I bought a jar of fresh sauerkraut (non pasteurised) at the store and I noticed at home that there’s some orange residue under the lid in each part that touches the glass of the jar, also the jar leaked some of the juice since it’s under pressure and the top of the lid is a bit swollen.I am a bit paranoid about rust and botulism, so do you reckon that it’s safe to eat or should I discard everything? The jar is clearly unopened as there’s the intact seal.
>>21113996It's overhang. When they were packing it some of the product was hanging out of the jar when the lid went on, through travel and distribution the stuff hanging out has dried and crusted over. There shouldn't be a problem with botulism, but no use risking contamination when you open it, return it and get a different one.
>>21114004Shit I was looking forward to eat it. :(Well at least I only lost 3.40€ (can’t return it). Thanks
I went back to the store and the only jar there’s left had one spot like that. Hmm.Well, I tossed mine away for precaution but I will write to the producer.
i put it there :)
>>21114136Sucks bro but better safe than sorry
