He finds contentment with his life as a whale washer, came to a better understanding with his boss and Angie, etc. I think the end got accelerated very quickly but Oscar was good natured and never wanted to hurt anyone. Does that and the fact he learned his lesson make up for his dishonesty?
This movie is not good but it's entertaining and there's legitimate funny parts, more than you can say of many bad films made today

That said the art does definitely still hold up and is still the best thing about the comic. I wouldn't fault anyone for reading and enjoying it but I wouldn't go out of my way to reconmend it to anyone.
