Soneone on /int/ just told me olive oil doesn't do well at high temps so I should put lard or tallow or coconut butter on my baked potato in the oven. Have you ever heard of such barbarism?
>>21087863Pan: nice and hotOlive oil: in
>>21087863he sounds like a handsome genius, and you sound like a pussy idiot. no, that poster wasn't me tho i wish i were him.
>one potatoeWho does this?
>>21087876Two potatoes?!You're just asking for a stomach ache.
>>21087863yes olive oil is not good for high heat because it burns and oxidizes
>>21087863if you don't mind it smoking, giver. It's generally a sign that the oil isn't holding up, and it's always going to be somewhat carcinogenic.
>>21087869That's a pie dish resting on top of a pan. I put it in the oven on the pie dish at 400f for 55 minutes.>>21087873>>21087880Olive oil on baked potato is like white on rice, you're blowing my mind with this.>>21087876Ummm, single people? I'm gonna cook a strip and eat hard boiled eggs with it too.(The steak resting after I paper toweled and seasoned it with salt pepper and Montreal steak season)
I'm doing some sausages in olive oil on medium heat, just don't go full retard on it and take your time.
>>21087884people used to say mcdonald's had the best french fries because they were cooked in -guess what?- tallow.
>>21087884>Olive oil on baked potato is like white on rice, you're blowing my mind with this.Depends on the temperature
>>21087891I don't eat fast food but are the mechanics of deep frying and baking really similar? McDonald's fries don't even have skin like Wendy's fries.>>21087894Okay, I used extra virgin so it's fine. What was that dude talking about "high heat" I think the oven caps at 475 or something, but what you really bake a potato that hot?
>>21087894this is wrong
>>21087903
>>21087901mcd's stopped using tallow in the 90s, and the animals fats infuse the potato with yummy flavors.probably because humans evolved to get essential nutrition from animals
>>21087908most of these oils are not human edible
>>21087911>>21087921You are insane. I'm going to fry my steak in avocado oil.
>>21087921I didn't make the chart nor the oils, pal
>>21087926what? i thought it was OC.shame on me for having faith in this chudcel website
>>21087901The more virgins your oil has, the more likely it is to pretend it's a dragon. The smoke point of extra virgin olive oil can be as low as 350F depending on the oil. The more expensive stuff is up around 400F. Most deep frying is done around 375-390... If it catches smoke while you're baking your taters, it's the cheap shit - save that for salads. Most other oils are above 400F, up to just above 500F for some specifically high heat oils like refined avocado oil.
>>21087884Gonna cook it?
>>21087944Yeah, I cooked it a bit too much but it's still good
>>21087983Medium is better than rare anyways.
>>21088005It's certainly still good and I've heard cooked meat was why our brains evolved/developed better so maybe it's healthier.
>>21087863Don't get these schizos started on oils.
>>21087921Oh fuck off, lunatic. We eat them all the time and so do you, despite being irrationally afraid of them. Maybe you know something the FDA doesn't, but I'm pretty sure you're crazy.
>>21088010>I've heardYou're retarded.
>>21088020Yeah, like I've heard eating salad after the meal rather than before is better for digestion. I don't know or care if it's true.
/int/ MENTIONED!!!?!?(also yes, tallow has a higher smoke point)https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Template:Smoke_point_of_cooking_oils
>>21088048>pickek
>>21087863The sign of a true cooklet is someone who uses olive oil for everything.
>>21087983God damn, I hate when poor people try to cook.
>>21088112What's wrong with it?
>>21087863What’s on your hand?>>21087983Turned out nice though, I like your drinking glass
>>21088188I put salt in my hand then oil them I rub it all over the potato.
>>21087908This is also wrong. Butter's smoke point is around 350 F.
>>21087869Now in with the onionsJust listen to that sizzle
>>21087863>Meds use olive oil religiously for thousands of years>Lay the foundations for all of western culture for thousands of years after their respective heydays>Suddenly its supposedly bad for you and supposedly not good for cooking, completely out of nowhere, for the last few years onlyYou people will NEVER take my fucking olive oil. Also, why are they obsessed with lard? Why isn't butter good enough anymore?
>>21087908>>21088048It's literally all oilslop no matter what you buy, lmao
Why the fuck is this still not common knowledge?? There's even retards around here that cook with evo lmao. If you wanna cook with olive oil you need to use refined. Always use lard, tallow or ghee for high temps/frying
>>21088191Don't listen to Adam, he does a lot of shit for da vyoos.
>You can't use olive oil for that, it's not neutral>Use only neutral oils>Use only neutral oils, or olive oilI use olive oils in my brownies and they come out fine.
>>21088430If I go to sear something and my oil catches fire, I'm using it for arson.
>>21088735it's fine in things where the flavour isn't going to detract from the final product. Cocoa's strongly flavoured with enough of that low-end earthiness to work with the flavour of olive oil. Marzipan isn't - it works, but not if you're not expecting the olive oil.
>>21087891I worked there when they used that, then after as well, and guess what? Not much better with the "tallow." Definitely not worth all the hype that the millennizoomers want to give it. In fact, they've continued to improve the oil to the point that it's as good now as it was then, so fuck off.
>>21088430That's why I use lard or tallow.
>>21088430>in some casesWell just don't buy your avocado oil from the dollar store.
>>21087891and most of those people weren't alive when they used tallow
how hot does a bakin potater get thoughit's full of water so I would assume nothing that would damage olive erl
>>21089163anything over 100 and it's instantly burninated and your meal is completely ruined
I'm using olive oil again
>>21090220Extra vierge for cooking? Is this bait or are you stupid?
>>21091091if he doesn't go above 350F it's fine
>>21091091You're asking that to someone who takes a picture of their dirty greasy hands in front of the food?
>>21087863It's your money to waste.
>>21087863olive oil is perfectly fine for frying. it's a bit of a waste because it loses most of its taste when heated up, but otherwise it works great. we use olive oil for everything in southern europe.
