It's the time for a thread of our girls. What do you want to see from them? And any other discussion of them.
>>143200693Huh that's fast for a new thread.Id want a solo cass book, but I feel steph needs a solo thing the most rn.
>>143200736Cute.
>>143200693I hate babs like that.
My true desire is a relaunch of the Batgirls title with a more competent team and an actual direction.
>>143201236Any ones you'd like to see?
>>143201631I don't know of any writer, but I'd love to see more Haining-drawn Cass and Steph.
>>143200693Literally just retcon them out of existence.Babs is the only one worth keeping around.
>>143200693
>>143201803Has he drawn steph?
>>143202106For one panel in Spirit World.
>>143202218John Con and Swamp Thing are too cool for Batdorks

>>143202546Constantine is cool... just not when he's in the post-90s.
>>143202649So hasn't been for 34 years.
>>143203605Gilf Cass is top tier.
One Batgirl can stay in Gotham, the others have to relocate to different cities. Who stays in Gotham and what cities do you send the others to?
>>143204064>steph Gotham>babs bludhaven or hub>Cass becomes a wonderer bat. Or metropolis to make Cass anon happy.
>>143204064I reject such ultimatums.
>>143200693>Steph was such a bad girlfriend that she turned Tim gay
>>143204064I was gonna write a thing but honestly I like this >>143204092 , obviously ideally id rather not pick but I can see this working best.Outside of the kon thing you can play cass agasint metahumans from metropolis and pit her against intergang since she fought johnny stitches the one time. Plus the kon thing. Babs can be effective in different places while steph's the most tied to gotham
>>143204570Sex
>>143200693I want to see Babs get a better writer than Tom Taylor. I want to see Cass get a better writer than Alyssa Wong. And I want to see Steph get a writer.>>143201631For writing I'd love Tim Seeley or Jeremy Adams. For art Serg Acuna, Amancay Nahuelpan, Carlo Pagulayan, or Alvaro Martinez.

>>143207825Steph should use more tight dresses.
>>143208421Gotta worry about her stephs bursting out.
>>143208232Yea, but they stopped at second base. Cass kept on making double entendres with the word 'Dick' so she could prove she was good at words too, while Steph was flat out saying she'd love to eat waffles from Dick's pecs.
>>143208432I need to see her fucking dressed like that.
>>143207825>Chad and tomboyBased beyond belief. Are there any other pairings like that?
>>143207825What's with steph's back scar?
>>143208559>Steph's dress is so tight that her boobs bust out when she bends over>Cass rips her dress off in solidarity (and because she likes being nude)>Tim and Kon have to scramble to cover them with whatever is handy>they leave the restaurant wearing tablecloths
I just don't buy the idea that Steph can beat a supervillain. She can't be that good at fighting, that's ridiculous.
>>143208740Come on kon wouldn't cover her.
>>143207825Absolutely wonderful piece!Poor tired Tim. Cass with the rolls/bao! Kon with the cool! And Steph with her Collision dress and hedgehog hair (realistically drawn)!
>>143208855Her roomate is the world's greatest human fighter. It's bound to rub off a bit on her through sparring.

>>143207825de-bluredfixed cass eye coloradded cass lipstickimproved bust-lines for cass and steph
>>143209450Isn't it a bit rude. And blue eyes are weird on cass.
>>143209296>>143208855>Her roomate is the world's greatest human fighter. It's bound to rub off a bit on her through sparring.the only reason any member of the batclan is alive is because of plot armor, all it would take for most super beings to kill them is a flick of the wrist. The only rational thing Cass, Steph or Tim should do when faced with a super threat is pick up the batphone and call Kon and Kara. Tim has the Titans on speed-dial, there isn't a single threat in Gotham that can stand up to that.
>>143209450>blue eye Cass
>>143209622>It was her orginal eye color before DC retconned heruh, wut?If you just want to give her bluegrey eyes it's ok but you don't have to pretend it's a canon reason. Also the lipstick is a bit bright.

I don't have a reading list for Babs: I guess just watch BTAS and read TKJ, Ostrander's Suicide Squad, and Simone's Birds of Prey.
>>143215262I need to make one of these with post n52 stuff. :D
>>143214850More like they'll just do another middling Babsgirl run eventually.
Babs was better in the chairSteph was better as Tim's girlfriendCass was better as a mute
>>143215442YesNoMaybe
>>143215442She was but modern writers would fuck it upYesNo
>>143215442Everytime people talk about the wheelchair I think about Yost's Red Robin where Barbara took out a whole ninja squad in her wheelchair and think wow, why even bother?
>>143215457>>143215510Like these idiots? What magic powers do you think the chair has? And I know you're gonna say some dumb bullshit how the chair makes her unique but that makes you idiots because Oracle being defined by her wheelchair just makes her a token.
>>143215587the chair stops batgirl from being an option and focuses full time on the much more important and useful oracle. That's its whole purpose. She doesn't "need" to be in the chair but writers can't help themselves otherwise
>>143215587"Batgirl who Oracles sometimes" has been awful so bring back the chair.
>>143215630>the chair stops batgirl from being an optionBut that's not a good thing, it's just a thing that promise any better stories featiromg oracle. And if you care really cared about a useful Batgirl then wouldn't Babs still edge both cass and steph out?Being both Brains and Brawn?
>>143215681I don't even know how we're watching this conclusion when the opposite is so obvious? Like when you have to split the story focus for oracle watchtower observer duties and the frontline where the physical action is taking place means the person sitting at the computer is doing something less interesting then facing the physical threat.
>>143215527Why bother what?
>>143215798When even bother keeping her in the chair if she can fight an entire Ninja assassin squad. At that point writers are no longer dealing with the physical reality of being in the wheelchair.Like she didn't just cleverly lead them into a booby trap, she physical fought them off while reamining in the chair.
>>143215701it is a good thing because they can't half-ass either role that way. In general they should go all in on a role and stick with it but people will probably always have a problem with Batgirl because it's straight up a lesser role than what Oracle was, outside of people with a fetish for redheads in heels. It's like going from being a general to infantry. This is compounded by the fact that her Batgirl stories aren't even good. The only way to really change that is making her full on Batman tier and that won't happen for obvious reasonsAlso the gap between any of them in the field is negligible which is sort of the point. It's easier to find Batgirls than it is to find Oracles. I get that some people want her in the action and whatnot but it's difficult to walk back from Oracle especially into the Batgirl stories that we got
>>143215914I think oracle is a lesser role because of my stated reasons that it's a character seperated from the fun action typing on a screen isn't as fun. She doesn't even have a good reason to wear a colorful outfit if she's just sitting at a chair.
>>143215587I said I think modern writers would fuck it up.>>143215701It's the best way to justify why Dinah and Helena are useful. Otherwise it's just babs doing everything and that's boring as hell.
>>143216098She's the leader of a team and has actual dynamics. Do that with Batgirl and sure. They still haven't managed to. They would fuck oracle too because they'd give her some drone or some bullshit.
>>143216098BoP was more fun than all of the Batgirl comics
>>143216102That's a silly argument to make becaise doesn't that logic mean Helena is completely useless and add nothing and should be cut off the bird of prey?
>>143216175If babs can walk? 100 percent. Without it she allows for there to be a grounded not quite as skilled vigilante on the physical aspect. Bop only works if babs is oracle. You can make the other batgirls work just fine by detaching them or making babs batwoman, not the same with bop.
>>143216263No anon you misunderstood my point, I'm saying your logic would mean that, even with oracle in the chair, Helena is a useless character on the account Black Canary already can do what Huntress does.
People only want the chair back because it just opens up more opportunity for Cass and Steph. Since they will always be the 2nd tier Batgirls compared to Babs.
>>143216375Cass has been doing well for a while, I just think BOP doesn't work without oracle and BOP was a fun book.>>143216315Kind of? Helena is fun but she isn't needed. Still two agents on the field with command makes it more like Charlie's angels. The thing is that if babs is in the field too they become unnecessary
>>143216669You know the biggest problem with trying to model BoP off Charlie's Angel? We never saw Charlie. Inherent flaw in the whole damn thing and nobody notices this till now?
>>143216710We hear Charlie. And oracle is an actual character with her own plots while the action happens (and inherent tension when she's part of it physically by happenstance). But again I don't want babs to be oracle rn because modern writers can't do anything but punch punch storytelling.
>>143200736Sweet design.
>>143209347She was dead for like two years.
>>143217556Artist is so good.
>>143214668>>143215262Thanks
>>143216315Teams aren't interesting because the members are perfect skillset complementary. They are interesting because the members want different things for different reasons and the conflict makes it interesting.
>>143216152It's so lame to think that they couldn't get her to walk again.I mean, call up Cyborg or whatever. A wheelchair? It's so dumb i'll never not be mad about it.
>>143218640Exactly so maybe hyperfocuing on putting babs in the wheelchair again as a deterrent doesn't make that much sense.
>>143220000Babs was crippled in 1988 and left a paraplegic up till 2011.Batman was crippled in 1993 and was fully healed within a year. Of course it was dumb. They never pretended it wasn't.
>>143220031>Of course it was dumb. They never pretended it wasn't.Well yeah, that's what i'm complaining about. The only reason i can see is because they wanted to push her down some stairs to make room for Cass.
>>143220031No anon you don't understand, Batman's spine wasn't all the way broken and could be healed by psychic while alas Bab's spinal injury was real serious and she didn't want to insult anyone else in a wheelchair who doesn't have connections by using science to fix it.
>>143200736>Id want a solo cass book, but I feel steph needs a solo thing the most rnNot profitable.
>>143220043Well actually they did it just because she was associated with the adam west batman show.
>>143216375I think they each just need their own focus. Babs should absolutely be tackling our modern day cyberpunk dystopian problems as Batgirl/Oracle when she isn't helping heroes from her clocktower. Steph was the fun Batgirl normies assume Barbara was, and fits that niche well. Cass could probably use some time on a team book, preferably without Harley Quinn, it'd do to expand her relationships more. I know she's in Birds of Prey, but maybe being around heroes closer to her own generation would be better.
>>143220137Fuck that pigeonhole bullshit, what they need is to be a team all on their own, which is to say a Batgirl family independent from Batman and his Robins.
>>143220168Because that worked out so well the last time
>>143220229Last time wasn't fully committed to the Batgirl family idea, in fact that's why it failed in the first place.
>>143204064Babs moves to Southern California. I had a few pages of plot break downs and character sketches I made a few years ago but it all seems rather pointless since I really have no chance of working in comics and frankly it seems like an awful industry
>>143221551>Babs moves to Southern CaliforniaWith Bette?
>>143221551might as well post it here
>>143221479Such a cool design.
>>143222579Add Singelin to the list of people who should do a Cass and Steph book.
>>143209622>just like how they made Damian brownDamian's supposed to be part Chinese, as his mother and grandparents are half Arab half Chinese. But most forget about the half Chinese part.
>>143220028I'm not the one who keeps saying "put Babs in the chair." I'm ok with the current status quo where she does both, and my ideal would be Babs leading and mentoring the other two in the field. Oracle is my favorite long term period of Babs, and I disagree with those who say "it's obsolete", but I'm not trying to "keep her in the chair." I am fine with Babs as Batgirl.
>>143220031The dumb thing, to me, was that they decided to break Batman's back. Babs being a disabled heroine was very inspiring. Obviously Batman can't be disabled, but I don't think breaking his back should have been done (especially since then they kept breaking it and having him magically reset it. Rolling eyes so hard.)
>>143220043This is a ridiculous assertion. Babs was crippled because Len Wein and Alan Moore didn't care about her character. That was over a decade before Cass was created.
>>143222642Now that would be amazing. I love both his Cass and Steph backups.
>>143222905You underestimate the preptime of Cassfags, Wein and Moore was on our side the entire time.
>>143223110Through an incantation of Glycon, Alan Moore peered into the future and saw Cass and knew the dark duty that befell him.
>>143200736Arent you supposed to be a Cass fag
>>143223885Many of us specific character fans love all three (or four or five or six) Batgirls. I'm a Steph fan first and foremost, but I love Cass, Babs, Charlie, Helena, Bette, and many other Batgirls.

>>143225141You can basically do that with control-net, reseeding, and inpainting now. It's just that until it's an app that normies can use on their phones, it'll be too much work for the layman.
I still say Molly Quinn would make a good Babs.
>>143225380Maybe WB will be competent enough to make a Batgirl or Batfamily movie or series.

>>143228617we already know how Babs would react because of that stupid FabNic story.

>>143231872bubbly personality with some streetwise common sense and repressed anger
>>143231872What >>143231915 said is good, but she's also the ultimate outsider looking in at the Batfamily, which is why I love her best.
>>143231941whoops, meant this. Tom King filename confused.
>>143231962Being forgotten isn't much of a trait desu>>143231915I see.>>143231941There's like 2 other outsiders to the family.
>>143232007of the Batgirls, though. And she's forgotten because she's an outsider.
>>143232024Fair. But in general that seems a bit weird. Compared to everyone else having more of a niche.
>>143231872The short of it would be daddy issues. Steph came from a broken home in Gotham, not crippling poverty but still working poor. With her dad in jail and her mom abusing painkillers, she basically had to raise herself. So she carries a lot of angst, mixed with a desire to prove herself as more than her father's daughter, and have a sense of control in her life.So being a superhero is both a way to right what she feels is an original sin, and also finding control in her life-as well as helping others to keep them from feeling the same sense of helplessness. This is most shown with her and children. For me, besides my own liking of her personality, the angle I like about her as to where it fits into the greater batman mythos is that she's a product of one of Gotham's criminal element that's not quite A-list(and thus bound to the character) but not just a street thug. Just some guy who thought he could be bigger than he was. In a meta sense, the 40's-80's were FULL of villains outside of the "classic" rogues who never made it to classic territory and only had 2-3 appearances and maybe some cameos. So it's amusing to think of one of these villains having a whole life outside of being a washed up villain- and the repercussions it has. In effect Steph's the daddy's girl who rebels-but instead of being a bad girl she becomes a good girl. And she's one of the few batfamily members to come from Gotham, proper, which is kinda funny when you think about that.
>>143232052I mean, either she sticks out to you when you read her or not. I tend to think that while I don't hate it when DC "Ninja Turtles" the Robins or Batgirls, what I said in >>143218640 remains more interesting than everyone having the same "niche" per se.
>>143232065I think the problem with that being Steph's "niche" is that daddy or parental issues are a bit too common in the Batfamily, and Cass's daddy issues have roughly the same trajectory.
>>143232093The main difference is- for all of Cain's issues, David Cain actually loved Cass(hell the whole Bruce Wayne Murderer event was driven by that). Willis Todd did love Jason. But Cluemaster very likely didn't actually have any love for Steph beyond seeing her as property. To the point where her third story is him using her as collateral for another gang of criminals to ensure his end of a deal.So while Cass is trying to balance the mark her father has in her life by trying to apply it in a way she can help others, Steph is outright running away from it. She doesn't have the same conflict Cass does with her father because she has no mixed feelings on him.
>>143218640Overall I agree with you. But BOP was special because it was a team with an actual purpose where each member could be useful. It'd why expanding it doesn't work. It'd why it hasn't worked at all since the new 52.
>>143232093I was going to say this.>>143232141But he did when she died. So again it feels a bit weird.>>143232065The daughter of a d lister thing is actually interesting but her personality seems to vary way too much.
>>143232155I just don't agree that expanding it doesn't work. At least not during Simone's run (though the last few arcs were getting out of control).
>>143232191BOP hasn't been BOP since. Just an all girls team which sucks.
>>143232191what I will say is that REPLACING it doesn't work.
>>143232169>But he did when she died.Maybe, but she wasn't around to see that, and even then it's too little too late for her formative years. Cluemaster having some remorse over his past and wanting to change is a good angle but that doesn't change what she went through growing up and how it impacted her. One angle that should be explored more and got brought up as recently as the One Bad Day Two-Face one shot is that Steph is less forgiving and brushes off excuses for criminals just because of their history.
>>143232205wdym
>>143232264I think you should always strive to have Babs acting in an Oracle way, and preferably Dinah and Helena as core members. I agree with the idea that "it's just a girl team" is absolutely stupid and part of why I hate everything DC has done since 2011.

>>143232994Sadly

>>143234610Just make Oracle and AI or Alfred
>>143235875Castellucci and the Burnside team both did the AI thing already and both times sucked hard. Alfred as "Penny One" was an Oracle figure during Snyder's period, and it was...mixed, in my opinion.

Steph (and maybe Cass) should have the distinction of being the members of the BatFamily most willing and able to deal with magical bullshit, due to not being so rigidly logical as Bruce.Damian would also fit this role for the Robin side of things, but that's a different matter.
>>143237563I think the kids in general should be more open to magical bullshit, just because they're younger. But Steph definitely has an in thanks to her brief adventure with Klarion, and Cass spent a whole mini in spirit world, so.... yeah.

>>143245348>Come on it was a midling compromise that made neither camp happy by design. Not really talking about the quality of the compromise, there seemed to be a legit effort from DC to push Babs as Oracle again:>Started by Babs reclaiming the title in Joker War.>Future State had her randomly retconned into being Oracle halfway through the event without explanation despite clearly wearing a Batgirl costume.>All Infinite Frontier Bat-Family Artwork had her as Oracle.>Infinite Frontier #0 had her give a whole speech about doing more as Oracle.>Most Babs appearances post-Future State and pre-Batgirls had her as Oracle>Batman Urban Legends had an entire Oracle-solo mini one-shot story seemingly trying to set up a new status quo for Babs.>Promotion material for Batgirls focused on Steph and Cass, with Babs only appearing as Oracle in the background.>Batgirls itself had Babs solely as Oracle for its first 5 issues or so.I mean, I know it’s been a while, but plenty of people legit got angry at Tom Taylor back when Babs’ Fear State costume was revealed because they thought she was going to remain as Oracle.
>>143245770Pretty standard problem of a fanbase split between what it wants that wouldn't be an issue if editorial would realize that you can have a character do two things.
>>143245770there are too many people on twitter who fall for Tom Taylor's "be mean to me and I'll flop like a footballer" trick.
>>143245681Most of it was shitty and I'd say it ruined Spoiler as a viable identity for years..but I do like steph being streetwise enough and confident enough to use her sex appeal as a tool.
>>143200693I distinctly remember steph doing the crane stance in this drawing.
>>143245890Hard to say, since she was promoted to Batgirl just a few months after FabNic's idiocy ended, and then was deleted from existence for three years.I think using her sex appeal is just kind of a cheap plot device and I prefer not to see it. I think it demeans both the men and the women in the situation. Realistic, sure, but I don't read comics for realism.

>>143250287
>>143200693>What do you want to see from them?I really really really want to see a good comic with them, one that respects them as characters, takes them seriously, makes them look cool and capable and isn't written or drawn like absolute god damn shit. >>143255723Seems harmless to me. It's like stephcass and these threads is where batmoth used to be the big thing.Doesn't Cass anon post a ton of timsteph stuff too?
>>143255723>Conner, who has absolutely nothing do with Batgirls"Absolutely nothing" is false, Cass/Conner was an explicit canon ship that appeared in two issues 25 years ago. That said, I do think the spam gets a bit obnoxious. I don't like shipping any of these characters to begin with, I think the most trite kind of girl hero writing is "now let's pick a boyfriend for her".
>>143255859>two issues 25 years agoThat's exactly the point. The interaction happened a quarter of a century ago and had absolutely zero impact whatsoever on either character's development. It's such an insignificant part of their histories that it may as well have never happened. And being in two issues together in no way makes them a "canon couple" which implies an actual developed relationship.>>143255855I'm not suggesting it's not harmless, (especially when compared to all the pedo shit that is unfortunately so prevalent) but I am genuinely curious as to why people are so obsessed about a pairing that is dead and buried.
>>143256078>And being in two issues together in no way makes them a "canon couple" which implies an actual developed relationship. It doesn't imply that. Canon means appeared in an in-continuity comic. Any characters that have appeared together even in ONE PANEL are a canon couple.
>>143256078>why people are so obsessed about a pairing that is dead and buried. It's not "people" plural, it's literally one person in these threads. As for why, sometimes people like things. You don't need an approved reason to like a thing.
>>143256180There's others clearly. Still mostly Cass anon.
>>143256078you're over thinking this. Somebody latched onto it because it was cute. Doesn't matter that it lasted like 2-3 issues. It won't work for a whole bunch of issues but that doesn't matter to fan
>>143245770I think it was a pretty cynical ploy to try and draw back older fans, but I don't think anyone who's line in the sand is Babs being Oracle stuck around long after the New 52.
>>143255079yup>>143255430Agreed!>>143255723It's not a crack fan pairing. Not compared to stuff like BabsMoth or JimShiva which get a lot of greentexts.
So does any of the Batgirls have an ongoing book right now? A little crazy thinking about it, but I can't find anything going on DC's site and current series, am I just blind or something?
>>143250312What seems pretty far off?>>143250076Kind of, but I think batgirls in particular felt off in who it was for.>>143250369Yeah.>>143253315I like them. On a seriouser note, I think that they have a nice thematic underpinning having both been made as weapons before deciding other stuff and both wanting to suceed their mentors, as well as a classic case of contrasting personalites while being a good flip on cass's usual dynamics as kon actually does get her fairly fast while its her that understimates him. Plus the actual date dynamic and angry bat-dad i find very amusing. I think its one that had a lot of potential, especially for a character like cass who doesnt really have many viable alternatives. I also think it could push both characters out of their confort zones in fun ways. Oh and the whole "it was intended to last longer but bat-editorial bat editorialed all over it">>143255723Pftt they interacted a few more than those (total of 5/6 depending on if you count cass's head kon), and end of the day kon is cass's first kiss :P. And they did reference it in the batgirls cover fairly recently. And i commission dick/babs (not a lot) and tim/steph (a fair amount yeah), and ive posted a lot of it over the years.>>143255859Hey I made 14 posts here this time only 4 had kon in them, plus a 5th had a reference to him. Hardly spam :PAnd on my defense..id do the same with male superhero threads if they were regular enough.
>>143256605Not as a lead character. Cass is a regular in Birds of Prey, and Steph, Cass, and Babs are common supporting roles in Batman, Cass is a regular supporting role in Detective, and Babs is a regular supporting role in Nightwing.

>>143260969It's a case of a book trying to be for everyone but not being for anyone as a result. Doesn't help the premise that started Cass and Steph living together was a huge event that's not really explained. Or that it spent all it's time setting stuff up rather than them going on actual adventures because they literally couldn't leave the apartment without being in serious danger.
>>143261603Can't really say it spent all its time setting stuff up when it was doing nothing but spinning its wheels and burning off plot points from an event no one read. And it didn't try to be for anyone either. Babs did nothing, Cass did nothing, Steph did nothing, they were all out OOC, their support casts were stripped, their behavior, actions, and interactions didn't read right, and the book seemed allergic to actually establish anything. It didn't even let them keep a car.
>>143261944>It didn't even let them keep a car.RIP, Bondo. You didn't even get to drag race against the mothmobile.
>>143262305Honestly it was pretty infuriating that literally anything that moved beyond the initial setup was removed within a few issues, if not a few pages, no matter how trivial.

>>143269322Mature Babs with more juvenile understudy Batgirls was sort of the dream scenario for a while (until Batgirls fucked it up). I remember one of the major complaints about the New 52 was how Babs became less mature as a character, which was a natural part of deaging a character, but she didn't gain much in turn. They really derailed her character in a way that she hasn't truly recovered from.

>>143215914>It's like going from being a general to infantry. Why are we acting like Oracle isn't some glorified secretary lmaoMission control really isn't that important, most heroes don't need it, hell, Batman works just fine without it, even if Alfred did it for him for a while.
>>143275582Because she ran a team with 127 issues? Like, barbara as oracle was the leader of a team. Lmao.
>>143275582And Batgirl is bat vigilante number 8. Only thing she has is Gordon being her daddy but the others have Bruce as theirs.
>>143274999I disagree. Especially at the beginning of Batgirls where they were acting like tweens. Like others have said in this thread, it didn't help that the title's premise came off the heels of an unpopular event. I don't even remember seeing editor's notes in the first arc pointing to the relevant issues from the event to read. Or even a recap being given of what was relevant from it.Batgirls could've worked. Older superhero taking a backseat and mentoring a younger hero while acting as mission control for him or her has worked before.
>>143275606BoP functioned because Dinah, and later Helena, flat out couldn't do the technical aspect of the job while Babs couldn't do the physical aspect. It's a complementary dynamic. Most of the Batfamily is at least decently skilled in what Oracle does, even under Dixon Tim was capable of keeping up with her, so it makes her superfluous. It's one of the reasons why she's always paired with Cass and Steph, they're the ones who don't have the technical expertise. Also, it's not the mid to late 90s anymore, computer literacy is an expectation so the floor for what Oracle does is now much higher and since people expect heroes to be competent at their job there is really no need for her outside of specific story elements. Within the Batman books she's got other characters who can slot into the Oracle niche without issue, in other team books the roster has to be specifically built to prevent that same kind of overlap but, particularly when other team members have their own books, she's competing against the other characters own competencies. The other is that by nature being the person behind the computer does not allow for particularly exciting usage of the character on a regular basis and makes them feel rather passive. While oversimplifying things, >>143275582 hits the nail on the head about mission control type characters. They're not a dynamic role and their point in stories is the facilitate the narrative of the active hero and to serve as a talking head.Though I really think that this is an exceptionally pointless argument facilitated by people who aren't actually good at coming up with plotlines. If someone says that Babs has to be either Oracle or Batgirl I will respond by arguing that Batman can either run around Gotham or be on the Justice League but not both. It's the same argument. God forbid there be room in a story about ninja detective vigilantes for backflips and hacking at the same time. It's all a skill issue on the writers.
>>143276424>words>words>wordsTake your meds
>>143275615The other batgirls don't have Bruce as their "daddy" either. At least, when well written they don't. It's the Wayne Family Adventures crowd that wants to erase David Cain and the Cluemaster. People who know these characters from memes and wikis and fanart. Being adopted by Batman is a status symbol for them, or something.
>>143276699Cassandra WAS adopted by Bruce. You're right about Stephanie Brown. She lives with her mother. With how close she and Tim were it was an eventuality that she'd marry into the Bat Family. Which she was welcomed into. While that's not going to happen for the foreseeable future it hasn't changed her relationships with the other members of the Bat Family.
>>143276863No, she wasn't. This god-awful mini led right into Batman RIP and Final Crisis. You'd have the ominous RIP logo in the lower right of the last image if you weren't just reposting an out of context cropped image you found on twitter.Bruce goes back in time. Cass goes to China. >>143277132It doesn't say Batman. Can you provide any proof of him referring to her or thinking of her as his daughter? You can't because he doesn't.
>>143277209>Cassie acts like Batman>*sigh* You can't help it. You are your father's daughterSince you seem to lack the ability to infer meaning from dialogue then I'd say go back to English class. But, with how shitty English classes are nowadays they probably wouldn't teach you a damn thing. On purpose.
>>143277267i hate that faggot drawing, but i'm won over by the inclusion of a j/o crystal
Why do people want Bruce to adopt Cass? It was a throw-away line from the worst writer Cass has ever had. She has a father.
>>143277132Cass with black lipstick makes me feel things
>>143277570>Why do people want Bruce to adopt Cass?batfam wank
>>143277570It’s a symbolic gesture so they can’t just write her off again
>>143277570A father who she hates. Bruce adopted Cassie. It happened, was retconned, and is now canon again. Get over it.
>>143276922You say this every time. She was adopted. It was largely off screen, but outsiders picks up much later and Nightwing mentions the adoption.
>>143277267You still hasn't answered the question. When does Bruce ever refer to Cass as his daughter? When do Dick, Jason, Tim and Damian ever refer to her as a sister? You do realize writers just put shit in stories all the time because they feel like it without any consideration of whether or not it agrees with the current canon? When has DC or the Batman editorial ever acknowledged it as being official in any capacity?>>143277570Because Cassfags desperately want to make her more relevant. Batgirl will ALWAYS be Barbara to the vast majority of people and that pisses them off to no end. They view every single character as being merely an accessory to raise Cass' profile and being counted amongst Batman's kids, they feel, is the best way to do so.
>>143276332I'm referring to their individual runs. In batgirls they were even younger.
>>143279158Moving the goalposts doesn't make you a winner. Learn to read very soon...
>>143276699Cass does sometimes. And if steph doesn't that makes babs as Batgirl less unique. What is a story you can only tell with her as Batgirl you can't tell with the others.
>>143276424I'm not really convinced by this argument really. Barbara didn't assume a passive role in Puckett or Miller's Batgirl runs, just because she isn't fighting on the frontlines, it doesn't mean narratively her character was passive. While she's not a main focus Puckett's run, in Miller's she was basically a deuteragonist alongside Stephanie. If anything, it seems like more of a skill issue on the writers (namely the editors) if they can't see the value in the character of Oracle as she was before the New 52, and make her work.
>>143276424Its a complimentary dynamic 100 percent...one where babs is team leader. Tim's the only member of the family shown consistently as good with that stuff (to the point its a point of bonding between the two) largely due to the fact that unintentionally tim and babs are very very similar characters with similar character. And desu there's a colossal difference between computer literacy and "best hacker in the world", especially now where every single thing is digitalized, nwodays an oracle tier hacker would legitimately be one of the most effective superheroes EVER. And canary and huntress didn't really have ongoing, this was all 3 of their book. Again babs was only the secretary in small supporting roles in other books, she ran a team and was a mother figure to cass and a general mentor for steph. And love interest in dick's book which is by definition a different role. Its a good thing then that batman doesn't actually sit around with the JL, they only group up when they need to. And dude we currently have the basbgirl that oracles as a setup and no one is happy with it. You are getting exactly what you want and its just not working for most people. On an objective measure babs as batgirl in her original 20 years showed up about 92 issues while as oracle 586 times.>>143277570Cass's first and second run both constantly make parells between David and bruce (they even look the same when he was younger) with bruce constantly being framed as cass's new father figure in the same way babs is framed as cass's mother figure. Gavyrch doesn't really do either, but he also doesn't really have bruce and babs but that's due to the seutp. The worst you can say is that its somewhat a one sided dynamic as cass books potray bruce as her father figure but bruce books don't potray cass as his daughter figure (outside of the 4 that do). But bruce as a dad didn't start to come back to that book in force until tim's adoption and damian's introduciton.
>>143279689>And dude we currently have the basbgirl that oracles as a setup and no one is happy with it.She's still either Oracle reduced to mission support or Batgirl reduced to love interest. On their own, they're not bad aspects of her, but it's the reduction to solely those roles that's bad for her. She should be in her own book running a team as Oracle or taking down corrupt megacorps as Batgirl.
>>143279785You got your wish that's how it works here.
>>14327968992 to 586 Jesus fuck.
>>143279785>On their own, they're not bad aspects of herThey're becoming her worst aspects because that's all the writers do with her
>>143279785Blame the editors for whatever the hell Batgirls was and the Birds of Prey launch. Complaining that Batgirl is reduced to love interest in her boyfriend's solo book is kinda dumb.
>>143279355Well said. If "computer literacy is baseline", why does IT still exist? Seriously?
Cass has got the best abs
What do you think, will DC do anything at all for her 25th anniversary (this year)?
>>143281580No.
>>143280460Anecdotally, Generation Z has been brought up on iphones and touch screens. Apps generally "Just work", so they've never had to do trouble shooting or explore the file system, or do any sort of maintenance that millennials had cut their teeth on.
>>143279785That's how that setup WOULD work. We get a murky worst of both worlds to try and keep two different camps happy. And desu, they'd never give her a book for her as batgirl and go with that tone, cause the whole point of making her batgirl is to do a softer tone compared to other books. Plus again, BOP with her in that role just doesn't work, now they're trying to reinvent it (to some greater success sales wise than the other ones) but that is just making her less relevant to it. Cause without the "each member complements" dynamic its just a girl team. And you cant do that if babs is actively in the field.>>143281895Well yeah, that's the point. Plus being able to run a computer doesn't equal being a world class hacker. I do wonder if how much scarier hackers are now is why they do less with that overall.>>143281580Probably not, unless you count her getting her first toy in a decade as that?
>>143281580No, but at least she's in BoP.
>>143282167>they'd never give her a book for her as batgirl and go with that tone, cause the whole point of making her batgirl is to do a softer tone compared to other books.Wasn’t Simone’s Batgirl run know (for better or worse) for being somewhat dark?
>>143282495It was and then they instnatly 180 with the next one. And while her book was dark...it was also not "going against dark enterepises dark" the most consistent dark thing with her evil bro and tkj stuff.
>>143282744Simone's run wasn't any darker than the other Batbooks at the time. It was relentlessly downbeat to the point that Babs read more as low-key suicidal and rendered incompetent by crippling PTSD in a world that actively sought to shit on her every moment.
>>143283012>to the point that Babs read more as low-key suicidal and rendered incompetent by crippling PTSD in a world that actively sought to shit on her every moment.I felt somewhat the same for Castellucci's run.
>>143283053They told Mairghread Scott to make the book darker. Wouldn’t surprise me if they told Castellucci the same.
>>143283012Ah yeah.Still what i mean is more so that the batgirl that oracles thing just likely wont happen given the clear separation between two camps here.
>>143282167>unless you count her getting her first toy in a decade as that?DC didn't do it.
>>143282231Current Birds of Prey is a shit comic with a nonsensical story. I guess that's strictly better than nothing, but we could do so much better.
>>143283592Thank MacFarlane I guess.
>>143281580They didn't do anything for Dick's 40th year as Nightwing, they're not doing anything for the 25th anniversary of the third (fourth?) Batgirl.
>>143285454That's sleek.
>>143285454Greentext please.
>>143285454I know Tim's the gay one, but it's still weird how often he's raiding Dick's closet.
>>143286866Eh i just liked the idea of him as red x rather than red robin. And I mean..nightwing got started by superman and redhood by joker. The robins arent very original at coming up with names.>>143286579In what sense?
>>143285454Nice steph too.
>>143287269Red X would be fun for an arc, but he was at his best as Red Robin.
>>143289604I like the red robin book a lot but dunno if is gree. Tho regardless tim red X for my stuff is basically a rename of tim red robin, the id he takes after robin where he's in a more withdrawn position and bruce is dead/gone, or steph or damian are robin
>>143279689take your meds, namefag
>>143290703I just responded to posts? I have a hard time seeing how that's conducive but ok

>>143209296Nah, Steph's a girly-girl. Cass is more like a dude, dedicated to fighting and improving herself. Steph would rather do bullshit girl stuff and eat trash, which is why most women are in sad shape these days. And she's lazy.
>>143293295>Nah, Steph's a girly-girl.This is your brain on modern DC.
>>143293898Steph tomboy erasure sucks
>>143294849Headcanon, Steph is just a dull everygirl she has no likes or personality.
>>143293295>>143293898>>143294849>>143294874Batgirlfags don't actually read comics. No comics, only coom.
>>143294899No, I read and know anon is referring to Tynion's crap or Batgirls. Unfortunately it's been so long it's basically her character now. It's a shame
>>143294929Who's the other chick
>>143295217Just some girl Steph knew for a single issue. she does look like a proto-Harper Row

>>143296571Whoops, didn't mean to reply. Sorry!
>>143296112>draws steph/cass>draws cass/konWhat is his endgoal?
>>143296791Get as much money from TOCA as possible while continuing to draw his own fav ship.
>>143296791He's cool and does his own thing lol.>>143296958Pftt, I mean he's drawn cass/kon for free too and we're friends overall lol.
Just 28 more posts till we finish up another Batgirls thread!
Steph cleans up nicely.
>>143297539>Tim WayneHe should literally never be allowed to live this down.Tim should have to meet his father's ghost and explain it to him.Jason and Damian should mock him for it at every opportunity.Dick should think it's cringe as fuck but not want to say anything because he knows Tim is a troubled kid with suicidal tendencies.
>>143296791hey now I'll also have you know I draw Tim/Steph as well, for myself even!
>>143297692I just want Steph to get Tim to make out with Cass because she finds the pseudo incest hot.
>>143297739
>>143297733Based hah :P
>>143297692He was adopted desu, and he lost the three (arguably four if you count bart) people to him in quick succession AND then bruce, its not super hard to see him doing that and all.
>>143297692>Tim should have to meet his father's ghost and explain it to him.Jack Drake's probably in hell for grave robbing some cursed tombs.
>>143298933>Rescuing Tim's dad from hellSounds like an interesting quest.
>>143298851They were all adopted.
>>143298960Yep.
>>143298933>>143298955>The lost scepter of Sodom! And it has an inscription- He who pulls this from the pit of Colos shall have his decendants lay with men? What a load of mumbo-jumbo, I'll sell this to the Gotham Museum to pay for Tim's college, which I'm sure he'll attend!
>>143299211>I'll sell this to the Gotham Museum to pay for Tim's college, which I'm sure he'll attend! At least we got to see a bit of college hijinx with Stephanie.
>>143299363But why was the pillow fight between the two hot blondes done off panel?
>>143297733Proof or fake
>>143298960Bruce just keeps finding orphaned boys...I think Wayne Industries made an app for that or something.
>>143299772
>>143298851If it were me, I'd try cloning Stephanie instead.
>>143300355Well, he did try dunking her DNA in some kind of Lazarus pit.
>>143300355Beat me to it >>143300688
>>143299142But Tim (the one with the healthiest and longest lasting relationship with his parents) was the only one to betray their memory and take the Wayne name.
>>143300717While a bit dumb. The fact that so much piled up that fast and then Bruce died...is a mitigating factor.
>>143300355Bros before hoes.
>>143300793Or... bad writing planned for an era where Dick was meant to be dead and Jason was meant to be evil that instead made Tim look like an ungrateful clown and a disrespectful son.
>>143301041True as well. Just saying there's some mitigating circumstances.
>>143301318Are they ever going to play the damsel in distress thing straight with Babs again? Not that I don't mind that she can take care of herself, but when a "subversion" becomes the norm, things are predictable.
>>1433018341 is the best
Happy Batgirls thread, everyone!
