Going down to Philly next weekend. What are the best philly steak spots in 2025?
>>21109201Subway
just go to some shitty yelp hotspot, keep your mouth shut while you're there, and stop being such an annoying tourist you qt
>>21109201Angelo's is all the rage these days
>>21109201When I used to live there it was Chinks Steaks. I believe they’ve changed the name but those were the best I can remember
>>21109201First of all, congrats on visiting the city most famous for Silvester Stallone and AIDS.Philly has two spots for steaks, Pat's and Geno's. If anyone recommends another spot, they are a gay tryhard transplant trying to appear "local" (and double gay because this isn't NYC, why would you even try).As the name implies, Pat's is mostly a hangout for the Irish mob, real Peaky Blinders types, but if you can brave their complicated ordering system, then you can get one of the best traditional Irish Cheesesteaks out of Belfast. It's also a great place to get fentanyl and Asian ladyboys.Geno's, by contrast, caters to the more established Sicilian Mafia crowd, serving their cheesesteaks with mozz' and gabagool, and the "extracurricular activities" tend more toward black teenaged runaways and exotic designer drugs from Belgium (the drugs, not the blacks).Your best bet is going to McDonald's.
Not sure it's still there but there was a really good, super cheap truck at the northeast corner of Girard and Belmont. There's nothing else to do around there so it's not really worth it to go but when I lived in West Philadelphia and worked at the Montgomery county courthouse, it was only a minor detour on my way home from work.Outside of that, just about any pizza spot will have decent cheesesteak and there are places in University City that do weird takes on them, like Ethiopian cheesesteak (with berbere and using thick injera as a wrap) or Indian cheesesteak.
>>21109201Cafe Carmella. It's a hike up to the Northeast but worth it. If you don't feel like doing that you can't go wrong with John's or DiNic's. Angelo's is good but a bit of a meme. Do not be fooled into going to Delesandro's or Geno's. And honestly you can do worse than Pat's if that's what's around.>>21109491John's formerly Chink's was the best but they shut down the original spot and it just isn't the same. Still good but something got lost.
goddamn i could go for a cheesesteak right now
>>21109846>>21109491*Joe's these fuckin steak joints and their generic names
Jim'sTony Luke's Pats and Genos are fucking garbage.

>>21109860>Jim's After the fire they haven't hit the same.>Tony Luke's Garbo steaks but great cutlet sandwiches.
The cheesesteak at a random NYC local bodega is better than anything in the actual city of filthydelphia
Steve's prince of steaks

Pagano's on Ogontz ave. Go at lunchtime when its light outside.
I'm a baltimoron and went up to Philly a few years back with my fat alcoholic ex-gf (the ass was fat tho. It was literally the wojak banging the fat girl with the tapestries on the walls) to see Flogging Molly and Drop Kick Murphies. We wandered to a bar and I, drunk tourist I was, asked the first guy I struck up a conversation with where to get a good cheesesteak. He pointed me to fuckin Ishkabibbles. It's a greasy hole-in-the-wall that seats a dozen uncomfortably, but I stop by any time I'm up there and they've never disappointed.
>>21110128Why not both
>>21109201Honestly you can't get a good Philly cheese steak in Philly anymore, that place was overrun by transplants years ago, selling garbage knockoffs with "cheese wiz" and the wrong cut of beef which is frankly amazing consider it was already a cheap cut in the first place
>>21111231>IshkabibblesThe original ishkabibbles was right next door to Geno's, where the owners, a Romaniote and Italki Jewish couple (IE Greek and Italian rite Judaism, respectively) invented the chicken cheesesteak because Italki Judaism allows for mixing dairy with poultry and that area was, ouat, the Italian-Jewish, Greek-Jewish and Iberian-Jewish part of town. It was the first Jewish community in America. There's an old cemetery there with headstones reading shit like Shlomo Sanchez, Moshe Demetriou and Avram Di Rieti. The ishkabibbles you went to is owned by a chink and has practically nothing to do with the OG
>>21109873>Steakummyum
>fry up some onion and bell peppers>get thin sliced rib eye>cook it up in the pan with the veggies>kill the heat and layer with American cheese>cover the pan for a few minutes while I U-cut some rolls>perfect steak and cheese every timeWho needs to go to Philly?
>>21112219>and bell peppers>Who needs to go to Philly?you do
>>21112222>pepperletsDigits or not, I'll pass.
>>21112229hot or sweet peppers, not fucking bell peppers jesus christ why not add raisins too?
>>21109917More like Based-umms
>>21109531>As the name implies, Pat's is mostly a hangout for the Irish mob, real Peaky Blinders typesSounds kino as hell. I'll definitely hit them up.
>>21112116Neat! I had no idea there was so much history behind that place. I'm not big on chicken cheesesteaks, but I like the fact that they came about from dietary restrictions. Most innovations come from working within strict parameters and doing the most you can do with them, rather than unlimited budget and scope. That said, those chinks whip up a damn fine sandwich. Thanks for the lore dump, friend.
>>21109531>It's also a great place to get fentanyl and Asian ladyboys.i never thought I'd ever want to visit phily but man a cheesesteak sandwich followed by a ladyboy's bussy would really hit the spot rn
