Should I go for
>single origin
>pink bourbon
>meme taste notes: red currant, floral, orange
or
>holiday blend
>ethiopian local heirloom and pink bourbon
>extra memey taste notes: cherry strudel, orange marmalade, pound cake
>>

espresso or filter?
>>
>>21748045
why not both?
>>
>>21748045
I don't like blends unless I am making them on the spot myself. Its too hard to dial in when the amount of each bean per dose changes every time.
>>
>>21748045
Get the holiday blend now and the single origin next time.
>>
>>21748050
Competent roasters will blend the greens prior to roasting.
>>
>>21748054
Nothing more I love in my blends than all components roasted equally shitty.
>>
>>21748059
retard
>>
>>21748054
Its the opposite. Competent roasters know every bean needs to be treated differently to get the most out of it. Regardless it still doesn't change the fact that you end up with an unknown amount of each in every dose.
Even if you take OPs example an ethiopian and a PB, roast them exactly the same, they will still need to be dialed in differently. Its silly to say they were roasted together so everything else is the same too.
>>
>>21748064
Yeah, that makes sense. I was under the impression that >>21748050 was talking about blends where the beans are at completely different roast levels, which is pretty common from sub-par roasters.
>>
>>21747965
>meme answer
That $20 battery powered zerohero grinder that Espresso Outlet has on his ebay page. I have no clue why he thought it was a good idea to buy a bunch of those.
>non meme answer
Eureka filtro. You have to do a couple of mods to it, namely removing the declumper, replacing the stock power button with a rocker switch, getting a tilted base, and installing some bellows. But Eureka basically uses the same drive system on all their grinders so the filtro should be spec'd for light commercial use. It's more robust than the df54, but the df54 is a turnkey system.

Thanks. Bit of both, my wife likes cappuccino (learning to do milk art would be cool) I like my espresso neat or with ~1 oz water as a quad long black. Speaking of that, how worried should I be about pulling back to back shots? Some machines are more convenient for that right? Something about water coming up to temp, pumps, idk

Amazon.ca doesn't have much it seems. The only manual grinder I see there that isn't overpriced and would be worthwhile is the Timemore S3 for $160. Minus that you're probably better off getting something from a Canadian dealer like Rogue Wave, Cafune, or Eight Ounce. They seem to have various good grinders at fair prices, like a Q-air for $70.

I think he just doesn't like espresso but that's where the money is so he has had to cope with "tea like espressos" and all the soup bullshit.
It seems like he genuinely thinks everyone who drinks espresso has joined that discord server he content farms from and everyone has moved on to soup shots not realizing he has cultivated an echo chamber of only that. The vast majority of espresso drinkers are still drinking traditional espresso.

hi lance
>>
The year is 2026. The term "espresso" has been lost to human history. Brewing soup at over 2 bars is banned worldwide. Statues of Gaggia have been pulled down by the masses, and now Lance stands proud in bronze, gazing out over every café. Lady Liberty holds an OXO™ Rapid Brewer.
Meanwhile, a man's hand slips on his lever machine, and the foamy horror that results drives him to suicide. His body is put out to sea, where the crushing pressure of the ocean's depths consume him.
His family covers their eyes, as his innards form a foul crema upon the surface of the water. Somewhere, Lance laughs.

What's up, coffeefags! I'm back.
The "get my wife off shitty Monster/Starbucks project was successful. Now I got a decent job again and, Jesus willing, I'll be able to afford bougie shit again.

New project. Need a system for her to make her own coffee while I'm working like a cotton slave.

Forget what you know about what makes coffee good. I've been feeding her 28g of natural or honey processed beans ground really fine. Pour over hario 275ml 175f water through the cheapest hario filters on Amazon into 225g ice. Mixed with 120ml whole milk and 20g simple syrup made from cane sugar.

This doesn't have to be the new product she makes for herself. She started the process of squeezing all the water out of the filter to get ever last drop, so I'm thinking I need to buy an espresso machine since maximum extraction is her obsession. She really really wants the caffeine. Also it's time to get a real grinder. Doing every cup by hand made sense when I was an unemployed bum. I don't have time to do that now and I won't be there. Shelf space in the kitchen is limited. She will totally drink hot coffee, but the cold fits her absent minded lifestyle better. Espresso might be too small volume for her enjoyment, but you back always water it down, right?
What do ya got?
>>
>>21752398
I hate to say it but just get a superauto at this point.
>>
>>21748882
Garbage, all of these.
>>
>>21752398
>Jesus
what's your gardener got to do with this?
>>
>>21752411
>Super auto
That's a category I see, not a model. She doesn't want to do it that way. She wants them separate units. Not having automatic digital features that can crap out is more important than shelf space. If it was entirely up to me I'd want a pure analog setup. She is open to the simplicity, but she's worried about durability. Modern touch screen shit breaks.
I think we want to go with a separate grinder.
She doesn't want fancy milk drinks. She'd be fine with filter coffee, cream and sugar more that it's winter. The cold stuff was more for summer and leaving the house anyway.
I'm not sure she'd really notice the difference between espresso and filter coffee from fresh beans with a good grind. I like espresso better, but I'm not going to be home that much so it's not a big deal.
>Superauto
And fuck you! Now I'm missing Paul Harrell again and I'm sad!

She can, honestly. I've been doing it for months and maybe I want a shot in the morning and grinding out 30g really fine takes a solid 2 minutes. That doesn't seem like a lot, but when you're getting ready for work it's so annoying. Now if I want to quit my soda shop Pepsi (150 calories per can) and maybe do a shot of espresso that's another 2 minutes. Also I know her. As time goes on she'll get sick of hand grinding and put it off and get grumpy from caffeine withdrawal. Then she'll associate grinding with the withdrawal and come to hate doing it. Then she'll put of making her own coffee even longer next time. It will become a feedback loop. You learn these things about a person after 20+years.
Also, it's been months. I can justify buying an electric grinder now. It's not like we won't use it.

No, you just acted like a little bitch because I didn't do exactly what you said. You're delusional like Eric Cartman. Did you save me from the jewbots next?

>>21752650
I just see bad stories about "df64coffee" dot com's bad CS. Kitchen barista looks legit. It's a sad day when the response from an actual indian is preferable over a bot. And since a third party sent me a turin v3 when I ordered a v2 this is a concern then might just send the white one anyway if they are a drop shipper. It looks like they might have physical inventory tho. Allegedly some redditor has been there.
>>
I want to add that it sucks I can't just go buy a quality grinder at this price point from a physical store.

Turin sent you a Turin grinder. Turin is Espressooutlet's white label. They don't make things. You were trying to buy a comandante clone and bought a fake ghost burr grinder instead. Make sure you pay them extra for titanium this time.

Yeah, the cheapest Hario filters on Amazon. After using the t90's, the Hario that came with the v60 and the generic ones that came with the chinesium kettle, I found that asking my wife blind she couldn't tell the difference and the t90's gave me the least consistent extraction going by the shape of the grounds. The unbleached generic filters actually worked the most consistent, but the difference was negligible to the end product.
As for the grinder, I used the link I got from here and they sent the wrong one. People were interested and I took it apart and tested it. It did exactly what I needed and I like the magnetic catch cup with the screw on bottom and the Hershey's kiss shaped thing. It was great and I had fun.
>Make sure you pay then extra for titanium
Allegedly it's easier to clean the oils that you get from the natural and honey processed beans. I will.
I'm probably going to just go to target and get the bambino. She might just prefer to go back to filter drip or whatever.

I really tried to like it. I just couldn't get into it. I can see why it's popular, but it just felt awkward and messy when I tried it.

I got my lelit bianca on Friday and have been overcome with an overwhelming dread. Maybe it's a little bit of imposter syndrome that I own something this nice. I cannot escape the feeling that this is gluttonous and unnecessary, and totally horrible on a spiritual level. I was equally satisfied (probably more) with the espresso I was getting out of my flair classic - the manual process was more fun and I did not have the mental burden of the setup's financial cost. It's not that I didn't have the money for this setup, it's comfortably within my means, but the principle of the whole thing is killing me. I'm taking it back tomorrow and I'll get something smaller, maybe a cafelat robot, after the holidays and after I settle down. Anyone else here emotionally autistic?
>>
>>21752885
The coffee isn't your problem. You shouldn't feel guilty for having something nice.
That being said, if you aren't getting anything out of it and can get your money back do it and think of it no more.
>>
I just realized the niche zero is UK and subject to tariffs. I was holding off on the df64 because the niche seems more durable maybe, but I don't want to fuck with them if they don't have an American distributor.
>>
>>21752898
I'm a Christian and admit that the guilt is likely derived from that. It's hard to want to live a modest, simple life, and then walk downstairs every morning to a literally blindingly shiny machine on the counter. It's a wonderful product, truly a piece of art, but getting this deep into a hobby really backs me into an existential corner and I have to get out. I've felt similar things about audio equipment.

Just get a flair58. My first batch unit has been flawless for like 4ish years now? Also moved up from a flair signature I used for years. The only thing I'd replace it with would be a Decent at this point and I really don't n e e d it like you don't need the bianca.

After studying the bambino and bambino plus, I got to wonder if it's worth $150 for the 3 way solenoid. I'm thinking not. Either I'll stop using it or replace it with something much better with 58mm or whatever.
But now I'm wondering if I should forget espresso (for now at least) and just buy a quality drip filter machine.

>>21752997
Word. I'm putting off buying that Ruger for this. Until I get EDC earpro sorted I'm not carrying magnums in a vehicle anyway.
>>21752998
If this isn't clear, I mean the grounds in the filter after extraction. There's evidence of bypass with the t90s. The grounds in the cheaper filters settled more evenly. It's not a big difference.
I don't know why your would greentext this without response unless you didn't understand what I meant.

I'm thinking this now. This will be enough for her for one day. I can fine tune the temperature. I was looking at the mocha master but it's fixed at 195f and that might actually be too hot for her.
It's has the removable tank. I do hear that it's hard to clean and you know that hoffmene doesn't use his enough to care.
This and the df64 v2 I'm thinking.
>>
>>21753278

>>21753283

It does occur to me I don't need an espresso grinder if I go this route.

>>
>>21753349
She's developed a strong positive association with the taste of natural or honey processed coffee. Pic related is available nearby and scratches the itch.

I went with all 3. The df64 v2 from miicoffee because they had it in black, the technivorm mocha master 10 cup thermal from crate and barrel because it was marked down to $241, and the bambino from Macy's because it was marked down and I had points on that card and I don't shop there very much.

I figured that either I'll get into espresso and replace the bambino with a 58mm larger machine or I will use it a few times and decide I don't like it and in either case I got a couple people who spend too much on barista coffee I can give it to.
And the important thing is, my wife can one button brew a pot just like before when she was using a KitchenAid and community coffee grounds. She broke the canned monster/starbucks addiction and the last time she bought one when she was out she said it tasted like shit and couldn't finish it.

See you wonderful fucking people in a week or two when I'm trying to figure things out. (Most likely just the bambino. The others seem piss easy to operate. That was the point.)

How's it like importing ebay US goods into Canada? The Espresso Outlet ebay page has a battery powered zerohero grinder for $20 which will be a significant step up from the Kingrinder P series in both build quality and user experience. Probably very similar in grind quality to the P2 since they both have that c40 style burr design.

Just ordered Gooseneck kettle and some Hario v60 dripper, I need to buy Timemore again because it's the cheapest electric kettle with temp control.

Any shipment valued at under $40 cad coming from the US should be covered by deminimis covering both duty and taxes. It should be fairly simple if you don't need to mess around with those (there shouldn't be duty on that regardless) and the retaliatory tariffs should not apply on 8509.40 as of September 1st and would have only applied if it was made in the states. It should be easy but will be a shit show to import.

It and Hawaiian Kona are the quintessential boomereque 2nd wave coffees. Considered good in a time where all coffee was stale preground trash and "coffee people" bragged about how dark and strong they love their coffee and how they always use a (blade) grinder to grind their "fresh" (two+ year old) whole bean Kona or JBM.
Its now kept alive by said boomers and gullible Gen X and Millennials who don't know any better. It has none of the hallmarks of good or even decent coffee.
Like Italians it once dominated the scene but they refused to adapt to the changing market.

I'd like some recommendations for coffee subs in canada. I've tried a bunch and found coast to coast coffee was the cheapest (?) but lacked flavour. pilot is pretty good but keeps getting more expensive and i fucking hate walking into their coffee stores. I've tried all kinds of roasts and thankfully my favourite flavour is like a light medium roast with fermented fruit or whatever so any fresh medium roast is palatable to me. in fact as long as the beans are fresh I'm fine with the coffee. I'd like to hear other anons' experiences with coffee subs and check them out.
>>21752698
it sounds like you have a passion for coffee but your wife just enjoys the drink casually. you should look into an easier method for your wife to make coffee. I just give mine a hand grinder and let her use it for about a minute to get a coarse grind and then slam that into a moka pot. add milk any which way afterwards- cold with ice for an iced coffee kind of drink, or heated for a warm 'drip' coffee type of drink. syrup to taste obviously, but she can always just scoop in some sugar into the hot espresso if she's lazy. otherwise i just make a bunch of cold brew for her. basically the process should be so easy you could do it while drunk out of your gourd and have just been injected with a shitload of horse tranquilizer at the same time. i could be reading your post wrong but if you think she's going to get bored then you should simplify the process. also the brown filters have a bit of a nasty taste associated with them, you want the white ones.

I just got a grinder, scale, and whole beans for the first time.

I don’t understand. Is it really 10 grams of coffee per “coffee cup” (6 fl oz) or is it 10 grams for an actual cup measurement (8 fl oz)? Either way I tried filling up my Mr Coffee with the former and it was overflowing with grounds. Am I REALLY supposed to use so much grounds for each cup? It seems shocking because this is the amount of coffee I used to use when brewing a full carafe.

nobody in here has any idea what you are talking about
please give the context and information required to help you
we are not in your walls, we dont know you.

from what i can see for a "mr coffee"(are there multiple sizes idk)
>The most precise method is to use a ratio of 1 gram of coffee for every 16 grams of water
so idk you do the math on that one.

i dont use a "mr coffee" i just brew with a v60 and i use between 15 and 20g of ground coffee for 300ml of coffee yield in my cup.

also your use of imperial and metric makes my head hurt
choose 1 and stick to it.
i recommend using metric, grams to be precise as everything you will ever use in relation to coffee will be in grams
and 1g of coffee = 1ml of coffee so no need to use ml when talking about the liquid coffee(but you can if you like or if you really think it is relevant, such as the size of a cup eg, "300ml cup")

Mignon libras are $800. Stiles are about $750. Zf64ws are about $800. One of them is a good grinder. Guy didnt mention that he was able to get shitty italian grinders for half off.

Getting some pretty good results with 50/50 percolation/immersion on the switch, but I'm curious if there are any full immersion recipes that compare?

You can ship libras to the states for 500eur but its a grey market product and you don't get a warranty from dodging the US distributor.

How bad of an idea is this portable nespresso machine?
The battery has enough juice to heat water for 5 shots.
All the reviews I've seen says it does ok with capsules but adding your own grounds is hit or miss, it's also $20.

Apparently those are getting decent. Probably not the $20 ones though. I believe people really like the new cera+ PCM03S-MAX but it looks like they're aliexpress only for now.

Whatever recipe you're doing, just immerse the percolation phases as well.

no changes to timing or anything?

One variable at a time. Taste and note the difference after each change.

I've found three coffee shops now that literally ape the aesthetic of single origin stores while selling repackaged blends for exorbitant prices - no roast dates, no sourcing, just misleading tasting notes to make it seem like they're single origin. One place literally sells repackaged Cafe Vita stuff for 55 buckaroos. I don't know if I should be disgusted at the exploitation or disgusted at how the gouging seems to be working
