GO LIVE YOUR LIFE'S DREAM BEFORE IT'S TOO LATE!
>>143314635What's the point?
>>143314635It is too late. Im pushing thirty and i was too much of a mentally unstable shit to go to calarts to go into animation plus i was a poorfag who couldnt even afford it even if i wasnt quackin crazy. I have no drive to do any other job besides work in cartoons and the only reason why i dont kms is because itd make my dad sad
>>143314761>he fell for the you have to be educated to draw meme
>>143314761you can just start now, there's no rule that says you can't start at a certain age (unless you're like 80)
>>143314783drawing is hard as fuck though
>>143314761My best friend got a drawing tablet recently and just spends a lot of time drawing. He's in his early 40s. https://youtu.be/y1tjRhLAW-Q?si=98JSiMlLZSIr6gJA
>>143314972ThisIts never too late to start. Hell i got a pen for my android tablet and ibis.>>143314970The motivation to do things is hard as fuck when youve had depression since you were a kid and brain damage from childhood injury.I can understand the shapes and how everything fits together but it doesnt translate
>>143314635Can't, not only am I lazy to draw the dawn comic, My military contract prevents me from doing anything cool for the next 3 years.
>>143314635Kinda gave up on it, to focus on my son he’s got autism pretty bad, shame though I did like comedy.
>>143314972based
>>143314761You ever hear of the manga Ranking of Kings? The guy behind that was a 41 year old office worker who just wanted to draw manga. The art wasn't great, but people loved it anyway. As long as you have a story to tell, anon, just tell it.
>>143315089Well, something is something I guess.
>>143314783I know now from browsing /co/ that calarts is mainly for making connections but the way the animation industry is now i dont even know if itd want to get into it if all id be making is preschool slop>>143314972I have one but i havent used it yet. I really need too>>143315022>military contractRIP my man>>143315960Thanks man im gonna try and get into comics at least now. Itll probably look like sonichu/tails gets trolled but its better then nothing
>>143314635My life's dream is to live like a god in a fantasy world of my own design with my waifu, which is literally impossible.
>>143317162Stop watching garbage like overlord, faggot
>>143317162Just decorate your room and get a AI GF/Whore.
>>143317110Even the guy who made tails gets trolled got pretty good at drawing too. It mat still look shoddy but the composition and rendering skills have improved significantly. Plus it adds to its charm. Also, most of the time you don't really have a choice in what you get to make in the animation industry cause a job is a job, and that suits hard to find without connections and even harder to find one that pays well.
>>143314761>pushing thirty>thinking that's too lateWait until you turn 40.
>>143317557I have no idea what you're even talking about. Go be a retard someplace else.>>143317694That would be a hilariously pathetic attempt at achieving what I want to achieve. Not even close to being the same.
>>143317837> Also, most of the time you don't really have a choice in what you get to make in the animation industry cause a job is a job, and that suits hard to find without connections and even harder to find one that pays well.Yeah thats basically why i got demoralized about the animation industry and my dream of working in it was learning all the cons about it thru /co/ and such. Like its not even worth the hassle anymore imo since everything is becoming fucking toddler slop or getting cancelled/zaslav'd now. Like even IF i get the connections to work on a cartoon itll probably be cocomelon tier. Its not like the animation industry of the early 2010s which i wanted to be involved as anymore
>>143314761Does people unironically think they would have their own cartoon if they just joined the industry? They only make 10 or so new cartoons per year in the US, how many people graduate at cal arts per year? 1000?Nevermind how half of those shows will be beamonth style trash made to look like the other previous shows so it will barely be your own workYour best bet is getting a very well paid job then animate your own web series on youtube as a hobby. You will have a more relevant legacy with a 1 million views video on youtube with an unique style than another identical disney show that will end up in the vault.
>>143315007I think I'm more motivated now, thanks
>>143314761you did yourself a massive favor by not going to art school!
>>143318857Imagine racking up all that debt and 3-4 years of your LIFE just to have a 10% chance of making it!
>>143318869You are better off just getting some good art books and teaching yourself. Worked for this guy.https://davidfinchart.com/where-to-start-and-where-to-go-from-there-a-roadmap-to-professional-quality-art/
I don't have a fear of rejection, but I kind of have a fear of humiliation. Like, I have a few opportunities to try and get a pitch bible in the right hands but I don't want to go through the process of having it passed up or trying to get it off the ground for years while telling my friends and family, who don't understand the industry, and they think, "It's been # of years, nothing's happened yet?". Then I think about the going indie route, but what if it never takes off and never gets even a hundred fans? Now I just have this thing I have to keep working on for an audience of zero and that seems a bit embarrassing, doesn't it? At the end of the day, I don't NEED my ideas to become a show. I don't mind just having them sit in my head while I work on little comics that nobody ever sees. I tell no one about them and they're just fun fantasies. But at the same time, am I going to regret not trying to do something with it? I don't know yet.
>>143318286I admit now it was a pipe dream but yes, for literal years i thought eventually i could get my own show if i joined the animation industry. Those dreams are crushed now by soul crushing reality settling in and because the current state of the animation industry is deplorable to say the least. Even if i could get a job in it now i dont wanna work on cocomelon tier shit, i wanted to work on edgy TV-PG comedies or action cartoons yet none of those even really exist anymore. Also a big dream of mine was going to work at the cartoon network studios building and they just closed that fucker down last year
>>143318857>>143318869I cant read whats in those two picsBut yeah lookin back im glad i didnt go to calarts shit wouldnt have been worth it. Thanks for the advice anyways and the link for >>143318923 btw>>143318997You really should at least try and publish some of your comics anon. Its better then nothing
>>143318997>fear of humiliationAnon most things that generates money or popularity requires some sort of risk taking.Sometimes you just gotta take a few hits before something happens.
>>143319074>I cant read whats in those two picsjust click in the image and it will expand?
>>143319157I did but its a pic for ants
>>143314761I'm 31 and still have fun with my life, but that's cuz I'm not broke. I didn't stop NEET'ing until I was 27
>>143318857nta but i've already graduated from my animation course. the entire time my motivation and inspiration was at its lowest. i find it a little sad how my passion for animation and art came back as soon as i was no longer a student.
>>143319162there's an option to zoom when you hover over it, your mouse turns into a magnifying glass with a plus sign. the words are clearly legible.
>>143319285im on mobile so...
>>143319403oh, i just noticed. images on mobile are compressed for some reason. that's a recent thing
>>143319272modern education isn't build to be fun. It kill your curiosity by making everything feel like a chore to do, prompting you to do the bare minimum to scrap by. When in reality it should make you thrilled do it and do your best.
>>143318923I personally prefer Brent Eviston, he explains the concept of understanding basic shapes to draw better really well.almost retard-proof. anyone can learn to draw
>>143317162With drugs and heavy levels of self delusion, anything is possible, anon.
>>143319194What do you do now?
>>143315960>Office jobI mean, he was living a privileged life and likely saved up to live his dreamOffice workers seem like the majority online because blue collars and Medics literally do not have the time to be online
>>143314635I became a dentist after wanting to be one since the age of 6, so I guess I did it?
>>143319047YouTube is always open for (you)
>>143314635I'M WORKING ON IT, GEEZ
>>143314635Too many things get in the way even if you put in the work
>>143323654good for you anon, good for you.
Secured my dream job before 30 and am spending less time here so I feel like I made it
>>143323820Society needs people like you
>Random cartoon quote thread turns into stealth /r9k/ thread.Every time.>>143314761Everyone is saying it's a good thing that you didn't go to calarts, but be glad you aren't in animation period, 90% of people working there are stuck doing grunt work and are never allowed to execute their creative visions, you are essentially working for slavers. Your problem isn't that you didn't achieve your dream, your problem is your dream sucks, get a better dream.
okay
>>143325196Your mom turns into stealth slut
>>143325196Aren't dreams subjectuve though? What qualifies as a "good drram" in your eyes?
I'm 20 and wanna start drawing soon, I don't have a computer and know nothing about digital art. Any tips?
>>143326131Go to the library and get how to draw books from them, use there copier machine to copy pages you want to focus on on how to draw, since you can’t keep the boom forever.
>>143326131Watch YouTube tutorials on your phone.
>>143325662Anon, you and I both know that whenever someone says "my dream is to be a animator." they mean showrunner. No one says "Hm, yes I would LOVE to just story board for all my life, I have ZERO creative ideas I want to execute, I just want to draw other peoples ideas, forever and ever!"Some people are always stuck in lower stages of life doing menial or not even menial, but high paying labor they don't want, and they tell themselves some day they'll get out of it, be somebody. Kaiji and others tell you this.Meanwhile what they don't tell you is that even MORE people get stuck on the chain of power, they tell themselves>Yeah I'll just get a job doing basic work here and there and work my way up, eventually I'll be able to make it big, I'm already halfway there and in the industry after all! My real career hasn't started yet, I just have to endure until it can!And then they never make it the second half, they just fail, and stay stuck.>What is a good dream in your eyesBeing an animator in a better society than ours, which does not exist and probably won't for another two centuries. You were born shit out of luck kid, sorry.
>>143326131Assuming that you are a beginner at digital art I would recommend some cheaper XP Pen drawing pads from Aliexpress since you can get a cheaper price from the actual company and are protected from faulty products as there is no issue with returns. If you are a beginner at DRAWING not just digital art I'd do what >>143326162does and also torrent some drawing courses. You can make it digital with plenty of apps that do it for free and then add extra color effects in digital art programsIf you have money look into what fits your budget but if not there are plenty of free drawing appsPut off buying the draw pads until you reach a decent skill level and when you first start drawing focus on fundamentals but when it gets boring take breaks and just draw whatever you want even if it doesn't look good you will be able to continue to enjoy drawing rather than give up drawing boxes for the millionth time
>>143325196>>143326206Yeah your right, i have a few other ideas of what i can do with myself instead of being some grunt storyboarder on a fucking johnny test reboot or some equally awful shit
>>143314761>the only reason why i dont kms is because itd make my dad sadSame. Except I'm 35. I really wish my parents would just hurry up and die already.
>>143318997In the same boat anon, stuck overthinking this shitNeed to find some irl art friends I can trust
>>143319047Yeah unless you are japanese your dream is nearly impossible, go youtube as a hobby because Disney and WB will absolutely not going to do it. There is only one Arcane per decade and you will not win the lottery on this one.
My dream is to have my name in the credits of some popular movie or animated tv show or indie project.
The fiction I'm writing has 80 followers. It's gonna be a long way to notability.
>>143327813Exactly theres no point in even trying in animation anymore. CN only makes baby shit now and disney just wants to cancel everything except povenmire slop
>>143326206What qualofies as a "good dream" to you?
>>143318857Stop posting this image, the book was talking about art schools in 2013. Seeing as how good online artists are these days with anatomy, and the fact that I went to art school In 2020 we did life drawing.
>>143318997Dude, do you want to make indies for your fans or for yourself? Because it sounds like your success is deoendant on your fan's reactions, which shouldn't be. Because there will be rainy days, but are you going to follow through anyway?
>>143327741>Need to find some irl art friends I can trustYou'll wait forever then. Those art friends will probably only come when you've established yourself as an artist first. Square up, bitch.
>>143315960thanks for this man, it’s easy to see others who got there shit together earlier and feel only shame. i’ve been feeling like it’s too late and im only 24. i don’t even want a TV show man i genuinely only want ti get practiced /skilled and put shit out online. I think these negative thoughts that eat me alive every time i sit down to practice have been letting up more and more lately and it’s thanks to people like you.
>>143314970And it was hard to learn to walk for you as a baby yet here you are running away from your dreams
>>143332441Holy based
>>143314635Man, I don't think I've ever really had a dream. Just a few thing that I thought "that would be kinda cool if I did that" and never really went through with any of em. I did want to draw as a kid but I was too lazy to learn and now I'm too self loathing and critical to draw without immediately feeling sad.
Why are so many of you guys's dream to draw or animation or something like that???
>>143334827Where do you think we are?
>>143334827>Why do diehard fans of cartoons and comics want to draw?>he says on the comics and cartoons board
>>143335015On /co/ >>143335405I thought most people were just consumers, not creators
>>143328016Godspeed anon, Godspeed
