I've got a question. Why is Sing the only one to cover the actual second half of Leonard Cohen's Hallelujah?It feels like lot of media treats it as some kind of break-up song. The song is about a broken man turning to religion to contextualize his character flaws, failures, and his suffering, love life included.In the first half he talks about being hurt yet as the song goes it slowly transitions towards self-blame and a resolve to keep moving forward, through the context of standing before God>Even though it all went wrong, I'll stand before the Lord of Song with nothing but my tongue but HallelujahThe fundamental point being that everyone's a bit broken and everyone carries pain. Everyone has a story to tell and the "broken" Hallelujah (a sad or repentant tale) can be just as important as the "Holy" one (a thankful or joyous one)It feels like a lot of stuff avoids the second half because it becomes more clear in that part of the song.
