What foods do you eat with your family at Christmas time in your country? Here in Australia my family typically has trifle, which is dessert with custard and jelly and some fruit. It doesn't look great but it tastes really good. Anyway, I saw those panettone threads the Italians keep posting and was curious about what other foods people from other countries eat around Christmas time.

We used to go get chinese food along with all the Jews, but at some point it became the thing for all non-christians to do and the chinese restaurants got way too expensive and busy on Christmas to keep bothering. So just spaghetti or pizza or something nowadays.

In the US it's traditionally pretty similar to Thanksgiving:
>Turkey with stuffing or ham, prime rib if you're bougie
>potatoes/sweet potatoes
>Apple/pumpkin pie for dessert
>green bean casserole is a meme, don't know anyone who actually does this

Growing up in an Italian American family we did turkey + some generic Italian American sides (artichoke, stuffed mushrooms, rice balls) and now we just order trays of food from a restaurant.

Who is we? Why isn't your family Christian?

My family
>Why isn't your family Christian?
Because my parents weren't born to Christian parents and none of us found the idea of worshiping a hippy Jew who got killed particularly convincing.

Were your grandparents hippies or are you non-white?

My mom makes what we call "red salad" every year. It's sauerkraut, carrots, beets, dill gherkins and kidney beans. She says her mom got it from her German friend.

In my family puchero, lamb chops, prawn cocktail and turrĂ³n on christmas eve; and roast turkey with roast potatoes, roast parsnips, sage & onion & sausage stuffing, boiled carrots, peas, green beans and brussel sprouts for dinner on christmas day. We also have orange tortas for breakfast and mince pies for tea, sometimes with custard for dessert. Leftover turkey sandwiches for about two days after and I always try to make a turkey stir fry on boxing day.

The missus makes black cake. Only real tradition we have for the holiday.
