what are your thoughts on Balkan food?
>>
That's a lot of onion
>>
>>21112766
Where's the rice? The greens? What's with the orange slop? Also what the fuck is up with that plate? It looks like what an Ethiopian thinks people eat in the Balkans.
>>
>>21112791
t. American with a great great great grandparent from the balkans, last name Smith, professional on Balkans cuisine

Balkans food is inoffensive, I have no thoughts on it.
>>
>>21112766
Would

>what are your thoughts on Balkan food?
You picked a bad time to post Balkan anon, these are American hours and you will get comments about slop or 'it's really good - I'm 1/128 Balkan'

Don't worry, the rest of Europe gets it as well.
>>
>>21112809
obsessed
i was gonna ask what those sausages were made of, but now i'm going to say this:
lmao euros are so poor they eat turds and cat vomit with bread
i hope you're happy
>>
>>21112791
they don't eat much rice in the balkans do they?
>>
>>21112817
the dish is cevapi
>>
>>21112817
Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned, isn't that right Karen?
>>
>>21112766
It was pretty popular in the 50s-70s in Germany. Now it's all Greek restaurants and you rarely see old school Balkan grills. You fucked up pretty bad in the 90s though.
>>
>>21112817
Those aren't sausages anon. They're ground meat shaped like that. It can be beef, lamb, pork or whatever kind of meat like a meat patty or meatball but with a different shape.
>>
>>21112766
Our food isn't the most diverse and a lot of it is a remnant of our time subjugated by the Ottomans but I'd say it's quite good. If you go to a really high quality grill place the stuff you'll get can stack up with any other countries grilled meat imo. Stuff like sarma, fish soup etc is also homely and comforting. I think what is missing most from it is vegetables and dishes that have a lighter/fresher/punchier flavor profile with a good bit of acid. Most of our food is tavern style with a heavy flavor profile.

What is that, mici?

Pic related is an example of a mixed meat platter you can get at a tavern. Sausage, grilled pork, ustipci (it's kinda like cevapi but spicy with cubes of cheese and some sort of cured meat mixed into the mince) and smoked boneless pork ribs.
>>21112908
Cevapi in a turkish style bread called somun
>>
>>21112766
Never had it, but I'd try it.
>>
>>21112766
What are we looking at here
Meat with a pita
Barely cooked onion
Enormous lob of butter?
Pepper slop?
>>
>>21112766
Mostly pretty amazing. Lot's of oldschool meat
>>
I don't know much about it, but it seems relatively similar to Greek/Turkish/Lebanese/etc.
>>
>>21112766
It looks very ottoman/islamic/arabic. It has nothing to do with slavic cuisine.
>>
>>21112957
Forgot to name-drop turkey. In southeast europe, it's all turkish food, basically.
>>
>>21112915
>pepper slop
you can't judge slop by its image
that is actually the best thing they have (ajvar)
it is absolutely orgasmic, and too few people know its glory
>>
>>21112966
I actually had no idea what it was and what it’s consistency was like, so slop was the best I could come up with. Paste maybe?
Either way, sounds good.
>>
>>21112826
they eat a ton of it, because they're all half arab or muslim or whatever
>>
>>21112766
I really like lutenitsa, kebapche (when done well), tripe soup and shopska salad, but really dislike any balkan dishes that include cabbage and potatoes (including most of their soups) since they always taste and smell like shit and piss
>>
>>21112766
I feel like you'd need a lot more bread an a lot less raw onion.
>>
>>21112766
serious question OP, how is one meant to eat this? Is the sandwich a lone component? I would make mini sausage wraps with onion and paprika veggie sauce, and be left with a still considerable pile of onion and mysterious white puffy thing, but that's just me.
>>
>>21112766
>dry-ass breakfast links in a dry pita
>an entire raw onion
>a wad of... what is that? cream cheese? ricotta?
>a dollop of either Gerber strained carrots or the shit of a baby that ate Gerber strained carrots

Yeah, the Balkans can go fuck themselves.
>>
>>21113358
>let me lash out at something because I'm retarded and don't know what I'm talking about
>>
>>21112766
needs more onion
>>
>>21112835
the hell is ground meat? they growing meat in the balkans?
>>
>complaints about raw onion
what peoples on this earth don't like onion?
