Katana is a widow and mother who buried her children, set on a bloody, grim path of revenge, with the occasional pit stop to leer at Superboy Prime.

fun ride.

this board doesn't give Dynamite enough credit for comics like these.
Weisman has been having a good time carrying on the Gargoyles lore. It hasn't gone full autism. When its all said, it will make for a nice omnibus.

I've picked up the holiday issues of Ducktales. They were fun too, art was clean & colorful and the writers got the vibe of the cartoon. Haven't read the other Darkwing stuff but Dynamite's done a pretty good job with the Disney Afternoon comics.

I'll use this thread to say that I'm also enjoying the Nightmare Before Christmas mini that's wrapping up this week and the new Muppet Noir. Its a gift anytime Roger Langridge can do more Muppets comics
>>
>>153054210
Gargoyles comics have been strong, though I wish they’d give Weisman a true ongoing for the main series. You can tell he’s been itching to work on one after Captain Atom. I don’t mind spin-offs and crossovers, but not at the expense of the main story. I wish they used more of the old pitches. Timedancer would be fun. I liked the Demona comic a lot, but Dynamite relies on her too much.

Aside from that, I also like Space Ghost. It’s a good, reliable superhero comic. No big events, sloggish story arcs, etc. Not too dark, but far from a comedy. Thundercats is solid too, but I don’t know why it’s so popular.

doubt it

Even good stuff (the handful of it) has an uphill battle for survival at current Marvel. The brand is radioactive and serves no audience ... except speculators
>>
>>153055747
The cosmic books were drawing an audience back after Imperial, so if Imperial ended stronger, it might have saved it

I always thought the old paper has a nice texture to it and I guess the printing of the time or whatever gives the color a bit of variation so it's not just a flat boring color

Nah. It's still recolored. I have two copies of the first tpb collecting the Moore run. One from ~2010 with Vertigo branding and a newer one with Black Label branding. The older's newsprint is rougher so it approxinates more closely the original colors, but the telltale sign is the missing caption from the top left, "Meet the sun". The Black Label version has smoother newsprint and is more obviously OP's middle image. OP's middle image looks like the recolor on glossy paper so it's super obvious. The right image is colors from the Absolute editions.

The Vertigo trade I have isn't that old though, so maybe a 90's printing got it right, idk.

You aren't a real Simpson unless you can bump someone out of the way from across the room.
>>
Anyone else having a hard time enjoying this show? I mean, I love simpsons and all, but now that I'm older it's extremely mediocre at times. It's strange because when ever I caught an episode back then it always gave a surrealist feeling like a cartoon was breaking alot of boundaries I've never seen before.

Now it's such a slog to watch. I can't imagine it being the same for people my age back then.
>>
>>153054089
>like a cartoon was breaking alot of boundaries I've never seen before.
That's because it was. It can't be understated how utterly transformative The Simpsons was for both animation and sitcoms in general.

If video games can have 8 boards, comics and cartoons should be able to each have their own board.
>>
>>153053476
Cartoons, youtube animation and live action shit have killed everything. Most people don't really care about comics that are older than a few years old beyond the ones who still want to fight the mid-2010s culture wars. One character basically can't be talked about because of one specific retard. It's sad.
>>
>>153054216
Yeah, but the mods want as much traffic to any given board as possible. It helps boost ad revenue and feign site activity. That’s why they let rule-breaking shit stay up for ages; why they don’t just shutter dead boards that get one thread a year or two; why they actively enable politisperg and death battle retardation despite those autists providing absolutely nothing of worth and being a plague on the entire board. A board split will never happen, no matter how much it should.
>>
>>153054121
>I just want a board split, but we all know that’s not happening…
I know that a lot of us would want that, and that it would probably be objectively helpful, but I wonder if animated adaptations could still be discussed on that hypothetical board. I want to talk about them with fags that read the comics and understand the characters, not the faggots that have low or dumb standards and mostly care about the porn

>>153054342
>It helps boost ad revenue and feign site activity
I don't like to hate mods and jannies, they're not perfect but I don't think that they're literal demons. Oh but understanding that one of the reasons why the moderation on /co/ and 4chan in general can be bad is because doing it correctly could affect revenue is very demoralizing. And then everything makes sense

The deconstruction of superheroes is the most overused and predictable trope in comic book history. From watchmen to invincible, and all that crap inbetween by obsessed tryhards like garth ennis, warren ellis and rick veitch. How come this shit still sells, after 50 years of shameless uninventiveness?

Invincible actually feels like a respectful tribute to the superhero genre.
Garth Ennis has openly stated he hates superheroes and the boys is his way of shitting on them in a tryhard way kinda like how you used to sing about killing Barney the dinosaur when you were 14 because your little brother watched it (he is a hack).
