I remember there being accusations that he had lied about or embellished some of his past jobs and achievements. I don't think much (if any) of it was true, but that kind of sank him for a while.

As others have noted, he was fired from Food Network for using a fraudulent resume. It's a pity he had to bullshit because the guy can legitimately cook (see also: 'American Sniper' Chris Kyle).
