Are rice cookers a meme? Everyone has a pot and a timer app, a device just for cooking rice seems like a pointless unitasker.
No -> Pointless /Do you eat a lot of rice? \ Yes -> Not pointless
>>20981914once again, fpbp
I have one and never use it because the dried rice sticking to it is annoying as fuck (i believe this isn't an issue usually, mine's just old and cheap)I just use a pot unless I cook multiple portions of rice (which is almost never)basically >>20981914
are fryers a meme? all you need are a pot with maybe a thermometer and a timer?
>>20981949No -> Pointless/Are you fat?\Yes -> Notpointless
>throw in entire packet of 400g of rice>have meal prep for four days with no effortyou make life a lot easier for yourself with a cheap rice cooker not to mention the rice starts off dry by default which isnt a given when using a potits worth the 20 one time buckaroos to get a cheap one from aldi
>>20981958>mmmm, I sure do love eating leftovers for four days>stale food from days ago is so nicemealpreppers are a mistake. Also rice cookers are a bit of a meme, a pot on the stove does the job but rice cookers make it bullet proof and easy. fpbp
>>20981958>not washing the rice firstDisgusting.
>>20981967>washing riceI bet you took the vax, too, huh, faggot?
>>20981967i wash rice after it cooks, really helps moisturize it
>>20981967anon I am European the rice comes in a clean boxif youre from Asia and get the 20kg bags with rocks in them then you wash it>>20981961>stale food from days ago is so nicethis, but unironically
>>20981901We have this thread like 4 times a week
my asian friends get really upset when i tell them i eat 40 second microwaveable rice :)deal with it, rice is rice
If you are Asian you should buy a rice cookersIf you are not Asian you should not buy a rice cookersIt's that simple
>>20981998and we are becoming increasingly efficient at it
>>20982016Rice is literally a miracle with how cheap it is. 20lbs for like $30.. Buying packaged rice like that is burning money.
>>20982017>a rice cookersGood morning saar
>>20982026Bro you're overpaying even at that priceI bought a 50lb bag yesterday for 20 bucks
Reasons why rice cookers are good:>in theory they should heat uniformly from all sides ensuring proper cooking>in japan they mainly rely on nuclear energy so electricity is cheaper than using a gas stove>they are designed to give reliable results so it takes the guesswork out of the equation>not every stove heats the same way>you kinda need to keep an eye on the rice if you use a regular pot, with a rice cooker you can just set and forget it
>>20982026im not poor so idgaf
Thinking about getting this rice cooker, Philips Premium 3000 Series Digital Rice & Multi Cooker. It's $139 AUD ($90.79 USD). There are lots of cheaper ones that look like they have the same functionality (digital unlike the one in OP), but Philips is a well known reliable brand whereas all the other cheaper ones aren't. Seems like I'd be taking a risk with them. I've been let down before by going with cheaper brands. You think something won't break (otherwise how could they sell it?) but it does and then you realise you really do get what you pay for. Anyway, let me know what you think.
Its ok if you live in a crammed apartment with no stove like most of east asia, but its completely retarded otherwise.
>>20982056i think youre a moron if you cant use the cheap ones without breaking them lmao
>>20981901I like my rice cooker and use it a few times a week. I finally figured out how to use it to make basmati rice too, which is nice because I use it for Indian food and fried rice.
>>20982085Which rice cooker do you have?
>>20981984you don't wash rice because it's dirty, you wash it to get rid of excess starch which makes the rice mushy.>>20982056buy zojirushi only when buying anything more than a cheap one
>>20982143Toshiba and tiger make excellent rice cookers too, they are just harder to find outside of Japan.
>>20982056Get a zojirushi neuro fuzzy It's worth it if you eat rice regularlyNeuro fuzzy makes it so the rice comes out perfectly every time
>>20982159It's 300 dollars dawg :'(
>>20982207Well I have a philips rice cooker with a feature called 'fuzzy logic' that's good but I got it from Hong Kong >Smartly control the temperature and duration of different cooking stages based on your chosen rice type and texture. Let the smart temperature sensors monitor and optimize heat energy to deliver the perfect aroma, flavor and mouth-feel.That sounds like fuzzy logic to me so maybe the one you posted is ok
>>20981901Personally I use my microwave for rice. It has a bunch of modes along with a "steam" mode, I just put the rice in there with water in a glass pot, it's always good after 20 minutes. If you have one of these larger and better microwaves there's a good chance you can do it too.As for the rice cooker, my gf has one with just a switch to switch it on, it turns itself off when the rice is done. also a convenient and consistent way to make rice. Just get one that is not coated in (((teflon)))
>>20982216I'm sure it'd be fine, but I would like to have a zojirushi one. At least then I'd be sure that my rice was the highest quality. I did the math on this >>20982016 since this guy's obviously Australian also (I recognised the brand), and if I bought a Zojirushi Neuro Fuzzy, and 5kg bags of rice to last a year, it would cost less than if I bought one year's worth of that microwaveable rice. And then it'd cost even less in the years thereafter because I only paid for the rice cooker once. I think I'll go with the Zojirushi, thanks for the recommendations bros.
>>20982222A rice cooker is one of the few uses of Teflon that isn't bad, it will never go above 212f so why worry about it?
>>20982235I'd rather not have it in my food at all. Besides, what's it good for in a rice cooker? At uni I cooked rice in a stainless pot without issues.
>>20982242But it doesn't get in your food, don't you understand it's mechanism of action? In a rice cooker it is nearly 300f cooler than the temps needed to start making it break down. Cool, keep using your pot then and stop posting about things you have zero understanding of.
>>20982148the rice cookers themselves are good but from what i've seen their replacement parts supply are worse so i don't consider them. i had once found a secondhand tiger IH cooker missing a bowl, and it was impossible to find one. even if it were stocked it would have been $100 which is far too much for just a bowl. if you have a different experience i'd love to hear,
>>20982454>replacement parts supply are worse so i don't consider them. What parts can you even possibly replace on a rice cooker? The bowl, lid, and a carry handle? How are you breaking any of those?
>>20982454I have a brand new zojirushi and a replacement bowl for it from the manufacturer is 100 dollars too, I don't plan on losing it and hopefully I won't drop it.
>>20982463the bowl, given that it's nonstick. not that it breaks but it'll get worn eventually, not for over a decade most likely but i plan on using the cooker for longer than that.not just rice cookers though, their mugs are very good stuff and they sell replacement lids and gaskets for those, i have one of their breadmakers just because i found it for $10 although to be fair i'd probably sell it long before i'd ever need a replacement (nonstick) pan, etc for products i may consider in the future>>20982477must be a pressure ih model i'm assuming?
>>20982026What kind of luxury rice are you buying?
>>20982488Yes, it makes noticably better rice than my old 20 dollar aroma.
>>20981901Oh look, it's the weekly "rice cooker" bullshit thread.
>timer appYou mean a clock?
