Have you had any experience with things like picrel? I just moved to a new place and the kitchen gets almost no sunlight, but I still want to grow some herbs and I was wondering if these things are worth their mad prices.
>>21101326I do have LEDs to grow plants. But mine are for a different kind of herb
>>21101334The point is I dont wanna risk it considering how expensive these are
>>21101326I haven’t used a station like yours but have done some indoor plant growing, if you want to not spend much money a regular white led light works just fine. If you plan to grow a lot a plug in led shop light like picrel might be the best bang for your buck (and get a cheap timer outlet so the light auto turns on and off)A couple things I’ve found though is it’s easy to give your plants too much light, and without a breeze the indoor plants tend to get very tall, so you might need to figure out supports and larger size pots eventually.

Do you live in a sealed-in high rise? Yes? Maybe this is your key. But if you're a normal person just grow a fucking plant in the dirt, that's how they do it naturally.
>>21101326I got one of those LED fixtures that had various color settings plus on-off cycles. It... sort of worked? I was able to get seedlings to germinate. BUT was was completely unable to grow anything to full scale inside, even in larger pots. Not tried it with herb stuff. Most of the shit you see online about growing hacks are 100% false. Big thing is plants are thirsty bastards, so realistically you want a hydroponics type setup where you flow water over the roots of shit you want to grow with like a fountain pump and shit. Overall I found growing shit to be a massive chore and waste of money. It's cheaper to buy shit from the store. Pro farmers do it better and cheaper, even the local farm-to-market ones with absurd prices. Cause you are looking at hundreds in capital costs from lights, soil, pots, seed starters, etc. Not worth it.
>>21101921Did you add plant food? I mean at a minimum plants need nitrogen, phosphorus, and "ash."I grow fancy rare exotic plants, I'm just trying to comprehend how you fucked up with your grow plan. What plants did you grow?

You can get cheap grow lights. that only cost $20 - $30. Even Harbor Freight sells grow lights.
>>21101927I havent grown anything here yet. I used to have basil cilantro and oregano but I moved to a place where the kitchen barely gets any sunlight at all
>>21101587No I dont have the space for picrel, the pots or the light station would be sitting in a corner of the kitchen counter, thats what im working with
yes but you need around 100 watts / sq m LED light (in vegetative growth spectrum) for leafy herbs. most kits / fixtures are closer to 30 watts and so grow things very slowly or not at all, and you get very leggy growth too. as others have mentioned, ventilation is important too.in short, having a purple supernova on your kitchen windowsill for 18 hours a day may be more trouble than its worth.
>>21101330Fpwp. Everything related to grow lights and hydroponics gets ruined by the Rick & Morty demographic. We used them for chili peppers in cold climates, which you might argue is equally reddit, but you'd be wrong. You don't even want to imagine the level of Beavis & Butthead level snickering encountered by our acquaintance the basement mycologist.
>>21102912what would you propose then? considering I have little space with very very low sunlight. A regular pot wont cut it
>>21102918it'll be high upfront capital investment, and you could consider looking into a small tent, but i imagine this is more space and effort than you wish to invest.are window boxes an option? is growing your herbs on a different window to the one in the kitchen an option?
>>21102930>is growing your herbs on a different window to the one in the kitchen an option? There is a nice window by the living room which I could use as a last resort yea. I would just prefer to have the herbs growing in the kitchen for practicality reasons
>>21102915> the basement mycologistlmfao
>>21102945unless you want a LOT of herbs, and are willing to invest time and money and space, my advice would be to start with the windowsill in your living room
>>21101326I would get a used aerogarden and use my own seeds. And maybe a mini grow tent or somewhere where the light won't spill into my living space. But as someone who has done some hydroponics it's literally not worth the effort unless you're cooking every day and need fresh herbs every time. Don't even think of wasting time growing spinach or some dumb shit you can buy a bag of for $4.
>>21101326i just stick stuff in my sunniest window and hope for the besti don't like that those things are a buttload of money for what is basically some cheap plastic and a light
>>21104623I really want to get going making plant tables with built in lights. A lot of chinsy stuff out there but I think I could kill it in the flat-pack game: Picrel I made no light but it rotates and has a drain in the middle
>>21101326I have one similar to this which I have in my kitchen. It works really well and I have a little herb garden going on it.
>>21106245that looks really sweet anon>>21106405how much did it cost
>>21107335I think including everything was $150ish
>>21102915>Rick & Morty demographic>Beavis & Butthead level snickering>>>/tv/ is that way, retard. this is /ck/ (we) don't use those faggy terms here

>>21107355go back, zoomzoom
>>21101326I use growlights to overwinter my potted citrus trees.
>>21107835
>>21101326You can use any white light led. You don't need to buy an expensive setup.
>>21107335Glad you like it, def will make a run of them in the spring
