to terroir than red. My boomer relatives fucking love new zealand sauvignon blanc and I just cannot wrap my mind around why. I mean the more expensive stuff is not disgusting but every time I have it I'm like fuck me this was $45?
>>
>>20942311

There's some great unoaked SB coming out of central coast cali and lodi but they're not cheap and at that price you can just get a really nice sancerre that won't disappoint.
>>
>>20943289
when did lodi become respectable anyway? it seems like they went straight from "ew yuck lodi?" to "ooooh lodi!"

central coast never had that did they? or am I just showing how provincial I am
>>
>>20943364
no you're not wrong, there's lots of new AVA classifications and ongoing rule changes going on in these subregions where producers are trying to distinguish themselves. kind of like how languedoc is trying to get a bunch of new AOCs to recognize their quality in south france. just check the back label and if a lodi or santa barbara producer is going out of their way to get an AVA certification that can sometimes be the best indicator of quality.

sure if I lived in piedmont I wouldn't have to pay more than $12 to find a nice dolcetto, but I don't. and i'm not paying to get drunk, i'm paying to share a nice bottle with someone and pair it with my weekend roast chicken.

Any Kindzmarauli enjoyers here? Not a big fan of red wine but this one is nice and unique. Makes for a good gift wine since it's rarely known.

I put a couple of these in the wine rack this week.

It's probably been 10-15 years since I last had this, but it was a good memory, so I picked up a couple of bottles.
>>
>>20944276
Amarone is delicious, definitely one of the safer premium wines to splurge on.
>>
>>20944276
Also grabbed a couple of types of Orin Swift. Ive not tried it before but it looked interesting. This one and a Pinot Noir.

They had more that I was tempted to buy, but I dropped £1200+ on whisky last month so I decided to try and show some restraint.
>>

Imagine being so rich that you can casually drop thousands on wine and liquor. What do you do for work?
>>
>>20944336
I work in the energy industry as an analyst, my salary is around £65k. My wife earns much more as an orthodontist, about £120k before expenses. We have relatively low monthly expenses, and I take full control of all the finances, so she has no idea that I spend that kind of money.
>>
>>20944359
you must have a really low cost of living because I can't imagine just casually buying such expensive alcohol for regular daily drinking even at 185k bongbux, did your parents buy you a house in cash or something?

picked up this 2020 Foxen Chenin Blanc for $30 earlier today, i'll let you know how it is.
>>
How long can wine last after it’s opened? I’ll recork it but I won’t put it in a fridge. Will it last 7 days?
>>
>>20944731
in my experience, a good red can still be drinkable after a week but the overwhelming majority of reds will lose a lot of its subtlety on the nose and palate after just a day or two and after a few days they can be completely oxidized.
>>
>>20943263
I've had good Chenin Blanc from South Africa and Australia. Sauvignon Blanc from Australia can also be good but the best ones I've tried were blended with Semillon a la Bordelaise.
