I tried, but I’m a n00b.

looks incredible. your dog won't care that you plated his food, but he'll definitely enjoy eating it. can we get a picture of your pup?
>>
>>20979101
Is there any reason that couldn't have just been a soup?
>>
>>20979109
Because I didn’t use peas but fava beans instead and I like to eat them as a purée.

yeah it shows...
my vomit at 5am from a night of vodka and kebab comes out looking more aesthetic than this

typical beginner mistake
>you put like double or tripple the food on the plate that should be there
so way too overcrowded

other than that
>cut protein into clean shape
>also try to give the largest protein surfaces a uniform sear and contrasting color, especially with so much "light" colors around

then the veggies
>vary height and orientation of your celery
>cut carrots in a different shape, mushy on top of mushy looks awful

and
>garnish more consciously
>more asymmetry
>start layering more / symmetric layering, i.e. you currently have 2 layers and on the second one are 3 things vs 1 on the first -> looks unbalanced

when you fixed all of this we can talk about
>better plating
>not pooling the sauce / puree
>>

It looks like dog food

>more asymmetry
>start layering more / symmetric layering
just realized this sounds contradicting in my post

the key is to have
>symmetry in asymmetry

so your overall plating will look better asymmetric
but the individual (sub)components can (and often should) be (somewhat) symmetric

think of it like this
if you're preparing a single component, try to fit some symmetry into it
if you're putting something on a plate, don't make it symmetric
>>

So make it semetric, but don't make it semetrical
Got it.

I’ll take note thanks

Wow, thanks a lot OP. I was going to eat a sandwich until I saw your thread in the catalogue. Did you vomit on a plate and then add cat food?? I'm not hungry anymore.
>>
>>20979101
Nice take on a roast, it’s def hard to plate them fancy.

>>20979139
I like the color and texture on this one a lot.

"Penne with cat vomit that I left under the Christmas tree"

Thanks anon.

It was boiled turkey breast with steamed carrots and fennel on a fava beans purée bed.

It’s just an irl shitpost to play with “boring” food, and personally I liked the taste of that dish despite the look.

The pasta is my signature legume pasta (it’s red lentils this time) cooked in bone stock and sautéed in the ossobuco marrow, the fat and the starch is then emulsified with nutritional yeast. Sometimes I add caramelised onions too.

jesus i thought that was pork loin. Boiled turkey bro? you're better than that.
>>
>>20979101
Why would you plate a rustic and homey dish like that lol
>>
>>20979101
that looks like it would taste pretty good but the plating looks like a crime against humanity
>>
>>20979101
Food looks good but plating is tryhard
>>
>>20979107
loooool
>>
>>20979178
damn some actually goodadvice
>>
>>20979754
The problem is this is not going to look good no matter how you try to present it
It's like I want to give you shit but most of all what did you expect? It's boiling shit with pureed crap in the bottom there is like no color or texture to it, no consistency either
Not everything needs fancy presentation, certainly not this
>>
>>20979754
It could be done...

smaller plate, a good dollop of puree with a smear. Mashed carrot off to one side (maybe not mashed). Fennel cooked a lot less - left green for a shock of colour and texture, and some of the turkey skin crisped. 30/60 degree angles, especailly when applicable to gain height...

Boiled turkey breast...No mushy peas? Homie's right, this should have been a soup.
