>he doesn't own an airfryer
literally one of the greatest cooking gadgets of all time and some of you are too snobby to understand how useful a miniature convection oven that heats up extremely quickly is.
>>
Air Friers are My Food Bag for people who can't even use a pan.
>>
>>20969986
What is all the hubbub about "air fryers".

I see memes about them all the time but I don't quite get what they are. What makes them different from a regular oven?
>>
>>20969986
Back in my day we used to cook our food in a fish tank using a hair strengthener, we put the food raw inside a vacuum sealed pan and then we still had to get the pan dirty to give it colour, reverse searing we called it
The whole process would take hours and so much space in your countertop you couldn't help but resent it
>>
I only use mine to make frozen fried food and reheat pizza. The one time I tried to do a steak in it it turned out terribly.
>>
>>20969996
How did you prepare the steak before cooking? Brine? Dry brine?
>>
>>20969998
Neither, my issue was it failed to create any crust cranked up to the maximum and left in there for 20 minutes.
>>
>>20970010
next time, dry brine and add a mayonnaise coating. heat alone is not enough.
>>
I do have an air fryer, just havent really used the actual air frying functions, always just used it like a small oven in bake mode
>>
>>20969986
kek she looks like a fun gal
>>
>>20970022
think I'd rather just slap the thing in a pan m8
>>
>>20970027
lol same, I got gifted an air fryer / toaster oven hybrid a few months ago and have used the air fry function like, twice to make some spring rolls. I use the bake/toast/broil functions all the time. idk it's not that I think there's anything wrong with air frying I guess, I'm just more accustomed to the other settings.
>>
>>20969993
I'd love a picture my man
Just seems so ahead of the time
>>
>>20970076
Go on...
>>
>>20969992
it's just a small convection oven with a tray. it's just for convenience basically.
technology connections made a video about them the other day, apparently there's some upsides and downsides to them compared to toaster ovens and regular ovens
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6h9JhW-m35o
it's not as good as his regular videos. "no effort november" is a fucking annoying gimmick
>>

>can't afford a real, good convection oven
on top, air fryers are for goyslop only anyway

there literally not a single dish (that is not ultra processed crap) which is best prepared in an air fryer

I rather spend my money on a kitchen centrifuge or other ultra specialized niche equipment
>>
My microwave already has convection, and it’s over 15 years old.

Just buy a better microwave instead of another gadget that takes up counter space.
>>
>>20969992
Toaster oven for zoomers.
>>
>>20969992
They're a pricier version of the old EZ-Bake oven that boomers played with as children. Zoomers discovered them and went wild with excitement thinking they'd invented them. Same thing with avocado toast, which dates back to the 1960's.
>>
>>20969992
As someone who usually enjoys cooking, they're a great tool for when you can't really be asked to do much for substenance but would still like a tasty meal. Just throw your frozen whatever in the basket, one spray of oil, push button, receive hot comfort food.
This is the typical use case for single people.
But even when doing actual cooking it just works as an additional cooking surface. Say you need to defrost & cook something fast while your oven and cooking plates are busy. Again it's one push of a button and forget until you here the beep.

Enjoy your young age, because with the microplastics infusion received you are going to have a lasting time of middle-age sterility depression.
>>
>>20969986
Air fryers suck ass, I left mine in the lobby of my office for some other person to have.

>Pain to clean
>Food needs to flipped during cooking
>Made out of plastic

Just get a small counter top electric oven, it's so much more versatile and less of pain in the ass to work with. And air fryers don't cook anything any faster.
>>
>>20971340
I have a large convection oven and a small air fryer. The air fryer cooks home fries twice as fast and they come out better. The air fryer also cooker chicken about 50% faster, and it also comes out better, but you have to be precise with the timing.
>>
>>20969992
People don't know their ovens convection setting is the same thing, and the additional convenience makes people think it's incredible (fewer dishes, no need for oil, sometimes no need to even thaw stuff, you can do it in an oven too but not as effectively because of the bigger space)
>>
>>20971321

the great upsell for air fryers for me is that oil is not required
>>
can i bake loafs of bread in it
if i can't then i dont need it
>>
>>20971423
Depends on the size and form factor. Yes, some designs have a compartment large enough to bake a small loaf or a few rolls/biscuits.

Plastic, the air fryer is covered in plastic and what's that smell when it's cooking, burning plastic. Enjoy the youth while you can, clearly the plastic reached your brain, but it's far from your penis yet.

Just do your research. I still use mine sometimes for the standard things like reheating pizza or cooking frozen fries because it's faster and more convenient than my old-ass non-convection oven. My model also has a high-temp "grill" mode which is kinda nice.....

But it has the teflon coating, which I hate not only because of the health issues, but because it's impossible to properly clean. I'm thinking of trashing it for a model with a glass chamber, or maybe a more traditional convection toaster oven with metal grates.
>>
>>20969986
sex with this slop maker, I bet she makes sloppa, just like her mom taught her to make.
>>
i recently bought a potato ricer and i feel the same way as that chick now.
>>
>>20969992
The key difference is that most convection ovens recirculate the same air trapping the moisture in
Air fryers constantly draw in new air and results in a drier end product
>>
>>20971423
>>20971428
>>20971457
Me again, just adding, if you try baking in one, do keep an eye on the rise, because an expanding loaf could interfere with the airflow, come in contact with hot surfaces and start burning, etc. For me baking in the air fryer was more from necessity.
>>
>>20969986
I'm honestly not against the idea of getting one I just don't really get what the proper use case is

A friend and ex roommate of mine once burned down my fucking kitchen when trying to fry some chicken wings. It was voted upon that he wasn't allowed to fry things in oil anymore. But, I felt bad for him knowing it was an accident and he really loved fried chicken wings, so the next year for his birthday, I spent a couple hundred American Pesos on an air fryer for him. He really loved that thing, it's the best gift I ever gave anyone. I really liked when he'd use it since the entire house smelled like whatever he cooked in it for a couple hours.

I dont think I'd ever get one for myself though since I'm not a retard in the kitchen and can actually cook without setting things on fire. I already have a convection oven anyway.

I finally tried mine for the first time last night. I bought it last February because I kept hearing about them, but never found a real requirement for one. Then I made the mistake of buying those little spanakopitas at Costco because they're on sale until tomorrow, and the package only gave me the options of (1) using a regular oven, or (2) air fryer. Le heavy sigh.

It's actually pretty based. Twelve minutes of hairdryer noise and I have food. I don't even have to stand around and watch it or anything.

NTA but yes. That style door works well for refrigerators but for an oven, it sucks because there's a gap in the middle for heat to leak out. The superior laydown door similar to a normal oven is seen as a device for old people. Got to have something new and unique to get the younger demographic (and old people who want to be "with it") and it doesn't matter if the functionality sucks.
>>

>The term French door refers to a style of door that has two sections that pivot on hinges mounted on opposite sides of the door framing, opening and closing in the middle. During the 1500s, France was frequently at war with Italy, and French occupying forces and leaders found themselves inspired by the art and architecture they observed from the Italian Renaissance. Among the architectural innovations brought back to France from Italy was a style of double doors and windows that favored open spaces, light, and symmetry. The use of these double doors, by now known as French doors, spread to Great Britain in the 1600s and from there to the United States.
Probably should be called Italian doors.

western hipsters, richfags and retards jumped on the trend because a women's magazine was making shit up about how healthy they are.

I'm not super into frozen foods (like fries or nuggies) and I have limited countertop space.
Why should I consider an air fryer regardless? What can I make with it that justifies them taking up space?
>>
>>20979980
This makes me angry
>>
>>20982274
It's a single serving sized oven that doesn't need preheating and comes with a few extra cooking settings you will never use. It's very convenient for a single guy. The forced air convection is maybe marginally better than a normal oven's convection, making a small difference for shit like chicken wings.
>>
>>20982509
Honestly, the no preheating is the only part of that value proposition that sounds great to me, but not great enough to justify the countertop space. Thanks anon, I suppose I'll stick with my normal oven for now.
>>
"Air frying" is buzzword for "convection oven with a higher RPM".
Toaster ovens will do everything an air fryer does and more, and usually with less plastic. The only possible benefit "air fryers" have is faster or negligible pre-heat, and that's merely a result of the small capacity. A small toaster oven would be the same.
>>
>>20982274
if you already have a decent oven it is not worth the countertop space for sure. but you can do things that you can't do with a normal convection oven because the heat in an air fryer is a lot more intense. it's genuinely one of the best ways to cook chicken wings.
>>
>>20969992
Preheats quicker, cooks faster, uses less electricity, easier to clean. Homes could literally not have an oven at this point.
