I going to get a sams membership and do a big shopping tomorrow.
What am in in for? What should I get?

I used to always get a pizza and a rottie chicken at Costco. Are they as good a deal at sams?
I really need to economize this year
>>
How much is a Sam's membership
>>
A shittier costco.
>>
>>21091835
Costco is a jewish company, you disgusting rat
>>
>>21091666
A lot of the same or equivalent items to Costco at similar prices. Costco seems to be carrying fewer cryovac subprimals here in recent years except for brisket. Costco used to slant a little more college-educated middle class and Sams used to slant a little more prosperous blue collar but they've been converging. You'll probably still see more Teslas and Subarus in a Costco lot and more trucks in a Sams lot, but they're buying the same frozen slop.
>>
Sam's club is annoying because you can't buy the hot dogs as a single item but you have to get the combo. So if you want 2 hot dogs you have to get 2 drinks as well. It's stupid.
>>
>>21091666
depends on your country I guess. Im brazilian and my local sams club doesnt sell pizzas or chickens or anything cooked besides some bakery items, and most products are very expensive because its all imported. I regretted paying for my membership and wont renew it
>>21091853
also this. Very few items arent in bulk
>>
>>21091835
>>21091840
Please dont let this thread fall into an antisamitic argument
>>
>>21091666
no wonder americans are so goddamn fat that slop is insanely cheap

i would weigh 600lbs if i lived in america, good thing i'm canadian where food is too expensive to buy.
>>
>>21091666
nice trips OP. but yo OP. Sam's is the shit! although ive only been to a sams never a costco so im not to familiar with the differences.
I buy practically all my meat from sams...chicken breats, legs, pork loin, ribs...compared to the grocery store youre going to save a shit load right there. Break it all down and freeze it. I Also get my paper towels/toilet paper from there.
I also use there scan and go app on my phone so i dont have to wait in a line at checkout.
i understand you can pay extra for them to just have them bring your stuff out to your ca but ive never done that, ummm hmm idk its been a life safer. I bascially do all my shopping there except smaller niche items i can only get at the asian market or a grocery store.
>>
>>21091872
I just stated a fact found on wikipedia, even history channel has an episode about costco
>>
>>21091884
In a hundred years they'll be making movies about how Costco stood up to the Nazis
>>
>>21091882
>I buy practically all my meat from sams
Is it as cheap as waiting for meat to go on sale?
Where I live, it seems like once a month chicken goes on sale for 99 cents a pound or less.
Pork but goes on sale for 1.20 per pound but not as often.
I just buy and freeze a months worth at a time
>>
I still don't understand membership stores. I tried shopping at a BJ's before with a friend's card and even buying shit in bulk, if you calculate the cost by weight, was more expensive than just getting shit at Aldi's or something.
>>
>>21091874
the ceo of Costco has literally gotten into fistfights and threatened to murder shareholders over keeping the cost of the hotdog low
>>
>>21092016
Aldi is bottom of the barrel quality so dont compare to that
>>
>>21092055
Aldi has pretty good meats if you stick to the cryovac pork and USDA choice beef, and the imported cheeses are not bad. The imported German bratwurst is mid for Germany but S tier for the US. The produce is hit or miss. Their quality is overall similar to their sister Trader Joe's but they're not as oriented towards aspirational middle-class tastes.
>>
>>21092016
You have to shop pretty carefully to save money at membership stores. It can be more of a quality of life thing - I probably ate more USDA prime steak than I had in my life when Costco was carrying USDA prime subprimals, at about the prices I might have paid for choice. So I didn't *exactly* save money, see?
>>
>>21092055
Aldi is literally top shelf everything
>>
>>21092119
Youre having a laugh
>>
>>21092103
>Their quality is overall similar to their sister Trader Joe's
>>21092103
False
>>
>>21091666
>pizza pretzel

Someone was higher than Elton John when they conjured up this menu.
>>
>>21092170
Trader Joe's fans have a grossly exaggerated sense of the quality and taste of Trader's Joe's crap. It's frequently the same stuff as at Aldi, from the same sources.
>>
>>21092220
Not even the same thing. Aldi is lower than walmart
>>
>>21091666
>What am in in for?
You should know Costco > BJs > than Sam's in every way if money is no object and you're a foodie type, but if you are a household with young kiddos who like national brands, it's the same items as WalMart in larger quantity packages.
Costco has the "Aldi Finds" kind of mystery when you go there, finding little imports from Europe of this or that chocolate, nut, cookie, eclair, or whatever, new products just hitting the marketplace. The prepared desserts and breads are more premium.

I love their Costco optical. I look like a million bucks every December when I spend down my FSA and get a couple more pairs of designer frames. Costco is the only one with mirrored prescription sunglasses made inhouse. Scratch or break anything, just get it remade or refunded...forever.
>>
>>21092273
Does sams have optical?
>>
>>21091853
>Sam's club is annoying because you can't buy the hot dogs as a single item but you have to get the combo.
Anon, Costco literally does that too.
>>
>>21092356
and who is eating two of those? they are 4oz
>>
>>21092356
Never said they didn't. Still annoying.
>>
>>21092239
Walmart has slightly better produce than Aldi or Trader Joe's, which are both very hit or miss. Aldi occasionally has good prices on seasonal items like pomegranates; Trader Joe's will carry trendy things like shishito peppers.

Walmart here also has USDA prime steaks, which are objectively better quality than the best beef at Trader Joe's and Aldi, which is USDA choice. Walmart carries branded Smithfield and Tyson pork products, which I think are a hair more consistently good than any store brand pork until you get to groceries with full service butcher, which barely exist anymore - maybe Andronico's in California?

Walmart also has its bettergoods college-educated-white-girl (authentically made mild taco seasoning!) private label that is pretty comparable to similar items at Target, Trader Joe's, Aldi, etc.

Equivalent items at Aldi and Trader Joe's are the exact same thing - the brioche is identical for example. The difference is, Aldi might have a store brand Tuna Helper, if Trader Joe's did that it would have to be gluten-free, everything bagel flavored bullshit.

NTA but I hate soda, I just want the dog but they're making me pay for something I really don't want.

That was the CEO from 13 FUCKING YEARS ago, and he was arguing with his successor (Jelinek), who ruined everything else except the hotdog, and now they have a new CEO who has done nothing to reverse Jelinek's steady decline in quality & service, which disproportionately targeted American stores. It's all ogre.

I'm tempted to do the Sam's membership sale for $20. I often shop at Costco, but the shopping experience keeps getting worse.
>shit crowds
>shit parking
>awful smell
>long lines everywhere
Not sure I'll pull the trigger since I prefer organic food, which Costco seems to be better for (i.e. Sam's has no organic ground turkey from what I heard).

Sam's club extra large 4 meat pizza is awesome and only $8.98
>>
>>21091666
Those pizzas turned disgusting 14 years ago. They where adequate before then.
>>
>>21093215
Sam's deffo seems like the better option for food court enjoyers. Costco USA basically killed their food court 5 years ago (and simps blamed it on Le Pandemic, but somehow foreign stores were unaffected). Our local Sam's also has cheaper gas now.

I still like Costco for certain staples but they've been losing ground for years. We need to check out Sam's cheese selection, that will be a big factor.
>>
>>21091882
>scan and go app on my phone so i dont have to wait in a line at checkout.
This is a common complaint about Costco, they're about fifteen years behind the times on tech (including the website) and have zero interest in investing more. I dunno if it's a union thing but it's embarrassing. And there is no indication the new CEO will fix anything because he's a typical insider, "hire from within", who has no different experience to offer.
>>
>>21091666
$150 for a hot dog combo seems expensive
>>
>>21093405
He's at a Canadian store. The Canadian rupee has been plummeting since the news that Dictator Trudeau is "stepping down" to join Harry & Meghan Markle in a polyamorous relationship.
>>
>>21093412
how does that work in canadian stores? how much is a pizza or a rottie chicken there?
>>
>>21091831
there are often specials where you can get one for $20 or sometimes like $60 but they throw in a free $40 gift card. Look on stacksocial.

I like how Dr Pepper is featured so prominently in the signage. put some respect on the good doctor's name.
>>
>>21093353
oh wow, like i said never be4en to a costco but my understanding was they are slightly superior to sams club, figured they would have a app
>>
>>21091990
i would think so. plus the quality will be better then its fresher.
idk if im making since of what your asking.... I have never seen any meat go on sale at sams so i imagine the turnover is pretty high
>>
>>21093215
you know you're getting high quality ingredients for that price
>>
>>21091666
I like their greek yogurt, ground beef, and whole milk. It all tastes better than every other pleb market I shop in.
>>
>>21092273
BJs is inferior to Sam's in every way while costing more. The only reason they stay in business is because they build their stores 10 minutes closer to rural areas.
>>
>>21091666
If I get a drink. What do I do with my extra 11 cents?
>>
>>21093642
I wouldn't want to drink out of the can someone's butt was on.

Yeah but you're asexual and incredibly uptight

I want the dr pepper she's sitting on.
