>>20971089Post tofupornHere is Tahu Goreng Kecap(Indonesian fried tofu in sweet soy sauce)
>>20971236Here is Tahu Isi Ayam Suwir (Deep fried tofu stuffed with shredded chicken and vegetables)
>>20971228Firm tofu that wasn't drained well, so it still had the watery taste and doesn't absorb the flavours. Maybe you're lucky and skipped the years of people not knowing what to do with it.
so on the weekend I think I'm going to marinade my tofu in a mix of:>soy sauce>oyster sauce>minced garlic>siracha>kimchi juicetried the mix with prawns and it came out well, should b gud with tofu too
>>20971251Sambal Goreng Tempeh Pedas(Tempeh & veg stir-fried in a sweet & spicy sauce)
>>20971283Hnnng
>>20971251My favourite gorengan. : )Well, less the chicken. Never even seen tahi isi with chicken in it. Always just vegetables. I see it used in nasi bakar a lot, though. >>20971089I just slice or cube it and put it in and on things. I can't get tahu isi just right. : (Most recently used tofu in a soup. Pickled mustard greens soup cooked with chicken stock and ginger etc then tofu added at the end and topped with sauteed marinated pork belly at end.

how do I get into tofu, and what are the advantages over cheap meat like chicken thigh.
I recently bought a BCD Tofu House soondubu jjigae kit and made it, turned out pretty good.
>>20971818>what are the advantages over cheap meat like chicken thighNone
>>20971818as a tofu beginner I would simply fry it with panko and eggs and dip in soy sauce on the side
Why do Westerners eat only very firm tofu?East Asians eat mainly soft tofu.
>>20971944Stop listening in on my conversations. I was just talking about this five minutes ago
>>20971316Yeah I don't see any chicken in that photo. But it was from a recipe for tahu isi ayam, and it's also in the filename. Looks like tahu isi sayur to me. Both are tasty. Here is fried tofu stuffed with eggs - tahu isi telur. These are good for dippin'(All the best tofu dishes are non vegetarian)
>>20971474Oh how could we forget everyone's favourite tofu: inarisuzhi
>>20971818It's just an ingredient. Use either when you want to
.
>>20972959Hi op
Never had tofu in my lifeWhat does it taste like?
>>20974643Tofu.
>used to buy frozen tofu rolls from the chinese supermarket for like a buck fifty>nearly eight quid nowaaaaa
>>20971089It's good every now and then.I personally just broil/bake it
>>20974643its more of a texture than a taste
>>20971089Tofu nuggers: Marinate - I usually go for a bit of light and dark soy, vinegar, sugar, salt, miso, and scallion or garlic.Slice or cubeDredge in cornstarchFry til crispy. Serve with some kind of sauce.Mapo Tofu:- 2 tbsps oil of choice (peanut oil or lard are the right choices)- 4 fresh chilies, finely sliced- 4 dried chilies, crushed- 1 tbsp sichuan peppercorn, crushed or coarsely ground- 1 small / 1/2 large fist of garlic, crushed- about a 1.5" cube of ginger, grated- 1/2 lb ground/chopped lean pork- 1lb tofu (silken and firm are both good)- 2 tbsps spicy bean paste- 2 tsps cornstarch- 1/2 tsp sesame oil- 1 cup broth (pork ideally, chicken otherwise) - 1 tsp sugar- 1 tbsp (rice) vinegar- 1 scallion sliced>put 1 tbsps oil in a hot wok, add the peppers, ginger, garlic, and sichuan peppercorn. Fry til fragrant, and put in something heatproof til later>put remaining fresh oil and sugar in wok, quickly mix starch and vinegar in with pork. When sugar caramelizes, add pork and chop up while stirring til browned.>add spicy bean paste, stir in>add tofu, broth, and seasoned oil. Gently stir. Reduce heat to a simmer. Let it go for 10-15 mins.>add sesame oil and scallion/green onion>serve up with a little gai lan or sumthin.
I made tofu tikka masala recently>>20971306that's not tofu is it
>>20975635looks like eel to me
>>20975322You can also make Mapo Tofu with ground beef, chicken, or even make it vegan with shittake mushrooms. In case you forget how to be hungry, here's a photo of Mapo Tofu.Try it with rice, fried shallots and hot chilli oil. One of the best tofu recipes ever!
>>20975782Sure, you CAN make it with chicken, beef, or mushrooms... IF YOU'RE A PHILLISTINE!I jest. It's good with all of these things. I just prefer it with pork, and I'm fairly certain the average recipe does call for it.
>>20975799Pork is the OG. But there are many Buddhists in the Sichuan region, so vegetarian is also authentic. I've enjoyed it many times with Wood Ear Fungus too.(Pork AND fungus mapo tofu would probably be the best of all combination). With extra sichuan pepper for mala sensation. Try not to drool, sir
>>20975833If I didn't just murder a roast with taters, leeks, and chard, I'd probably be whipping up a batch.Tomorrow... maybe for breakfast... I don't think missusburgh wants mapo tofu for breakfast.
>>20975782If you order mapo tofu, or any dish really at an Asian restaurant, as "buddhist" they will make it vegan.
>>20971818i eat tofu for the texture, I love meat too but soft tofu with rice is incredible.
>>20976539the texture is what draws me to tofu the most, the dining hall at my college has tofu and chicken at the salad bar and I get both
I use soft tofu in my salads
Frying up twice frozen extra firm tofu like chicken katau and serving it with curry and rice is a fantastic idea.
>>20979978>twice frozen extra firm tofuDoes freezing it make it firmer? Tell me more about this recipe.
>>20980333No. It makes it more porous and, paradoxically, fibrous-y and gives it a much more meat-like texture. The trick Anon is using is usually done with medium firm tofu but you freeze and thaw twice then squeeze out as much excess liquid as possible. Now, you soak it in vegan chicken stock and you can much more easily approximate the taste and texture of a piece of fried chicken. It's a well-known technique. I'm not even vegan (just had a huge plate of fish and chips for dinner with the family and was then hit a sudden pang for steak after for some reason; I don't even like steak) and I know it.
>>20980364Why have I never heard of this before? Brb trying this out.
>>20975322>>20975782>>20975799>>20976337Mapo tofu is pretty fucking based. Even meatless, it's great stuff and a good introduction to tofu in general and Szechuan cooking. It's even better if you can make your own chili oil for it.
>>20971089A couple of hours ago, I ate a whole block of tofu that was supposed to have expired on August 28. It didn't smell bad. It wasn't discolored, It wasn't slimy. It was tasty.
I'm working on commercial tofu products, tofu nuggets specifically. They're marketed for vegans but uh... anyone can eat tofu.Basically press the tofu, bring it back up to weight with marinade, press excess marinade out, roll in spice breading, par fry. Goes out the door like that and is two minutes in the deep fryer to finish.
>>20975833I used to get tofu all the time over there just to avoid nasty Chinese butchery. Tofu is so cheap they don't fuck with it. I buy it in kilo cubes and at home use it mostly for hot pot and curry dishes. But last week I used it mixed with pork in fried spring rolls and it was great. No stupid cabbage.
>>20980649You just ate it...raw?
>>20981605Tofu can't be raw the same way bread can't be raw or toast can't be raw because in its raw form, it's another thing entirely. Raw toast is bread. Raw bread is dough. Raw tofu is soy milk.>>20981228>No stupid cabbage.Aww. I fucking love cabbage. My favourite fried rice is a tie between shrimp and salted cabbage or ham and tomato, both of which are weirdly uncommon in the West for some reason.
>>20971483They why are the people who eat the most soy (east asians) literally the weakest most feminine race that ever existed on this entire planet?
>>20983280Do you think feeding an east asian a diet of red meat and bread their whole life would somehow significantly change their physiology and make them large and masculine?
>>20971089What cup size do you guys have? Mine is DD.
>>20983284Yes. See meji restoration.
>>20983284In 1 generation? No, of course not. But east asians definitely are a good example of what happens to you as a race when you eat a shitty diet. The same pattern happens all over the world. In east asia, the people who've been eating rice and soy for 1000s of years are all small and weak, whereas the people who've been eating meat and strong and masculine. In central asia, the meat eating nomads (like the kazakh nomads) and literally 2 heads taller than the central asian people who've been eating an agricultural diet for 1000s of years. In europe, the south europeans who've practiced agriculture for 1000s of years and much smaller and less masculine than the nordic and germanic meat eating chads are.In the america's, the north american meat eating natives are 2 heads talles and more masculine than the south american agricultural weaklings are.East asians are the epitome of a diet that makes you weak and soft. Not only have they been eating rice and other grains for 1000s of years, but they've also been eating soy.
>>20983284Actually, there are several countries in Asia where the average height of the country is currently skyrocketing after their diets are starting to contain more animal protein. Literally within one generation, kids are becoming a feet taller then their parents, because their diets contain more meat.
>>20983304>first generationWhen you get all nutrients in your childhood, only then your skull will develop the way its intended. Majority of japs have eyesight problems, thats not genetical. Tofu is peasant food.
>>20983304>In 1 generation? No, of course noMore can change in 1 generation then you might think, like >>20983307 says, it's happening in a lot of countries right now. But the thing is that you need to be eating this diet from an early age. If your body has stopped growing, then switching up your diet isn't going to suddently make you taller or change your bone structure. But when you start eating a healthy diet from a young age, a lot can change in 1 generation.
>>20983284>The Chinese noted with surprise and disgust the ability of the Mongol warriors to survive on little food and water for long periods; according to one, the entire army could camp without a single puff of smoke since they needed no fires to cook. Compared to the Jurched soldiers, the Mongols were much healthier and stronger. The Mongols consumed a steady diet of meat, milk, yogurt, and other dairy products, and they fought men who lived on gruel made from various grains. The grain diet of the peasant warriors stunted their bones, rotted their teeth, and left them weak and prone to disease. In contrast, the poorest Mongol soldier ate mostly protein, thereby giving him strong teeth and bones.― Jack Weatherford, Genghis Khan and the Making of the Modern World
>>20971089My mum makes tofu egg rolls that are pretty good imo. Basically asian salad mix, tofu seasoned with chinese 5 spice, maybe some onion and fried egg in the same pan. Fill egg roll wrappers with the mix and fry in cheap olive oil.
The best tofu I ever had was from, gulp, P.F. Chang’s.
