>From the pages of Jingle Belle comes everybody's favorite Texas firebrand! Master comics writer Paul Dini has set his imagination loose in the Southwest, and the result is Mutant, Texas, a town where several natural and nuclear disasters have irradiated the environment, giving strange new attributes to the inhabitants -- human, animal, and otherwise. This includes the pretty-as-pie, ginger-locked, good-time gal, Ida Red. A lady who can fly and shoot blasts of lightning from her fingers makes one heck of a sheriff, particularly when those crafty Kiyote Bros. are on the prowl! Join Dini and artist J. Bone for a brand-new adventure, taking you from Ida's youth to when she earned that silver star.

>>151937433What that mean?
>"With MUTANT, TEXAS, I wanted to create a place where basically, anything goes," Dini said. "At the same time, with Ida, I'm creating another twist on the fun superheroine characters that I'm known for contributing to BATMAN ADVENTURES and other places. Ida's story is filled with action, humor, some tragedy, and a lot of excitement. I'm removing all limits from what kind of trouble, both real and comedic, that I can get Ida and her friends into. Plus, it's great to create a place where it doesn't matter what corner you looked in, there's always something different to be seen. Not only is it a big, sprawling comedic neo-western epic, MUTANT, TEXAS is a creative ground with infinite possibilities.">"For me, it's all about denim," Bone commented. "Paul said he wanted to do something in the southwest, and I thought, 'Oooh, great! Denim!' There's not enough denim in comics, and I've had my fill of plaid school-girl skirts.">Dini aggress. "I have seen what Bone is doing with Ida's little blue shorts, and I am extremely pleased with the visual direction this book is taking.">"It's been exciting to work with Paul at Oni," said editor in chief Jamie S. Rich. "We really get to see him stretch his legs creatively. He went for teenage comedy in 'The Honor Rollers,' and vacillated between racy humor and syrupy sentiment in the JINGLE BELLE books. MUTANT, TEXAS looks like it's going to be the most fun yet."
>PD: In the earlier issues I went back and forth on the tone of the stories, and I sometimes found myself wavering between being funny and being crude. I wasn’t sure how far to take Jing toward an older or even adult audience, which was one of the things I learned by trial and error.>I looked at the other books Oni Press was publishing at that time, and as much as I liked Clerks and Barry Ween, I realized trying to take her in that direction was moving her into Bad Santa territory. That was not only a bad fit for Jingle tonally, but also it worked against the look of the charming artwork created by Stephen DiStefano, Lynne Naylor, J. Bone and many other talented cartoonists.>As for situations I don’t think she works well in; aside from the hockey stories, she’s not much of a team player. Other than hanging out sometimes with Polly the Witch, or more rarely, Ida Red from the Mutant, Texas stories, I don’t like making Jing a group leader. It diminishes what’s unique and funny about her.https://wickermanstudios.com/2025/10/16/adventures-in-cryptozoology-the-paul-dini-interview/

I think it would have been more interesting if they had skipped the Infinity War "various super hero teams try to stop the big bad from reaching his goal" setup and just kicked off with everyone already living in a fantasy world ruled by Doom with no context and the plot would be about them trying to escape.I mean the movie is literally called "Doomsday".
That's crazy, I'm still not watching this shit.

Previous >>151900349This time, it's 2017.Last time, with Lust for Lisa ended Mason Jarr was free to take the Starbuck Jones role and at Les's invitation stayed in Westview to peruse Holly/Cory's collection in order to study the role. While there, he met Cindy and there was an immediate attraction. Around the same time, Cindy was offered a newscasting job for an L.A. tech startup called Buddyblog and while there officially started dating Mason and so decided to take the job and move to California. When Mason didn't like the script for the movie she also helpfully offered up Pete's name as a possible writer necessitating his own move out to L.A. and Pete in turn got Darin a job as a storyboarder for the movie meaning he and Jessica would also need to move. While out there, though, Cindy became jealous of Mason's pretty and younger co-star Marianne Winters. Also there was Bio-Dad Frankie, now working for a TMZ knockoff. Following Mason and Marianne he was able to make it seem like the two were in a relationship which caused Marianne to have a breakdown but the now Mason Jarre was able to get to her and things worked themselves out. Also, the Mason Gang managed to track down original Starbuck Jones actor Cliff Anger, befriending him and getting him a role in the new movie.Back in Westview, Bull started showing odd behavior and explosive anger and it was discovered that he likely had CTE. This necessitated his early retirement from coaching. Cory came home from the army and sold off his Starbuck Jones collection so he could buy an engagement ring and propose to his girlfriend Roxanne "Rocky" Rhodes. John was also offered a consulting role for Starbuck Jones while the old school computer was taken away to be used as a prop in the film.
That does it for another year.Next time will be 2019. Mindy befriends another old Golden Age relic, the Pizza Monster makes their debut and we get one of the most absurd stories in the entire strip when Cindy works on her Butter Brinkel documentary. But the biggest story is the death of Bull Bushka.
