I know this board takes cooking seriously, so was wondering what local sources do you get your ingredients? Surely none of you go to corporate supermarkets of any brand name which is just slop-tier and fast-food tier quality compared to local markets where you get fresh ingredients, right?

I go to BOTH big name supermarkets because their stuff is pretty decent, especially the bakeries, but I also visit the butchie, the fishman, and an amazing produce market that has all the best veggies and crazy imported cheeses and whatnot and by far the best garlic I've ever had.

>tl;dr: I go everywhere

What do you expect, we're going to say "oh I go to Snuck's, formerly Cheeds, over on market" and nobody is going to know what that is.

I would more often for produce if the local retail prices weren’t so much higher than the wholesale price.

Growing more fruits and herbs over the past couple years and once I get a big freezer I might buy part of a cow.

I know Snuck's

Op here. All of you are wrong and only get corporate slop. I only shop at the Cock mart.

Supermarkets also buy locally. Depends on what you're getting. I like farmers markets when in season. I love roadside berry vendors too.
I buy fish at the dock from the fishermen when I can. They roast my coffee down the street.
But I still get meat and stuff from chain stores.

Raise chickens for meat and eggs. Have some sheep/lamb I raised in the freezer. I have some pigs that will be ready to process in a couple months. I know a local cattle rancher I buy beef from before I slaughter one of my cows.

Farmers market for veggies, usually trade them for the eggs or chicken I sell at the same market lol.

The Mexican market has decent quality cheap meats and sometimes they have really cool fruits. Last time I got white zapote and sweet mamey. The zapote is amazingly delicious. Mamey is not ripe yet.

This. You can get a lot of your basic shit from your local grocery store but sometimes you need to go to other places if you want some special meat or produce, especially seasonal ones.

Most of our fresh groceries come from independently owned supermarkets or the green grocer at the next corner from our house.
Chain supermarkets are just for junk, eggs and dairy.

Nigga those are large corporate supermarket brands selling processed or heavily preserved slop and not what's being asked
>>
local butcher for meat since supermarket meat is all full of additives and is half water.
Bread at the local bakery but usually i bake bread myself.
Fresh ingredients from the supermarkets or local farmer when its the season.
I dont really buy processed foods so thats about it

Some of the Walmart locations have extremely good produce sections. You'd know that, if you weren't a non-cooking tastelet, masquerading as a pretentious asshole.
>>
Suprised no one mentioned Asian markets for fish, veggies and spices. Some also have their own butcher. Also the Amish for breads, meat and some veggies.
