>>21995960it was a little retarded>sometimes I go to cafes and they don't do drip. the solution is to ask the barista (probably not even the person taking the order) to make hot steam wanded water

>>21995917seconding this
>>21995981if it was for home drip enthusiasts, they'll just make drip without the $1k+ in gear to recreate it mediocrelyif it was for baristas trying to appeal to people who prefer drip, there's no way for customers to know a cafe is serving steam-wanded water, those people aren't the current base who order espresso drinks and like them as-is, and they'd more likely just add batch brew to the menusomehow telling baristas they're doing it wrong is the least retarded scenario

>>21996058Interesting anon, so it's like a Venturi mechanism? Y'should compare to forcing gas whilst brewing the coffee.
>>21996061>constantly pushes anti-espresso rhetoricYou don't have to be a sperg you know? You can just drink coffee.
>>21996063>Venturi mechanismI don't think so, at least I haven't heard anyone mention that coffee suddenly flowing faster at the narrow part connecting both chambers is doing something to affect flavor—the Chemex also does that. The main difference with the Chemex is that it has both the small hole at the back and the spout connected to the brewing chamber, so you never have the issue of filter paper sticking to the method. As for how the flow of oxygen into the brewing chamber affects the coffee as it is brewing, I have no idea>compare to forcing gas whilst brewingHow do you mean?

Sippin on coffee. Pondering why youtubers youtube.
I just made a pour over that tastes sort of sour... like hot lemon drink. I don't like it. Weird thing is that I used pretty much the same recipe I always do and even the same coffee. It's not specialty coffee but it wasn't bad. I'm not sure I understand what went wrong. Could it have been the coffee itself aging that did it? It was only a few days apart
>>21997031...money and boredom? An assertion of existence in an increasingly impersonal world?>>21997049Are you actually keeping track of your process or are you just spitballing?Coffee won't change very much over the scale of a few days unless it's stored improperly. So it's probably something else unless you're leaving it in an open container on the counter.
>>21997064Yea I've weighed and timed my shit. I guess I'll try Hoff French Press next to sort of get an idea of what this coffee is supposed to taste like once it's been properly extracted and figure out what I'm doing wrong in the pour over
>>21997021oh i know but the "people" im referring to either know and dont care or dont know and dont want to know
What temperature should different coffees be brewed at? I've heard the general rule is ~90C for lighter roasts and ~85C for darker because you don't want to burn the cof. But then I see other people advocating for pouring boiling water on top. So I'm confused
>>21997089>~90C for lighter roasts and ~85C for darkerits actually the opposite
>>21997103oh...
>>21997114just found this...I had no idea that Washed + Fermented existed. I thought all Natural was fermented. Oh no I don't know anything
>>21997122i was just fucking with you btwbut brew temp is relatively low on the list of importance to how a brew tastesgrinder, grind size, dose, pouring technique, water imo matter morelike you can start at 100c every brew but change the grind size a couple clicks and have a greater taste difference than starting at 90c
>>21997122All coffee undergoes fermentation.
>>21997083There are plenty of other factors that influence a brew, as anon has pointed out.>>21997122Just a guess, but that chart's usage of the word fermentation in that context probably just refers to an extended fermentation period compared to more conventional processes.

>>21996666I was looking for reviews of the Makita coffee machine. And his was the pretty much the only one. He is such a soft-handed smug prick about it. Treats it like an absurd novelty. He acts like such a know-it-all, pretends he understands blue-collar worksites and can't imagine a practical use for it. His biggest complaint is battery usage. But, he used the smallest, lowest amp battery they make. Likely because it's the cheapest. And he didn't want to spend more money just to review it. But, anybody even thinking of buying that will already have a full range of Makita tools and batteries. So, it's obviously a non issue. If you understood. He also can't imagine working anywhere where it would be useful. But, like. heaps of trades work out of a van. Or in un-powered site huts. Or rural, way out in some paddock. There's a tonne of practical use for that thing. And he's so smugly dismissive. Even though he's so ignorant. But, I've seen a few of his vids since, and I think he's OK.
>>21998056>pretends he understands blue-collar worksites and can't imagine a practical use for itHe doesn't and makes it pretty obvious that he has no clue about what an actual worksite is like.
>>21998056Using the drill to grind with the correct battery size was funny. It was also funny to see him having problem articulating if the problem was the 260ml reservoir, using the small battery, or being redpilled completely on the Makita water boiler.

>>22008260The grinder(and all grinders) can clog if you're feeding more beans INTO the burrs than coffee grounds are EXITING the burrs.>slow feeders exist to improve taste They do that by limiting the amount of regrinding happening. If grinds can't exit the burrs because there's shit in front slowing everything down, they take a few more spins and generate more breaks and fines. Some people will taste that.>or to help... higher density beansYes, higher density beans grind slower but feed at the same rate. Exacerbates the clogging and regrinding problem. You know the only thing that helps it? Slowing your feed rate so coffee can exit your burrs without clogging.
having a creamy one with some thicc double creem & brown sugar my brothers. It is the way to go. My schizophrenic mind tells me that the creem is buffering the bean for greater performance, like when you use DLSS to get Raytracing in Cyberpunk

>>22008586MHW3 Bomber R3 is probably the best money spent right now. $120, 48mm, external adjustment, comes with 5 sifting screens, and it fits other 48mm burrs like the Kinu pourover set. Pretty sure it doesn't work with a drill tho if you were going that route.https://mhw3bomber.com/products/mhw-3bomber-precision-r3-manual-coffee-grinder-1
this guatemalan black honey got me wanting to travel internationally outside my comfort zone yall~
>>22007877Did you do the dry erase marker alignment process? I have one too, and the alignment is finicky, especially with the rubber mount for the burr. Also, don't forget to check that your indicator dial stayed properly zeroed. It can move around as you turn the burrs if it's touching, and the set screw can wiggle loose a little bit.>>22007914My cleaning needs reduced dramatically when I started doing RDT. I think the static screen and probes are doing less than nothing. You get what you pay for. If you're willing to fiddle with it, a DF64 is a nice step up in grind quality from the cheaper options on the market, but it's not as expensive as the "fancy" grinders. I'll probably be replacing it in the next year or two, since I have more money now and it's kind of a nuisance to be messing with it this much. I don't even know what's good right now, though, besides the EG-1, and I'm not able to piss away quite that much money.
>>22008265>The grinder(and all grinders) can clog if you're feeding more beans INTO the burrs than coffee grounds are EXITING the burrsuh, duh, preventing that is a design consideration for the grinder manufacturers>You know the only thing that helps it? Slowing your feed rate so coffee can exit your burrs without cloggingso why don't slow feeding discs come default with the grinder to solve this obvious and universal problem, it's 25 cents worth of sheet metal

>>22007071Thanks!Setting it up was the hardest part, but it's something I really wanted to do so pushed through by making lots of calls to the government to make sure all above board(may still have mistakes as they make them too when giving directions).Learning to roast has been fun but now that I'm trying a new varietal- I'm seeing how tricky it can really be, may have messed this one up but we shall see, if anything a learning experience, but as you pointed out- an expensive oneholy moly the upfront costs are bleak and wholesale/selling to cafe is pretty rough (especially since I'm so small- if I had bigger volumes and guaranteed buyers it'd be more viable) but starting out it's so tricky.Trying to figure out social media to increase sales, and how to make shipping cheaper too now but those eat up an incredible amount of time, and it's not clear what will 'draw' people in to commit to buying a new brand
>>22010505nope
>>22010505Coffee futures are in backwardation so it's expected to get cheaper over the next few months.
>INSTANT COFFEESo . . . does it have to 'brew' at appropriate roast type temperature . . . or can you just put the kettle on your max sippable temp out of the gates?
>>22010951You don't want boiling water for instant coffee. Even 80c is a bit high. Remember, you aren't using water to brew anything, you're rehydrating the coffee grain, and the heat is only to make it easier to mix, and to provide residual heat for the actual drink. If you only have a kettle, that is a 100c boiling temp which is well beyond, you should set the kettle to start boiling and finish about 10 minutes before you actually need and then pour the water into a cup to let it come down to temp then use it.The best way to make instant coffee is to get a good milk frother/mixer & heater (eg the breville milk cafe, although this is expensive, it's the best, cheaper alternatives exist) that will heat milk up to between 140f (60c) to 160f (70c), some let you pick, so you can experiment. Put in your water & milk, then add the coffee & any sugar and then run the froth/heat cycle.

How do you make a good moka on these crappy electric hotplates with insane heat inertia?
>>22011204dispersion plate i guessor lift the moka off the heat to "regulate" it.similar to how they make turkish coffee in hot sandpush it in to get a burst of heat then take it out in order to not get too much heat and repeat until finished

>>220112131 cup filters I wouldn't go lower than like 15g. Too shallow of a bed and your shit just gets churned and overagitated.>>22011216This. Low dose drippers exist now like the deep27, sworks dripper, pulsar mini etc.
>>22011216>>22011221ty ill look into a smaller dripper, the 10g of kenyan i made just now didnt turn out that well so that sealed the deal
I'm trying the pourover spoon trick where you pour water onto the spoon instead of coffee and it just drips down. Is it normal for agitation to be literally 0? It's just a pile of clear water by the end.

Update on the semi auto machine it's working good. Got some cafe umbria running through it, really beats paying $2/shot. Haven't messed with the internal grind settings but the external ones have enough movement that I can get all the grinds I want for my other brew methods. KitchenAid is discontinuing this machine I believe (tank leak that you can fix with a tight fitting oring) so you should be able to pick it up for super cheap at discount stores. I got mine for $280 vs $599 or whatever KA was charging.
fine I give up, I will grind finer.
Currently drinking Amazon branded coffee. I was ordering something and saw this so I thought I'd try it.Is it good? Not really. Just a pretty cheap instant coffee. It's drinkable but that's about it.I do like instant coffee because it's less hassle than my french press. There are much better brands though of course - even stuff which isn't particularly expensive.
>>22012649I've tried iced pourover, I quite like it as it usually comes out sweet with the lighter roasts I use. I also make iced Americanos frequently in the summer. For both, I like to use whiskey stones to cool the water and/or brew before adding ice, which reduces dilution.I got some beans from George Howell recently that are apparently specifically roasted for cold brew, so we'll see how that goes.

>>22013679>unironically just buy pregroundThat was an idea but because as far I know I'm the only one drinking coffee every other day so beans store better.I'm sure the particle distribution would be even enough for emersion brewing although I'd have to grind finer.
