A lot of people kinda just moved on to other shit because the show lost appeal after season 3-4 and I hate to say it, but the fandom almost hinged on a novelty. There was a "joke" to the brony fandom centered around "This show is meant for little girls but is surprisingly well written and well animated". It was kind of a huge element of its peak. When the novelty of that wore down, you saw the bronies themselves lose interest rather fast, it really was just a fad in that regard.
