What is your favorite Indian dish? For me, it is Saag Paneer.
>>
>>20985582
chicken korma or lamb vindaloo.
>>
i like t thehe chicken with spices
>>
this is a safe space, we don’t have to pretend butter chicken+naan isn’t the best to ever do it

he's right.

and I'll only eat it if it's cooked by a white person. I don't want to get diarrhea.
>>

It's tomato sauce.

and?
>>
>>20985582
I change my mind a lot when I order, sometimes it's a chicken dhansak and I like that with mushroom rice, other times I will order a lamb Madras or Bhuna with plain rice.

If I am eating out, I always go for the pickle dishes and poppadoms, I love Lime pickle.

I went to one place once and had Keralan fish curry, that was pretty good too.
>>
>>20985622
what the fuck is the "pickle" ? I ordererd it once with papadoms and it was mayonaise with what im guessing small pieces of rotten fish in it?
>>
>>20985623
Lime pickle is actually quite hot and salty, no mayonnaise at all.

You normally get a selection of about 4 - including lime pickle, mango chutney, a yogurt and mint thing and another with lots of onions in.
>mayonaise with what im guessing small pieces of rotten fish in it?
Things that never happened.
>>
>living in a tiny town, only two supermarkets, and very limited selection
>coriander tastes like soap
>still love saag paneer

so, how do I make it? What cheese can I use, that is more widely available, and can I replace coriander with parsley?

I've had the lemmon one. I love it too
I never even tried Indian food until my early 20s, but South Indian is my favorite of all foods
>>
>>20985634
>What cheese can I use
Paneer is a soft cheese, so I reckon you could use feta as a substitute.

>>20985635
i have no idea what that is, never seen it before and I do eat at lots of indians, also Why are the poppadoms folded like that? I have never seen that before either.
>>
>>20985639
But Feta is so salty, wouldn't it be overpowering?

>>
>>20985642
I don't know if it is, but the dish looked exactly like that (without the limes and pepper flakes)
>>
>>20985649
It is. And an obvious one.
>>
>>20985651
what gives it away?
>>
>>20985640
It was just a suggestion more based on texture, I suppose you could use tofu? Paneer isn't a strong cheese at all.

>>20985637
>but South Indian is my favorite of all foods
I was away visiting when I had keralan fish curry, I don't see it locally, as most Idians in Britain are run by Bengalis, who are North.

My parents went to Sri-Lanka on holiday once and that's very similar to Southern Indian cooking, lots of coconuts and stuff.

When I was in India I liked everything I tried except for one chutney that I thought was going to make me throw up.

>>20985635
There are so many chutneys and pickles in India that your condiment could have been almost anything.

>>20985640
Paneer is actually pretty easy to make at home. You might try that. I would not use feta as a substitute. https://www.indianhealthyrecipes.com/how-to-make-paneer-cubes-at-home/
>>
>>20985582
Saag paneer is definitely one of my favourites, make it fairly commonly.
Same with dahl and biryani
>>
paneer has literally no taste
might as well eat tofu
>>
>>20985836

The fact that they shit their streets and throw all the trash wherever they want kinda ruins it for me.

The trick is to find it made by 2nd generation or later immigrants or white people.
>>
>>20989939
You realize that the number of people with >110 IQs in India is higher than the population of the country you live in, right? I'm guessing yours is around 90 or so.
>>
Indian cook here.
Going through a north Indian phase, lots of tandoor breads.
>>
gotta be gobi gosht for me
>>
I make saag paneer out of just about Anything, kale, nettles, obviously it's a bit more fibrous but that's fine.
There's no better way to use all the edible greens from your garden like beetroot leaves, sorrel, broad leaf spinach.

Going to try blending then ricing the greens to get a better texture when using mixed greens.

It's pretty common in India to get this with potato. In rural areas they don't blend the spinach it's just thrown in with stews
>>
why the fuck is it so hard to find southern indian restaurants/foog in the US? I swear its almost exclusively northern indian cuisine here

Palak paneer or butter chicken. Kinda hard to decide between them.
>>
The potato stuffed with cheese in the peanut curry
Lamb saag would be a close second
>>
When I was a kid my parents bought a ready made spice mix, something supposedly indian, then proceeded to absolutely fuck up the cooking, basically boiling chicken breasts in this spice water. Did not try any indian food until i grew up.
>>
>>20985582
Saag Paneer is great but my top tier has to be a Chicken Biryani
>>
this thread is filled with pictures of diarrhea and no one bats an eye
>>

If your diarrhea looks like saag then thankfully you'll be dead soon.

For me it's the humble egg curry.

Chicken tikka chaat puri

>>20985582
One particular saag paneer was the best indian dish I've had, but only once. The restaurant changed hands and every other place I've tried it it's merely okay.
>>
>>20985582
palak paneer/saag paneer is based

that indian carrot dessert is also top tier
>>
>>20985582
Shahi paneer or paneer tikka masala. I love paneer, I just wish I could figure out how to make great paneer at home. Every time I've tried it's ok but not as good as at a restaurant.
>>
