My gf and I are having a debate (inspired by https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/crmz42pjpnjo), could a single person consumer 22 tons of cheese in their lifetime? over 80 years it clocks in at a little under 1.5lbs of cheese a day, which I think is probably doable but my gf thinks it would have too many negative effects. Irish people apparently ate like 5-10lbs of potatoes a day during the heyday of monoculture there, so I can't imagine 1.5lbs of cheese a day being too much for a person even if it is a lot more calorically dense.

I'd love to see where your concrete Christmas trees come from. With my penis

Just going off vibes it feels like you're both right. You could probably eat that much cheese but you would become obese very quickly, and you might even start to develop lactose intolerance. Cheese is more about quality over quantity in my humble opinion.
>>
>>20964070
Your humble opinion isn't worth gargling on my balls. Thats for your mouth

Sorry, I don't really get what you're trying to say? OP asked an open question so I gave my honest answer to the best of my ability. No need to be rude.
>>
>>20964070
yeah I guess you would definitely get fat eating that much cheese

It’s a lot of calories, about 2900 for 1.5lbs based on Tillamook Medium Cheddar.
>>
>>20964054
I believe mongols are the ones to check for this, apparently cheese is a large part of their daily diet. I’d say they would represent the realistic upper limit.
>>
>>20964275
Of course their cheese is closer to yogurt than cheddar or anything like that.
>>
>>20964123
Ah not if you eat ONLY the cheese
>>
>>20964054
i think 1lb a day is easily possible

Studies of pregnant women and ultra-endurance athletes suggest humans can digest about 2.5 times their resting energy expenditure, which (for an average person) is about 5000 kcal, or nearly 3 lbs of cheese. Of course, you could swallow more if you wanted to.

Quark is cheese. Eat a cup and a half each morning and you've got 12 oz just for breakfast.
Eat another 8 oz of cottage cheese with lunch.
Include 4 oz of other cheeses in snacks and dinner.
>>
>>20964070
lactose intolerance is genetic (or due to injury), you don't just 'start getting it' from eating food
>>
>>20964054
you'd be ingesting 1.5-3 times the max rec of calcium and a ton of phosphorous too. Kidney injury potentially. Might be doable with a low calcium cheese.
>>
>>20965116
cottage cheese is a good idea to get some variety in there, and when you break it down like that I guess its not crazy. cup and a half of cheese and maybe a couple of eggs would be a hell of a breakfast every day

>>20965301
damn i didn't even consider too much calcium. i got so much milk propaganda as a kid it never crossed my mind that too much might be bad.
>>
>>20964054
You can probably do it but you would die from heart disease at some point. Love cheese but it's too much saturated fats

You can still have a low-level of "intolerance" that goes unnoticed until exposure to a large-enough dose of cheese, after which your body says "fuck-off" and goes haywire to the smallest amount of it. Allergies can be worsened by continuous or massive exposure. Not common, but it happens.
>>
>>20964054
depends on the cheeses. if you eat cottage cheese mainly, no reason why you couldn't eat half a kg daily and get rest of your calories and nutrients from other sources.

if you spend your whole calorie intake on 300-400g of fatty cheeses every day, you're going to get fucked
>>
>>20964054
I'll feed your gf 22 tons of my dick cheese

>Generally, food stays in the stomach between 40 minutes to two hours
>The maximum stomach volume in adults is between 2 and 4 litres, although volumes of up to 15 litres have been observed in extreme circumstances.
Lets be generous and say you can pass 4 liters every 2 hours into the bowels. That makes 48 liters of cheese a day.
Cheese weighs about 1.04kg per liter.
We'll pretend that's a rounding error.
So you only need to spend like 15 months eating cheese to hit your target.
If you nap in between your 12 daily gorging sessions. We barely have to add any time to the total.
>>
>>20966560
Side note. Fluids should be given intravenously with added nutrients. A full time colonoscopy bag attendant is probably a good idea too. As is a catheter.
>>
>>20966560
somehow i don't think it would be possible to consume 48kg of cheese in a day
>>
>>20966506

>>20964054
Unless you're eating fat free cheese (BLASPHEMY), the saturated fat content would probably be about 110-130g+ per day, which is 4x the daily reccomended limit of 30g, so you'd probably die before consuming the 22 tons.
If you ate cheese daily from the age of 10 to 80 or 90 and ate 180g of something like feta (which is relatively lower ratio of sat fat to grams compared to mozerella and cheddar), clocking in at 30g saturated fat, you could eat probably 5-6 tons in a life time, but even at 30g every single day for years on end, there may still be potential health negatives, so you may not live that length and end up only consuming maybe 3-4 tons.

The other option would be to consume as much cheese as possible daily and race the clock of death, which I still don't think you'd hit 22 tons before dying.
>>
I think I eat about 150 grams of this per day, I buy about a kilo per week. 1.5 lb is an insane amount but you could try. You might die though

Potatoes have gut beneficial resistant starch and fiber, and exclusively water soluble C vitamin, so that's not a good comparison at all.

>ate 180g of something like feta (which is relatively lower ratio of sat fat to grams compared to mozerella and cheddar)
Feta has a shitton of salt in it though, your blood vessels would rupture before you hit the 22 ton mark.

since this is the cheese thread I'm just going to register my disdain in this fucking cheese. it is absolutely foul and smells and tastes like 5th day sweaty feet. fuck I spent a lot of money on this and I hate it. going right back to parmigiano reggiano. BLECH I says BLECH

I think if this thread has taught me anything its that 22 tons of cheese is probably not realistic for one person to consume, meaning the criminal in the article wasn't just a fatso looking to secure their supply

1.5 pounds of cheese is about 2400 calories a day so if you're not doing pretty significant labor you'll get fat
But I think a 6' sweat tradie or something would be fine.

Eating a block of cheese while walking down the street on a public throughfare should be embraced as beautiful and powerful, not looked at as shameful gluttony. Help the world elevate their collective consciousness from patriarchal decency standards by supporting excessive cheese consumption in all venues of public discourse!
>sending a package - 1 lb block of cheddar in hand
>riding the metro to work - snack on a wedge of roaquefort
>waking down the street - cheese wheel on head you're consuming with a specialized cheese spoon

Anon, please start the cheese only revolution and help people get out of their prejudicial stigmas regarding public cheese consumption.

they actually do this in france

I'm still waiting on pics from OP with novel ways him and the future ex wife are consuming cheese, or at least photos of the cheese he bought.

It's like that Simpson's episode where Homer eats an entire Costco sleeve of kraft singles.

Yeah. Technically an allergy is not the same as intollerance, but an allergy can get worse (or start happening at all) with continuous large dose exposure to the alergen. And symptomatically it can be pretty simmilar. You feel like crap when you eat milk. Just in one case, you lack the enzime to digest it, and in another your immune system suddenly decides that milk is the enemy. That's life.
>>
>>20971372
I didn't think you could be allergic to milk, that must suck (unless there's something they can take to counteract it I guess)
>>
>>20969712
I have a hard time imagining this, the metro in Paris is so crowded at rush hour you can barely move your arms
>>
>>20971372
ok I see the issue. you are misunderstanding what lactose intolerance is because of the name.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Food_intolerance#Definitions

Intolerances like lactose or sucrose (csid) are scientifically defined genetic disorders meaning you produce zero or few of the enzymes necessary to digest the nutrient. They are not similar to colloquial food intolerance where you have a normal genome but for whatever environmental or genetically indirect reason you experience inflammation, absorption etc.

>>20965291
>you don't just 'start getting it' from eating food
you do, if its an 'american' food

>>
>>20965291
I drank milk for 30 years. Sometimes had two or three yogurts a day. Now it gives me massive bloat and I feel like shit (intolerance).
>>
>>20974341
dairy products != lactose. lactose is a sugar in dairy which in the absence of the lactase enzyme is diagnosed as lactose intolerance.
>>
>>20964054
First of all, it sounds dumb to argue what is probably ficticious statistics to begin with. Most stats are made up on the spot.

I couldn't eat a 16oz block of cheddar daily, let alone another .5lbs more, and I am sure no one else can do it either.
It isn't about negative health effects though. It is just too boring. Only the lactose intolerant would avoid cheese in the first place. The consumers would need to be in their 50s or 60s or older to start showing what inflammation and fat was doing to their cardiovascular system, and that is as much as from genes and exercise as from diet.
>>
>>20964054
You're not likely to die of casein poisoning... a lot of it would depend on the cheese - how much diacetyl, what kind of lactones, cumulative effects.... half a pound of cheese at every meal is doable. I don't think this would kill you. 1.5lbs at a time, every day might.
>>
How the fuck do you even fence 22 tons of artisanal cheese?

Holy fuck I never knew cheese did this to you until I went on a carnivore diet. One day I had to do a lot of driving, so I just had a bag of cheese curds and a few pepperettes with me in the car. In the next day or two it came out like a brick. Now I know how women feel like when they give birth.
