Be honest with me, /co/Is there any hope of a newcomer getting into the industry and working his way up to showrunner in this day and age?Just how fucked are things?

Look's like the thread is losing steam. Oh well, it was nice to see another COTC thread.
>>151902252It is nice to see one last a bit. Last one on Christmas didn't last the night and I don't remember how long it's been since a Creek thread before that.
>>151902252probably shouldn't have been a Mark thread and maybe some of the contributing posters aren't seeing this thread

Previous >>151872697This time will be 2015Last time, live was chaotic for Darin. His adoptive father Fred had a stroke which, though he survived, left him confined to a wheelchair and with broken speech. The Fairgoods were also visited by Kerry, Fred's estranged daughter. If all that wasn't enough, Bio-Dad Frankie returned to Westview with his pal Lenny, hoping to capitalize on Lisa's Story to make a reality show about reuniting with his son. All efforts were rebuffed and with the help of his mother's friends, Frankie was forced to leave emptyhanded. But all wasn't bad for Jessica was pregnant and eventually gave birth to her and Darin's child, a boy named Skyler. She also got back to working on her documentary about her father and learned, unsurprisingly, that John Darling was an arrogant jackass. But after meeting with her father's killer she got the idea to watch some old family videos and learned that he at least had a soft spot for her. Satisied, Jessica decided not to release her documentary and instead take up work as a wedding videographer.Holly, missing her son, took up comic collecting in order to complete Cory's Starbuck Jones collection. While for Les, Lisa's Story had been optioned for a TV movie titled Lust for Lisa and he was given the opportunity to write the first draft of the script and flown out to Hollywood. However all the changes to the story took a toll on him and enacting his kill fee he managed to shut the whole thing down. On the plus side, he struck up a friendship with actor Mason Jarr who was now free to take up the lead role in the Starbuck Jones film so Les invited him to come to Westview to look up the Winkerbeans' collection so he could study for the role. But things continued their downward trajectory for Cindy who was aged out of working for ABC and instead sent to a Cleveland affiliate thus ending her career as a national newscaster.
The first panel of that year ender strip may as well sum up the entire final 20 years of Funky Winkerbean.Anyway, that's another year down and it's back to black and whites. Next time will cover 2016. It'll be lots of Hollywood stuff as Mason works on the Starbuck Jones movie, Cindy feels jealous over his co-star, and everyone tracks down original Starbuck Jones actor Cliff Anger.Meanwhile in Westview, the current class graduates and Bull is forced into an early retirement when his odd behavior reveals that he's afflicted with a serious condition.
>>151901462I don't think it was ever acknowledged that Funky and Derek were part of the football team in high school. They would just show up in the background for those strip where Coach adresses the team
>>151902353Derek was actually recruited for the team and then started showing up as part of it. Funky was just wherever he needed to be for a strip to work in those early years.

The drawings on the right are great too, but not as great, is there a reason why their styles are nearly impossible to perfectly replicate? With their great composition and contrast and everything?I study anatomy and Preston Blair and all yet my art always manages to look more like something on the right than the left.
>>151901743Really?
>>151901880Yeah and it’s just studies from observation but you can see the design appeal in the dragon doodle too. >Top right has no mass or weight ironically, forms are flat>Bottom leftFlat caricature of a photo, uncomitted design. this might be a bad example for this artist, seems good with a pencil.>Bottom rightStiff and lacking structural forms, shadows look cool but disguise anatomy mistakes. They can all get there too but the work shown is somewhere else currently
>>151901847does it get old constantly saying this about all classic cartooning? well, I suppose for some when it does get old it ends in suicide.
>>151902135Ok.
>>151901743>>151902135Top left was done by Dorkymations btw, I don’t think the rest are bad but I do agree that he’s the most talented of the group and the closest to matching the quality of a 90’s cartoonist. Though I can agree with your criticisms on Rodtasks drawing (bottom left), I feel like he also has great talent in terms of animation skills. The stuff he makes is incredibly smooth with a great understanding on depth and timing.https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=oUvULj9-t2g
Why don't writers know what to even do with her anymore? For quite some years she's basically just been 'woman' and portrayed as being over her head with everything going on.

I recently went back for the 10 year anniversary and started rereading some tie-ins I loved, along with a few I missed the first time around. Revisiting Master of Kung Fu completely won me over again, but more importantly, it made something very clear to me: this is the storyline Shang-Chi movie should have adapted. It already contains everything you would want from a Marvel kung fu movie. The superhero elements are present, the backbone of the story is the tournament, which gives the narrative focus, tension, and pacing. The lore introduced in this version is especially great. Multiple clans exist in a fragile balance of peace, all operating under the rule of a leader chosen through combat: the Mandarin, head of the Ten Rings. Each clan are versions of a different part of the Marvel universe like the Hand, Iron Fist, the Morlocks, Spider-themed factions, the Black Panther clan, Savage Land, Moon Knight, the Inhumans. It’s a smart and creative way to build a world that feels expansive and it makes the setting feel ancient, and alive. What really stings is how easily this could have translated to film. The emotional core is already there: Shang-Chi as the estranged son returning to face his powerful, authoritarian father, framed within a martial arts tournament that evokes something like Mortal Kombat. The MCU could have adapted the clans as needed, even using them to work concepts like Wakanda, Iron Fist, or mutants, while still telling a focused story. The comic’s art, fights, and emotional weight only make the missed opportunity more frustrating, and while maybe this is just crying over spilled milk, it’s a thought that hit hard while rereadingAnyways, felt like talking more about this, or about other Secret Wars tie-ins that you enjoyed or think deserved more attention.

Previous >>151843961This time will cover 2013.Last time, Darin and Jessica moved back to Westview and Jessica, who'd gotten into documentary filmmaking since graduation, decided to enlist Jinx to help her make one about her father. Crazy Harry, though, lost his job when the Westview post office was shuttered, seemingly forced into an early retirement until John offered him a job at the Komix Korner. But in better news, Wally's relationship with Rachel seemed to be going well and she helped him to get a service dog named Buddy who helped Wally make great strides in managing his PTSD.Les returned from another book tour to find that Summer had torn her ACL during a game. With surgery and Bull's help rehabbing, she was able to make it back in time for the start of the season but the basketball team started out poorly. Bull was inspired to recruit former teacher and coach Ann Fairgood as an assistant and with her help, things turned around culminating in the team winning the state championship. Bull also helped to compile highlights which helped get Summer and Keisha scholarships to Kent State after they had graduated. There was also some controversy prior to graduation when Roberta Blackburn threw a hissy fit over a gay couple wanting to attend the prom, but Nate and her husband essentially shutting her down put an end to that. In the summer, Les and Summer also climbed Mount Kilimanjaro, a trip they won in a raffle to save the local sports teams.Les's relationship with Cayla was rocky for a little bit, especially when Susan took the opportunity to kiss ihm and declare that she loved him. But a student saw the kis and circulated it around and with the ensuing controversy, Susan decided to resign and leave Westview. With that, Les finally proposed to Cayla and the two of them were married the next year.

>>151894423I couldn't tell you, didn't pay that much attention to them until years later someone here happened to be posting some UK comics that had them, then I screamed a bit and pointed to one of the back pages for UK Transformers.>>151900406That is definitely a name of the franchise! I've heard nothing but good things about Skybound, but I haven't been keeping up in a while. There's something about staying up for the weekly comics ten years ago, whereas now like, monthly comics and mangas seem like they either require me to reread the whole thing now and then, or mandate regular releases without any breaks, otherwise I'm going to start forgetting things. Think last I read, they just rescued Ultra Magnus or Cliffjumper got in trouble.
What sounds better for a weekend post holiday party. Eggnog with espresso and coffee liquor plus vodka? Or plus bourbon/whiskey? Hot chocolate with coffee liquor plus whiskey/bourbon? I have everything except for the vodka but I am headed to different shopping districts that should have decent vodka somewhere.
>>151897483Pretty relaxing so far. Tonight, we watched One Battle After Another and tomorrow, we're going out to a restaurant. Thinking about inviting friends over for NYE because we can see the entire city's fireworks from our flat
>>151899960Last few years, I've been of the mindset that festive cheer is something that I can give, even if I don't receive it. Giving cards, presents, maybe donating to a local charity. It sounds cliché, but Christmas isn't just tinsel and carols.
