Did you know a sushi cook has to study up to 20 YEARS how to make this complex dish, until he can call himself a true Itamae?
>>21077819Damn, 20 years of cooking just so I can get it at the grocery store for 5 bucks?
>>21077819Funny the number of years gets higher every time I hear about it.
>>21078136to put fish on top of rice? it's no small featsashimi is even more challenginghere you must learn NOT to put fish on rice
>>21077819Help, I have been training for 35 years and i still can't call myself a sushi master
>>21077819This joke was literally never funny.
>>21078072Grocery store sushi suck major ass
>>21077819
omg yes i had to study blade for 25 years before i could even take it down and polish it, it will be another 15 years of studying before i can swing itle hecking expertise building
>>21077819It took me two tries to perfect sushi.Making it is easy. Getting access to the best fish and rice is the part that takes many years of networking.
>>21081096Shouldn't you have a mentor that already has access? Or is he the one who makes you prepare the rice for 20 years?
>someone has to devote themselves to their job???>HAHAHAHAHHAWhy does this concept never fail to make 4channers seethe?
Meanwhile I made a pretty good pizza earlier today, so i'm basically a master italian chef
>>21078140Hey Lois, this is just like the time I had to not say Jackie Chan!
>>21080813Is this scene making fun of the guy, or supportive of him?
>>21082073Devoting yourself to a job is pretty cringe to be honest. Especially if you can't take a joke about that job
>>21077819Same deal with being a ramen master. Did you ever see the movie Ramen Girl? They don’t let just anyone prepare ramen. The bar is high.
>>21082009>Shouldn't you have a mentor that already has access?you think the guy getting you your apprenticeship is gunna hook you up with guys in the industry he's known 50 years?
Isn't it 20 years just to learn to make the rice? They're very autistic about their rice.
>>21080813this whole scene is retarded and dishonest
>>21077819You can work as a cook in a Sushiro in Japan after a week of training. It's all simply cutting a piece of the fish and putting it on a pre molded slab of rice, and maybe a drop of sauce and vinegar on it."Le legendary sushi chef with 50 years of training" isn't really a thing anymore.
>>21080813I'm gonna call this guy Sheldon /ck/ooper every time I see this gif, until it sticks
Obviously the >20 years to make sushi thing is a meme, but I wonder how long it takes to have a good grasp on sushi-making, including choosing and cutting fish, as well as making rice.
>>21077819and that's not even counting the additional 10 years spent solely on the tamago (the egg)
>>21084606I think you could do a weekend short course on choosing and cuffing fish, as well as making rice, and be pretty set.
>>21084606>Obviously the >20 years to make sushi thing is a meme, but I wonder how long it takes to have a good grasp on sushi-making, including choosing and cutting fish, as well as making rice. The "need to wash rice for 10 years before you can even start to make sushi" is basically just a shit-test to make sure you're not some faggot casual who'll quit. It means the only people still left after 10 years of washing rice for $8/hr are the actual, dedicated wanna-be sushi chefs. Also 10 years isnt really that long. Most normal apprenticeships are 3-4 years, the longer ones like Piano Tuners apprenticeships are 10 years (not counting 4 years of a university degree required beforehand, plus a decade or more of actual music training, practice and exams to get to that stage).
>>21082533i waited 999 seconds to abandon a lifetime of lurking /ck/ so I could tell you that you've fundamentally shifted my idea of how retarded someone can be. To watch a scene from a movie and say "chat how should this make me feel" is a mental failing that should preclude you from making eye contact with your fellow man
>>21085458What’s the movie ?
>>21084442it's revolving sushi you retard. nobody eating at such a place gives a fuck. they know it's shit quality but it's cheap. soon they'll have robots doing the cutting and prep for those types of places
>>21078152>This joke was literally never funny.
>>21080813Reminder that fancy sushi restaurants put out the soy sauce and wasabi to test people so they don't waste quality ingredients on them
URU u gaijin havu disureprected the art of sushi aru. never comu to my countruru
>>21085458A lifetime of lurking should have exposed you to enough autism to be prepared for that kind of reaction, frankly
I've never finished a sushi meal and been impressed, am I just not having really good sushi? I've never been anywhere fancy, just local sushi joints but people always gush disproportionally about it I feel.

>>21085610Good sushi has more ingredients than fish and sushi rice. The may have a little chili topping or citrus salsa thing that compliments the fish you ordered. They also don't have avacado in every damn roll they make.

Russia and Ukraine have way better sushi than Japan lmao
>>21085977>sold the slop successfully to American goobersMake ramen great again
The only other food that has this level of wank to it is maybe pizza
>>21085969This
The way you cut the fish and the ratio of rice to fish is probably something someone could spend an autistic amount of time mastering. BBQ people spend insane amounts of time perfecting their food. I don't understand why this gets so endlessly circlejerked here when it gets brought up. You could take the disingenuous "it's just fish on rice lol" take and apply it so many different foods.
>>21079335I beg to differ. The salmon ones are 5 bucks on wednesdays and let me say it goes great with picrel.
>>21082533>is this scene making fun of the fat retard screaming at people for eating food in a way he doesn't like?

+200 additional years for the right to cover it with sauce
>>21085800Billions. Surprisingly good show up until season 5, where a bunch of things went wrong at once. Covid halted production for a long time and a lot of writers cycled out, then the wife of the actor for the main antagonist died and he had to suddenly leave the show, prompting a large plot rewrite from the shitty new writers.
>>21085979t h-1b jeet
Why would you spend 20 years studying to be a sushi chef when you could spend 20 minutes watching a chipotle training video and be a professional burrito assembler?
>>21090040even less if you want to be an MCSE - McDonald's Certified Sandwich Engineer
>>21077819How long do they have to study before they're allowed to cook the fish like human beings?
The first time I went to a sushi place in Japan I said "umai" instead of "oishii"I wonder how many ancestors down the line I dishonored
>>21077819You people have prejudices and misconceptions about Japanese.
>>21080813>fucking heathensIn Japan.
>>21087398big if true
It still takes about 10 years for a sushi chef to own his own restaurant.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ghuY92o174E
>>21094030So roughly the same amount of time it would take a French chef to go from apprentice to owner?
