Every fall my parents would make me and my sisters pick up thousands of walnuts, remove the nasty husks, dry them, crack them, package them and sell them at school to teachers and whoever else we knew who wanted them, and that was our allowance money. Moral of the story is I ate so many walnuts as a kid that I hate them now and will avoid them at all costs. All of the trees are dead now, some bug is going around killing walnut trees all over the country.

They taste more sweet and less sharp when soaked. I used to dislike them before I started soaking, but now I love them, just like many other nuts and seeds desu.
