I never understood the appeal of espresso. Faggots will drink espresso shots and pretend like it tastes good. The only use for the espresso shot, in my opinion, is as a concentrated shot for making coffee based drinks.

I'm just puzzled why a macro roaster would grind their coffee so fine, and I'm not hating the turkish style cup I made, I'm actually looking up to brew more because the pot is easier to clean than the moka.

really well made, well designed, small burrs can beat mid big burrs

I half listened to the quan video. They were bitching about some potential compatibility but I don't think they were actually swapping shit in that day.
>What makes 64mm a joke compared to 80mm?
The coffee. I've tried a fair amount of aftermarket 64mm(brew,mp,LSv1 and 2, gorillagear, odev2) and fewer 80mm/98mm. I like the coffee off my (wug'd and very well aligned) 80mm Ditting lab sweets (and others Weber ULF) significantly more. I don't know if its a size/grinding path distance thing or not but 98HU is significantly better 64MP despite being the same geometry. Coffee is weird. If p64s were more available at the time I might have gotten stuck with one over the Wug. Zerno was taking money at the time but had not shipped or shown a single unit other than the prototype.

I've been trying to get into pour-overs the last year or two, and I've never managed to get a result I'm perfectly happy with. I'm getting a different monthly light roast from Trade, a KitchenAid grinder I got as a gift, set to anywher between mid-drip setting to an espresso setting (I don't know if the numbers mean anything or correspond to an actual measurement) a ceramic v60 I preheat with steam, some no-name unbleached filters off amazon, and a stovetop gooseneck kettle that I let go to 100C. I use Hoffman's v60 technique, with 12 grounds to 250g of water.

It just comes out muddy and indistinct, I've never gotten a hint of the tasting notes, though sometimes if I forget to finish it, and finish it after its cooled to room temperature, there's some more complex flavors, but also an unpleasant woody taste.

What's the weak link? Me?

Consider all of that Trade money completely thrown away. Buy a $30 Zerohero on ebay
>itm/397024393272
or a $99 Kingrinder K6 on amazon immediately. Come back in two weeks.
>>
>>21652971
It was better than what I had before, and I have other stuff from them that works great. Is that grinder a well-known dud or something? The family member who bought it for me got one for themselves too, and I don't want them stuck with garbage either.

>>21652976
>Consider all of that Trade money completely thrown away.
Well, yeah, that's kind of how consumables work, but I don't think that's what you mean. They aren't exactly shipping me folgers, so what's the issue? Is there another marketplace like them you'd recommend instead?
>>
>>21652991
buy a k6 like the other guy said
and hes saying the money was essentially thrown away because using such a shit grinder has ruined any taste they may have had
the grinder is THE MOST IMPORTANT PART OF MAKING COFFEE
or if you dont want a hand grinder buy a DF54
any money you have spent up to this point would have been better spent on a good grinder
>>
>>21652861
if it tastes good it isn't a meme
>>
>>21652998
Oh, okay, that makes more sense. That had me worried that I was buying shit coffee for years without knowing it. I'm fine with a hand grinder, so I'll give the K6 a shot, but I'm just curious what the issue with this one grinder is.
>>
>>21652998
He's either retarded or its bait. I don't care to help further at this point.
>>
>>21653008
I will absolutely admit to being an idiot on this subject, which is why I'm asking. I just bought the damn K6, and even some brand-name bleached filters, since that other anon seemed to think that as a problem, I just want to know what the problem is. What makes this one so much better?
>>
>>21652127
try a good roast
i think a black cup of coffee is very forgiving even when using 2 year old supermarket beans
an espresso you will spit out with the same beans
>>
>>21653007
>but I'm just curious what the issue with this one grinder is.
well for 1 saying "a KitchenAid grinder" without specifying essentially tells me everything i need to know.
it could be a dozen different models
i cant see the burrs anywhere so i have no idea
there is 1 that i can see that is $250 which if thats the one you have is a scam
its a much cheaper grinder that is being sold at a higher price to fool ignorant shoppers
https://youtu.be/hpjGfpN4y7w?si=ykyNrTndsT2vEOga&t=285
this grind size distribution is a mess
fines out the ass at every level
dogshit consistency
fines are what causes your "muddy and indistinct" coffee.
>>
>>21653001
How is it compared to regular coffee? I'm curious mostly about the grounds since they're not filtered.
>>
>>21653036
Yeah, that looks like it, just in a different color. I didn't see a model number or anything on the bottom label, so I figured they only made one model.
>cheaper grinder that is being sold at a higher price to fool ignorant shoppers
Ugh, that tracks actually. The family member who got it for me got recommended it by another family member who is well-off, but loads the hopper with storebought starbucks beans. Disappointing that he got taken in like that.
>fines out the ass at every level
>fines are what causes your "muddy and indistinct" coffee.
Yeah, that explains things. Even on french press settings, there's still grit that gets through, and I gave up using a chemex knock-off with a steel filter because I ended up having to throw away the last couple mouthfuls of the cup because it was full of dust.

Thanks for the explanation.

Mediums & Lights should be done high temp and finer for the fruit. Go for fermented stuff to be wowed. Play with grind settings. I have more luck with French Press (Hoffmann style) while doing the bloom sequestering (even 1/5 to 1/3 the volume)

I am Canadian, and I thought the listed notes were weird too. I honesty can't tell what they mean by herbal since they're pretty much charred and I don't get many notes beyond that and diner coffee. I'm in the maritimes so local selection is already worse than a lot of places before even factoring decaf, but I forgot how bad it could get. At the very least it's a reminder that I'm not doing a bad job at roasting. I'll probably just not drink coffee for a week or two if I lapse in my roasting cycle again.
