What's the best US brand tortillas for making tacos? There's a million fucking options for no fucking reason and it's difficult choosing one that's large and stretchy
>>21108091Idk. Mission because that's the most popular.
>>21108091i make my own
Soft tacos are gay and gross
>>21108091If you don't mind cooking them yourself, you might be able to find refrigerated raw tortillas. Those were the best tasting ones I had from the store. Have to be careful when cooking them though or they can end up a little crispy which isn't great for folding. Might have to steam them after. All the shelf stable tortillas just have a funny taste after having freshly made tortillas.
>>21108091Mission is the wonderbread of tortillas in America. They aren't bad but you will probably get better bread for a cheaper price from the local bread brand. Where I live that's Mrs Baird's. It's the exact same with tortillas. There is probably a local company that makes better cheaper ones and your grocery store might make them fresh daily.
>>21108095This. Worth it.
my local tortilla market is heavily competitive so I've never bought shitty ones
>>21108112man. when we lived in austin we got el milagro tortillas religiously. now in maine we've just started making our own. i bought a small tub of manteca specifically for the job.
>>21108098yea, off the shelf is garbage. I just won't eat it. thankfully I live in texas so you can get them just about anywhere fresh. If you must buy prepackaged shit, I like to oil a pan with butter and put the tortilla on it for a bit. Gotta stop before it gets crunchy but it adds something to it.
>>21108095>>21108107Is it difficult? And how much better we talkin here?>>21108098>All the shelf stable tortillas just have a funny tasteThis. How can cheap ass taco bell have em without that taste? Last I remember at least
>>21108091I live in texas with a lot of taco spots (here a soft taco is just called taco). the only shelf brand I would ever buy is HEB brand where it's made freshly in the store and its in a special section. all the shelf brands will taste the same, may as well get the cheapest if that's your only option. you can also ask for fresh tortillas straight from the taco shop if you want better flavor.
these are some of the best grocery store tortillas I've seen anywhere
>>21108889>take lime soaked corn meal>press together into tortilla>put on hot pan>flip>voila
>>21108944Ok but how much better is it made by authentic brown hands?
>>21108091Just go to a local tortilleria that employs tons of OBESE mexican bitches. They know to make banger tortillas 99% of the time.
>>21108091buy something local with few ingredients and without preservatives. probably whatever has the shortest shelf life.
>>21108098>you might be able to find refrigerated raw tortillas. Those were the best tasting ones I had from the storeBased, I love cooking them until they’re crisp like a giant cracker
>tacos>large and stretchy torillaSomethings wrong here
>>21108098yeah they have this weird sour taste that creeps me tf out!!
La Banderita I usually buy they're nothing spectacular though.
Outside of specific varieties (soft corn vs soft wheat vs hard corn vs protein plus vs gluten free vs corn+wheat etc etc etc) it freshly made locally, I can't really tell the difference between brands so if I'm not making it myself, buying a few from the tortilleria or eating roti, I just get the cheapest available when I go. Most recently, that was Old El Paso. With coupons etc, I was able to get a pack of the gigantic ones, bigger than any other I'd ever seen, for 49¢.
