It's a good Western, manga-style comic! It's not perfect, it has many definite flaws, mostly technical. But it's more good than bad.Could it be legally published in your country Do you enjoy protection for freedom of speech and freedom of expression?Anyway, Nina Starlight is cute (she's cute, CUTE, Etc), and Merry Christmas!

reboot is saved https://youtu.be/L00jx-GH2w8?si=LsXUxI3PCaMHaV6M
>>151875895>pretty sure OP is saying the production files are found, soThey weren't.What actually happened that a group was putting together a documentary for the 30th anniversary of the series, and just happened to ask Mainframe Studios "hey you guys got the old D1 master tapes, can grab some high def clips for this docu" and Mainframe said "yeah bro", then they docu guys said "Hey actually while you have these out can we like, make a new high def digital master with current technology" and Mainframe was all "sure go nuts, except you can't really release full episodes all willy-nilly 'cause that's our shit" and the docu guys were like "fair enough"The computer files used to make those old master tapes are still, allegedly, lost. All that's happened is higher quality recordings of the base master video tapes were made. Mainframe already put the first episode up on youtube, maybe in the future they'll release a new boxset or something. No one knows. In the meantime, separately from the D1 work, renewed interest in the series has brought forward a bunch of lost media, like the two ridefilms in good quality.
>>151876131(note that that image is from The Quick and the Fed, the wireframe appears in the episode. It's not proof of production files.)
>>151876131well, according to the video they did managed to get all 4 seasons (and apparently Beast Wars) cleaned up from those D1's so indeed it got saved.so while they cant release the eps publicly without Mainframe's consent, they indeed saved the series as well as possible.
>>151876178i mean, they literally got "saved", as in saved in a new digital video format. They weren't saved as in, oh no we might lose these. They were fine.
>>151870906>>151876131Nice work! Great to hear we might get higher-quality releases in the future. I'd buy a set.

What do you think of the animated Discworld adaptations?https://youtu.be/JIgE23LHgPQ?si=3ggFEL84LqsqbbZwhttps://youtu.be/UYhbiCygCGQ?si=h_Sz9chMlPYLYNxi
>>151874018It has long been said that Guards! Guards! is the point at which the series 'matures' from 'sword-and-sorcery parody' to being parodic about the human condition (or particular human concerns). The Rincewind novels start off basically as doing for 'fantasy humour' what the Xanth series did for 'fantasy punning'. Though far better. Aside from not getting the real 'feel' of who the Wizards are (post-Sourcery, certainly, once Archchancellor Ridcully freezes the old "dead wizards' pointy-shoes" concept of promotion), which is useful to apprecuate the Science Of Discworld set, and of course how the wizards cameo elsewhereAnd you generally couldn't go wrong with just reading the Watch novels (and interweaving them into the Industrial Revolution ones). Though I'd suggest checking the publication dates and adding the Death set in as well, definitely, as you can't beat Death and his 'family'.... (Not even if he still doesn't know how the 'horsey' chess pieces move!)And, truth be told, I like the Witches set, but (especially with Equal Rites being another 'early-installment weirdness', it only really getting into its stride with Wyrd Sisters), I wouldn't dare to suggest a random stranger commits themselves to them, because some people just won't like it, and the cross-over with the rest of the series is also fairly minimal.I read TCOM/TLF right back at the start (and, before that, had read Strata, strangely not realising this new series was from an author I'd already read) and it was very much an undeveloped fantasy world back then... I grew with it. I got used to it. I was there when "Can we have another Rincewind novel?" was the fans' eternal cry (he was a good guide to the world, but I'm glad that he got made an "Ape's Number Two", by the end). Also "Can we have one about football?" (*Eventually*, there was Unseen Academicals, but ...whether it's because I'm not a football/soccer person at heart... I don't rate it so much.)
>>151874790(cntd)TL;DR; - What I would give, as a general recommendation for anyone not wanting to commit to being a 'completist', is read anything (mostly, but not exclusively, the "Watch" set) that 'leads up to' Night Watch, to understand that novel... (That technically includes Thief Of Time, but only touching upon it as a 'crossover' event.) And then if you're still into it then progress forward, into later Watch novels and (for variety) whatever of the the Industrial/Moist Von Lipwigs you haven't already read.If I knew a person, I might suggest something else. You know a bit of Shakespeare? Well, Wyrd Sisters (Macbeth/Hamlet) and Lords And Ladies (Midsummer Night's Dream) should shape your 'intro arc'.Into musical history (sufficiently pre-millenial, ideally), Soul Music is good; or, if films, Moving Pictures. Heck, an interest in comparative theology gives you Pyramids and Small Gods (though you can also read them as stand-alones without being a theolgian of any kind, to make you think *or* just entertain you).Of course, if you *are* a completist reader and can beg, borrow or steal every book (check your local library?) then, by all means start with TCOM/TLF and go by publication order (note, sometimes more than one book a year, but rarely from the same sub-series so not too important to check the month as well!) and perhaps you'll get the same experience I did... in fact, force yourself to wait at least a few months between finishing one book and starting the next for the 'old fashioned' experience. ;)
As it happens, I am currently re(rerere...)-reading G!G!Still surprises me, after so many years, how much clever writing there is in it. Not as fully matured as the series later becomes. Vetinari isn't the absolute total manipulative bastard that he later becomes, and he's only a _very thoroughly_ manipulative bastard, for example. And Vimes was never intended, in this book, to be the main character that he becomes, merely a foil to the whole 'return of the king' thing (both plotters' nominal king and the one 'carefully left unacknowledged' one that became more important for the whole of the rest of the series). But it gets him and the Watch back up out of the gutter that the start of the book has them in (in his case, quite literally) and they do earn their public redemption.Making the 'later' scenario of Nightwatch (sequel-Vimes in prequel-Vimes's world) rather interesting, and leaving much about the slide between the times of a fresh-faced Constable Vimes and Captain Vimes undescribed but notable.By the time you get to the era of Blackboard Monitor Vimes (in some quarters, the most badass boast he could have - at least until he gains that little scar that goes even further to prove that he knows who he is "in the Dark"), or even just the semi-cameo appearance in Monstrous Regiment, he's not a different man. But he's definitely much happier _and_ determined.
Ook!

Do you ever wonder, why did something as antisocial as keeping a huge secret from your friends and family become such a huge part of the superhero mythos? These characters were created as role models, and them regularly lying to their loved ones was originally supposed to be seen as heroic and admirable for the greater good of not putting them in danger. But in real life, you probably wouldn't want to be friends with someone who regularly vanishes and lies to you. Isn't it weird how something so blatantly antisocial became such a crucial part of the allegedly benevolent power fantasy?I've heard the idea that the trope and its popularity originates from the appeal to Jewish migrants trying to hide that they're Jewish. How true do you think that is?
Weird attempt at a hamfisted stealth politics thread. Merry Christmas everyone.
>>151875603I can see it edging to that but not really entering politics outright thoughbehonest
>>151874293That's Saint Nicholas, a real person who lived 1700 years ago, not Santa Claus.
>>151871898I think it completely makes sense to hide it from most. For one you can't trust most people, specially not just ordinary, run-of-the-mill friends. Me personally I would maybe trust my parents and siblings, but that's it.You absolutely would not want to risk the secret getting out no matter what. Best case scenario people, including the government, would make your life an absolute hell privacy-wise, and worst case your loved ones would be kidnapped or straight up tortured and murdered depending on the sort of people whose plans you had foiled.
>>151876416People still call Santa Claus Saint Nick from time to time, it's the difference between the monk from Journey to the West and the real actual monk he's based on

>>151865363>Scroll through thread>Zero posts about the actual movieReminds me of /v/.But back to the point: Coraline is a movie that I watched for the first time last month, and it has gripped me since. Definitely not a "hard" Christmas movie, and I never really thought about it too hard until reading OP, but I could very well see it being a movie that some families and anons like to rewatch at this time of year.I regret not watching it sooner, because as an Alicefag and someone who enjoys games/movies/stories where everything is build-up to some invisible pay-off, where the story is lean and the design philosophy follows Chekhov's Gun to a T, it's quickly become my favorite movie of all time.
>>151875751happens when someone brings up politics To me, movies like that are November movies Also yeah, I remember seeing it everywhere when it first came out but never watching it.
