How do I cope with the fact that I got my K6 grinder late and I'll forever be a straight-handlecel?
Coffee? It's good for me
I'm on my last bag, the lychee co-ferment from hydrangea. Excited for the new beans coming in.
Anyone know where I can get this glass or something similar?

I’ve had a stunning realization that has shaken my world. I’m a virulent racist and I love coffee. After much reflection on the matter, I’ve come to face the undeniable truth that in the processing of my coffee likely dozens of shitskin hands have touched my beans. Is there anyway to wash my coffee beans to ensure that there is no longer any shitskin skin cells on them while also not stripping the coffee of its flavor/oils/aroma?Need advice.
I ordered some nice new beans and the coffee is tasty but I can't tell the difference between them. If there was something wrong with the brews that demanded a change in parameters that would be one thing, but idk what to do to distinguish them.
>>21828495Nobody can taste any difference between any of the brand. Everyone he is paring“ohhhh I taste custard and brulee’d mango”No they don’t. They’re pseuds. Don’t fall for the meme anon.
Qrd what do I buy for an espresso machine on a $500 budget? I already have a Baratza Encore ESP grinder. A bambino? I previously had like a $130 Amazon espresso machine and realized I was never properly making espresso for like 4 years. Also I drink like 12 shots a day is that too much

As a bonus: coffee is one of the most dehumanizing industries for thirdies, so by continuing to support the industry I am further oppressing them.
>>21828559its only really dehumanizing on big estate farms in, say, brazil and vietnammost specialty producers take great pride in their workso youre only oppressing anyone if you buy commodity garbage

Pour-over. Ive read the guides ... hario v60, scale with timer and ratios ... Regardless of heat, measurement, or method, coffee comes out either too weak or too bitter. Many different grind sizes and blends, different water ... is a pour-over just not the task if I want that deep smoky roasted flavor from a cafe? Will i be doomed to chasing espresso machines? Even starbucks produces a good toasty black cup. Help me /ck/

>>21828886Where in japan? I was just there and have some freinds living there or who work with cafes and roasters. I've got some great recs for places if you need beans or help. They also are mainly lighter roast pourover places (Kalita or Hario/v60)
The Yemeni people have been hiding mufawar coffee from you. Today as a 27 year old white boy, I learned that cardamom is king.
>>21828895Aomori prefecture. I get a lot if my stuff from kaldee since they usually have a good bean selection and are close by. I think im running into more of a process/technique problem than a resources problem tho
>>21828886>Is the only difference pouring steadily into the middlehttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p7PiHWuPbTIno, you also have to grind much coarser.
>>21828908oh wow, that's been on my list to visit, quite enjoy the north.I'd agree try tweaking grind size and temp in that order first. I enjoy brighter and really had to go finer than I thought to make it shine. If you're already using dark coffee, osmotic isn't bad. I use a switch and appreciate the immersion aspect which can make it easier overall to get right
So uuuhI have a filter coffee machineWhat the heck is the ratio of cup to coffee grounds and how finely ground should they be
>>21828946>ratio of cup to coffee groundsthere probably is something written in the manual saying it, if not you can just do a brew without coffee and measuring how much water it comes out and work with that>how finely ground should they bego by taste
I can't wait to make flat whites tomorrow :)
>>21828996>whites
Do you brew with flat bottom drippers differently from cone drippers?
since this was a problem some people faced in the last thread and in this one, ill say:if you are not telling the difference between two coffee beans that are from wildly different regions/process, it's probably that your water is too hard and/or has too much bicarbonatetry getting water (bottled or making your own) with hardness below 80ppm and bicarbonate between 30-50ppm, if bicarbonate is below that it will probably be too sour, this will 90% of the cases solve the problemboth cups might taste like shit, but tasting equal is a water problem most of the time

Never ordered from S&W before, give me some recommendations. I'm looking to buy three coffees from them
>>21824487Don’t get caught up in the claritymaxxing meme. You made the right choice with the K-ultra at a great price. It’s the best overall general purpose hand grinder out there, maybe sans the M01 now but that’s debatable. At least in burgerland, I've never seen a K-ultra go lower than the $207 amazon holiday sale price. It’s worth the price premium over the K6. Better build quality, better ergonomics (straight handles fucking suck), better burr quality, burr stability and alignment (Izpresso is one of the only companies that secures the ring burr with grub screws so you can manually adjust the alignment to get it super good), magnetic catch cup so you’re not brushing grinds out of screw threads all the time. It’s a staple grinder that you keep for everyday general usage and maybe complement with a more specialized “high clarity” grinder like the ZP6 for those occasions that you are looking to brew really lightly roasted washed beans. >>21825683>>21825924The ode sucks. Its basically a flat burr encore in that it has zero burr stability. I always laugh when people try to align these pieces of shit. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i5jeyF1u01k
>>21828066Buy a curved handled K1 on Aliexpress and swap it out. You now also have another grinder.

After using my Bambino for about a month now, I already want to upgrade into high tech gear. An automatic grinder would be nice as well.

I think I've ruined coffee for myself by buying $30 bags at a roastery. I drank some keurig coffee at the vet the other day and it just tasted like hot sugar water.

>>21829150>>21829102as an australian this made me laugh because this is (except the roast profile and wet aroma ) usually the information that is displayedGRANTED not literally on the bag, usually on the website, but it looks like they took a screenshot of the web page and stuck it on the bag.on the website i want as much information as possible. on the bag i want similar stuff but more succinct/ split between the front and back of the bag. OR a plain bag and a separate card with this information.also there are way too many "notes" on that bag.wet + dry + characteristics + sensory? that feels like filler.

At what price point do you stop paying for the coffee’s quality and instead start paying for the pseudo-intellectual pretentious dick waving?
does anyone actually enjoy the 'soup' stuff? seems a bit memeyman though, I want to talk to producers about the science behind their harvests and weather effects on profiles
>>21830391I feel like coffee is filled with a lot of pretentiousness where everyone has to pretend to like whatever the latest soytuber Redditor told them to like less they want to be viewed as being behind the curve.
>>21830379don't think it's that deepthere's only so much of the coffee, customers with lots of disposable income will compete to drink it, so the price is high. if you check the other beans, they sell out, they're gonna sell outthe increase in quality from nonspecialty to something like counter culture is probably less than the jump from counter culture to that, but it doesn't really matter
>>21830391A lot of people hate espresso but don't want to be lumped in with the poorover crowd so soup was born.
>>21830399really? espresso's actually growing more that specialty in terms of consumption
>>21830352>why would you buy distilled waterbecause its sold everywhere?and i have never personally seen the other thing you said for sale anywhere.im not saying it isnt i just haven't personally seen it.
>>21830398There’s an argument to be made that all gourmet consumables have a similar pricing makeup, where the cost is a derivative of its rarity, the effort needed to produce it and “the brand” but I feel like higher end coffee heavily skews toward the last category more so than the former.
>>21830434>i have never personally seen the other thing you said for sale anywhereyeah you have, it's every other brand of water, just look it up. I saw some indian dude say he used dasani or some shit because it was bottled with such and such ppm and alkalinitydistilled water is probably fucked worse than hard unless you try t least a little bit to remineralize it
>>21830443every bottle water is listed as spring water and doesnt tell you whats in it.unless you buy distilled water which doesnt have anything in it.i searched for "soft bottled water" and only got back bottled "spring water" and flavored sparkling water.maybe its different where you live. but for me "soft bottled water" that tells you its exact makeup is not common at all.>dasani no idea what that is
>>21830434it's not everywhere. japan for some reason really doesn't have it
>>21830523You can get distilled here in Yamato. Go to the drug store and look for 精製But yeah not sold at convenience store or supermarket most drinking stuff is mineral.
>>21830538精製水*Also when I visited Okinawa I saw they sell it in vending machines and convenience stores as やさしい軽水 under the brand bonaqua
>>21828035Just bought a coffee machine. Didn't want something too expensive since the whole point was to finally move away from instant coffee while still getting my quick fix (instant always seems to put me to sleep in the afternoon). No idea what beans are good or shit, but I guess with this first bag I got I'll just have to play with grind size.
sigh
>>21830258Most of the things that are just listed once also seem pretty normal to me, apart from roast profile which I would probably place on a website. My usual go to places dont tell anything about the roast profile at all, but you already know what you're getting so it doesnt bother meWhat got me was mainly the notes insanity, where I buy coffee They usually just list three notes at most>>21830379I bought some $550/100g beans recently and they were really good, but I think when you get to those price ranges you start getting diminishing returns. Its not the same jump in quality as going from your average super market bean to a "good" specialty one
>>21830714meant $55 not $550
>>21828035Best spices for coffee grounds?
>>21830714> I think when you get to those price ranges you start getting diminishing returnsEntirely honestly I’m not even sure if the hyper expensive coffee is objectively “better” than the already premium priced specialty coffee, does it really not come down to personal preference at that point as all of the coffee at any price range of ~$20/200g is already going to be high quality. It feels like a bunch of people dick waving and convincing themselves the more expensive one is better because the price needs to justify itself, I would be shocked if the hyper expensive coffee from limited lots received >50% of the choice in preference when given in blind taste sessions up against a moderately priced specialty coffee. With wine/whiskey I can forgive it to a degree since the processing required undoubtedly requires more skill and control, and these two commodities in particular actually develop better with age in many cases. With coffee however it’s constantly degrading and you have brown people picking seeds in Africa so the argument for boutique overhead isn’t there like it is for wineries or malt houses.
