Pâté Chinois (Shepherd’s Pie, Quebec-style)

Ingredients (serves 4)
500 g (1 lb) ground beef
1 onion, finely chopped
4 medium potatoes, peeled
30 g (2 tbsp) butter
100 ml (1/2 cup) milk (adjust for desired texture)
1 can of whole kernel corn (300 g / 10 oz)
1 can of creamed corn (300 g / 10 oz)
Salt and pepper, to taste
Instructions
Prepare the Mashed Potatoes

Boil the potatoes in salted water until tender (about 20 minutes).
Drain and mash them with butter and milk. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Set aside.
Cook the Meat

In a skillet, sauté the onion in a bit of oil until translucent.
Add the ground beef and cook, breaking it up into small pieces. Season with salt and pepper. Drain excess fat if necessary.
Assemble the Pâté Chinois

Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F).
In a baking dish, spread the cooked meat evenly across the bottom.
Add a layer of whole kernel corn mixed with creamed corn on top of the meat.
Cover with the mashed potatoes, smoothing the surface with a spatula.
Bake

Bake in the oven for 20 to 25 minutes, until the top is slightly golden.

This was basically what my mom made as a kid that she called shepherd's pie. Inferior to the real thing but it's still good sloppa

>put it all into an oven for 25 minutes
I always get a "does not compute" error before the last step. My kitchen refuses to follow this recipe.

Pass. I like mine with peas and carrots. It's probably fine but not for me.

Cottage and shepherd's pie are interchangeable in NA where you can't usually get sheep at the supermarket.

your kitchen sounds gay

Sounds good but do you ever replace the mash with French fries, curds, and beef gravy?
>>
so why is it called shepherds pie when it doesnt resemble shepherds pie at all?
>>
>>21104672
Because "chinese patty" would make even less sense
>>
>>21104624
To be fair in England they’re interchangeable.
Only seems to be foreigners who sperg out about it.

I'm not the one who was in charge of translating the name of the dish, sorry I guess

that is way too much corn, I use one can for 2 pounds of beef

I also put a can of peas and carrots in

It just told me that Shepherd's Pie is supposed to be made from leftovers. It still refuses to make it from scratch.
>>
>>21104067
Quebec should be fucking nuked, reduced to a glassy crater of uninhabitable waste
Sounds kind of tasty though, but too much corn
