Why is this shit sour?
90 clicks, 92C, submersion for 4 min

Is it supposed to taste this way? First sips are not bad it's only when I get to the bottom where it gets very sour.
>>
>>21676598
Oh and I used 225G of water

Grocery store verve gets another one.
>>
>>21676598
as far as i know, light roasts need higher temps (97C)
also try grinding finer, i use ~50 clicks for my v60 cups (same grinder)

Reee I was told to buy local
Anyways, when does coffee go stale?
Best by date is in January and it had the roast date in some weird Julian date format which according to that it was roasted on August 13th
>>
>>21676640
Best by dates on coffee are typically 1 year out from the roast date. Verve could be different.
>>
>>21676640
>local
just means not brands
like if a roaster is the next state over but only has like 1-2 roasting locations thats "local"
also you bought a light roast
which
1: harder to brew especially for noobs
2: have a higher chance of being sour(this could be a good thing and your palate is simply undeveloped and you are interpreting a good flavor as sour)

Made some coffee this morning in a camping percolator because I didn't like how our coffee maker's hot plate would give the coffee a burnt taste.

Did I finally hit a city roast or do those few darker beans disqualify me?
>>
>>21676754
>city roast
these terms are meaningless
to me(if the lighting isnt too biased) looks like a medium/light
but to someone else this could be very light or just medium
as long as its not oily you're good.
>>
>>21676667
You can do better, Anon.

agtron numbers are not meaningless

Been buying 3-4 bags of 8-12oz but I decided to get a 2lb bag this time around. I hope it's great.

Segregate the light from the dark beans and sell individually. :)

Don't know I'm gonna wait a few days for them to degas. It's supposed to be a candy sweet anaroebic so hopefully it's good but it's giving me serious red bourbon vibes from the smell and while I like red bourbon I was hoping for a different kind of flavor

i should try making coffee kombucha
>>
>>21676883
I've done it. Doesn't work too well. Very little preservation of flavor, just makes lightly browned acetic acid water. Use decent puer instead.
>>
>>21676885
how did you make it? if it's lightly browned, then you didn't brew it before hand did you?
>>
>>21676895
Strained cold brew, flash brew, and hot brew cooled down to room temp(covered to minimize oxidation). Save yourself the hassle and skip it. Try a nice roasty oolong or something instead.
>>
>>21676901
so did the color change to be lighter after the fermentation?
>>
>>21676883
Coffeebooch is gem
>>
>>21676923
> Very little preservation of flavor, just makes lightly browned acetic acid water
I'm referring to "brown" as a flavor, not the color of the kombucha. It seemed to strip any notes you'd expect to come through. Didn't try it with any fucked up coferments though.
>>
>>21676938
oh okay. i don't care if it tastes less like coffee. in fact, i have enough experience to know that what comes into a fermentation is not what will come out of it. i just want an interesting caffeinated soda without putting caffeine powder into it
>>
>>21676948
So make coffee soda?
https://youtu.be/f1vmP-QAA8Y
>>
>>21676955
force carbonating doesn't give me the "interesting" part that comes from bacterial byproducts and transformation. people come up with all sorts of fermentation routines for coffee berries, so maybe i can find something that works good with the brewed coffee
>>
>>21676837
>do something stupid
>hey that's stupid
>bruh u got rage baited
No you're just a child entertained by other children.
>>
>>21676971
The interesting part of kombucha is the flavor. It seems like you just want to make some caffeinated tonic that'll make you shit your pants at record speed and velocity, regardless of the flavor.
>>
>>21676992
yes perhaps you are right. i remember drinking ginger kombucha and getting some kind of nootropic boost from that alone. i want to know what feelings i will get from a shot of caffeinated kombucha
>>
>>21676998
>drinking ginger kombucha
Now I could see making a coffee tincture and using that to flavor a ginger bug being interesting.
>>

based. do you buy yours from a local chinese medicine shop or online?
>>
>>21677024
>legal age.
not something you're familiar with.
>>
>>21677082
If you have no Chinese stores near you, you can always buy Bronkaid/Primatene, it's behind-the-counter at pharmacies similar to Sudafed where they make sure you're not buying like 7 boxes to make into meth
>>
>>21677146
i don't think that is a good idea. if they require ID to sell those, then they will quickly find out that you do not have a respiratory problem and put you on a watch list
>>
>>21677135
God I wish, the things I could warn my young self to avoid. I certainly wouldn't be wasting my time here if I had made better life choices that's for sure.

Well I mean if you're taking multiple a day daily, not looking for an occasional ephedrine lift. Anyway you can't even get that stimmed off those tbf, they contain guaifenesin so unless you're competent at doing extractions I wouldn't recommend going over ~1g of guaifenesin

t. personal pharmacological experience
>>
>>21677158
no i mean that you are cooked from your first purchase because they can reference your medical history from your ID

Well I have well documented lung problems going back 20 years and just visited an allergist a few weeks ago, so I guess that's just a problem for people with healthy lungoids like you :^)
>>
>>21677170
anyways, i will see if my town has a chinese shop around. i have a feeling that none of them would stock it though
>>
>>21677154

>>
>>21677178
That's the smarter move. I've tried there and they gave me a packet rather than the plant. I just want to try Mormon tea how they did out west 150 years ago, is that too big a thing to ask
>>
Whoever said the Zp6 comes unscrewed while grinding is a dummy. You just didn't put it on good enough.
>>
>>21677193
i heard that the ephedra variety that the mormons drank is not very potent compared to the chinese varient. i guess that's why crackheads haven't went and dug all of those wild plants up

What's wrong with my pot? It makes me feel like a old fashioned and the brew comes out smooth. I think assembling it is also pretty fun.
