The original book has a very somber tone to it, with end giving a message that taking care of the environment is something the readers need to take seriously or the aftermath of the Onceler's greed could become our very real reality.The movie tells the same overall story of corporate greed and the need to take care of nature, but it's far more saccharine and makes the whole thing too generic feel good Hollywood slop, making it seem like everything will be ok in the end because people will have enough sense to fix things eventually.A happy ending isn't necessarily a bad thing, but it kills a lot of impact the message is supposed to have on the audience. It goes from a genuine message of pushing back against wanton destruction to the usual feels good cartoon movie people will race about for a few months before forgetting about it.

Hollywood gave the green light to Ryan Reynolds to make an animated R rated animal buddy trip comedy about a horse and a bear on the run across America from federal agents. (Allegedly?)
I saw a test screening of this movie, it's actually a live-action movie with realistic (but non uncanny valley, like a better version of Lion King) talking animals. My memory isn't great so I couldn't run down the entire plot, but the conceit of it is that a pet bear and a miniature pony (who insists he's a horse) grow up in some idyllic animal sanctuary best friends with a little girl - the sanctuary is ran by her grandpa - and get torn apart by animal control when a cougar/tiger (something like that) mauls the grandpa and he dies (this interrupts some happy growing up montage for shock value).Years later by circumstance they re-unite and learn the value of friendship or something like this and track down the little girl again and get into all kinds of wacky hijinks because they're running from the law because the bear was being kept as a pet by a cartel guy and they think the bear has drugs in his stomach so the DEA and a wildlife ranger are tracking him down (the DEA and wildlife ranger is a subplot where they, the human characters, fall in love despite initially hating each other).>>151967072There's animal penis in the movie.
