Thinking about getting an ice cream maker. Creami or creami deluxe or something entirely different?

I got both the creami and creami breeze a couple years ago. It's absolutely unmatched for making healthy ice cream recipes due to the way it works, but if you just want regular ice cream there are much cheaper and better alternatives.

Proper compressor machines cost more than the ninjas. The only other cheaper methods are the machines that spin a frozen bowl you have to keep in the freezer which kinda suck since the bowl defrosts as you're churning and usually gets too warm by the time it's churned enough and it's too warm.

They're still more convenient than ninjas overall. You can actually freeze the ice cream from traditional churners. With creamis, you have to finish it once you've made it since it doesn't incorporate air.

Still a pain, it requires keeping a big chunk of your freezer available, and it needs to be frozen well before you start churning. For any larger batches I found it was easier to have two of the inner bowls, freeze them both, and halfway through the churning, swap them out to keep the ice cream cold enough.

Yes it's cheap, yes it makes okay ice cream, but I'd hardly call it convenient.

I have the one that looks like this, I got it as a gift but I assume it's the cheapo option. No need for rock salt and ice which is just a mess you have to clean up. I've made both regular ice cream and frozen custard in it, and never had any problem. Even leftover ice cream from the freezer comes out soft enough you can just dip into it, but that probably depends more on what recipe you follow. Only downside is that you couldn't make enough for a big family gathering.

Assuming you're using a good ice cream recipe with appropriate amounts of sugars, solids and stabilizing ingredients, the compressor machine gives a better texture with smaller ice crystals. The appeal of the creami is that you can put just about anything in it and it will have at least an ok texture when served immediately, like just blending a can of fruit or something. But unless the mix was properly formulated, it will likely freeze solid in the freezer and has to be reblended every time as opposed to proper ice cream which holds its texture.

I like the results when using both. First freeze the base in the compressor machine, transfer to the creami jars, harden in the freezer and then blend the ice cream in the creami. It kind of de-aerates the ice cream and makes it denser, which is a texture I prefer. This would be pointless if you like your ice cream more fluffy. In that case you really need a compressor machine because the creami incorporates almost no air to the mix.

I got a Cuisinart ice cream maker.
I make ice cream or sorbet maybe 3-4 times a year.
It's pretty good but really comes down to the recipe you use.
There are better ones that has active refridgeration for the core where the Cuisinart uses a pre-frozen core. But imo the Cuisinart is the best bang for the buck. And unless you want a giant appliance just to make ice cream every once in a while. I'd suggest getting one like the Cuisinart.

The Ninja Creami does not make ice cream like traditional ice cream machines. Instead you freeze it, then the Ninja mixes it after the fact to 'cream' it. This is reverse of mixing while freezing that all other methods use.

The upside is you can make weird ass ice cream mixes, so long as it can blend it. The downside is you need containers for it to pre-freeze all the stuff.

The other downside is lack of air, which can drastically alter the texture. If you like airy ice cream the ninja ain't it.
It also doesn't keep very well unless you're going to re-mix any time you want some.

I have a ceramic and love it, but be aware that the texture you get out of them is not really ice cream. The ice crystals are larger so it's rougher than proper ice cream.
Personally I don't mind, but it's worth considering.

Literally 0 reason to buy a ceramic or any pre freeze bullshit machine.

I did the same and was surprised it did so well and was that easy. I ended up buying a 2nd freeeze bowl so we could make different types the same day without waiting 12+ hrs to re-freeze
