What's the biggest culinary scam?

For me, it's buttermilk. Just mix some milk and lemon juice

Mixing lemon juice and milk to replace on buttermilk.
>>

If you want buttermilk pancakes right away you can throw a cup or two of cream into a stand mixer and get both buttermilk and butter. You’d need to strain the buttermilk from the butter if you plan to keep it but otherwise you can just use it all up that way
>>
>>21110310
That's not how buttermilk tastes.
>>
Just melt a stick of butter and put it in a halfgalon of milk
>>
>>21110310
real buttermilk is the liquid leftover from making butter.
>>
>>21110310
Buttermilk has a more complex flavor from being fermented. It's generally smoother too. It can work in batters and things like that but you probably couldn't use it for a dip or dressing.
>>
Baking powder.
>>
that's like saying sauerkraut is a scam and you should just mix cabbage and vinegar
>>
>>21110310
Oh it’s the dumbest thread I’ve heard today
>>
>>21110310
The biggest culinary scam is and always will be michelin star bullshit

Checkmate, Atheists!

>doesn’t know what buttermilk is

Polenta, can make it with a microwave in 12 minutes
>>
>>21111149
Then he took a fucking good guess because that's what it is
>>
>>21111163

You prefer the substitution? LOL, what a fag. It's not even close to the same thing. You don't even know what a scam is, fuckface.
>>

>low key

Fuck off, zoomer.
>>
>>21111166
The cultured buttermilk OP posted was made from fresh cream churned into butter
>>
>>21111166
Then why is the accusation >doesn't know what buttermilk is
>>
>>21111149
Even though I described exactly how you can get it? Kys
>>
Unsalted butter is a scam. Baking recipes call for it all the time and I never use it.
>>
>>21111290
I don't think you know what scams are
>>

Biggest is probably how much the organic “certification” groups make with no actual inspection requirements or verification.

Honorable mention to the kosher section at every grocery store that no one ever buys from.
