>It's busted
>Who you calling busted, buster?.... That's right. I'm talking to you, Sid Phillips
>>

I love Toy Story
>>
Tom Hanks sucks so bad
>>
Very different from the rest of the franchise

>this broke Sid's brain so much that he likely had to go through years of therapy and ended up becoming a garbageman because he was otherwise unemployable
>>
>>143315611
>implying being a garbageman is a bad job
It's better than being a retail slave. You get good pay and good benefits.
>>
>>143315452
>break the rules
So, which rules are these?
>>
>>143315619
Wait, really?
>>
>>143315611
>working under one of the most secure Unions in the country
>clocks out by early afternoon
>making around $60-90k a year given his suburbs route
>great pension
>reliable job security
Sounds like Sid got a sweet deal to me.

Toy Story 1, the Brad Bird movies (The Incredibles and Ratatouille) and the Andrew Stanton movies (Finding Nemo and WALL-E) are different from all the rest of Pixar's filmography.
>>
>>143315511
This was probably even more disturbing to a lot of people at the time because they hadn't grown accustomed to CGI detail animated movies.

Sanitation is one of the most secure jobs in the nation. The Garbagemen Union in NYC (Local 831) is basically untouchable.
>>
>>143315667
Would you try to fuck with the pay and benefits of someone who can dump a half ton of used diapers on your lawn?
>>
>>143315667
Yes. It's not glamorous, but it is essential. Same with janitors, frankly. It's amazing how dirty things get when janitors/garbage men go on strike. It's looked down on because it's dirty and smelly, and I guess you don't need much of a brain to do it. But like I said, it's incredibly important.
>>
just think, this entire movie takes place in one week.

Every Pixar film until Up was so full of life and serious passion. The famous lunch Lasseter, Doctor, Stanton, and Ranft had together right before Toy Story wrapped up were everyone was brainstorming ideas for what their next films should be, and how they have the ability to create the most touching and creative stories through the visualization of 3D computer-generated animation, as in those days was still new to so many people and seen as the most revolutionary thing in modern film.

Then all of a sudden the magic went away.
>>
>>143316273
and the second one takes place in less than 3 days.
>>
>>143315667
Garbage men make very good pay with very good health benefits and job security.
Considering Sid got his foot in the door early, he's basically set for life.
>>

Andy went to camp for a month
>>
>>143315664
>no talking or moving freely while humans are around
>no scaring children
The real question is who made these rules and why does every toy seem to know them?
>>
>>143315705
It's funny how as a kid I found that character completely terrifying, but then immediately warmed up to it when I learned it was friendly. Context really is anything. Don Bluth was onto something when he said "You can subject kids to anything as long as you attach a happy ending" or whatever the quote was.

so play nice

Y'know I hadn't really considered that, Toy Story (and many fully CG films by extension) must've been TERRIFYING at the time
>>

Thanks to comic books, we also know those therapy ramblings included stuff about closet monsters.

Has anyone noted that by the time Toy Story 5 comes out, the very concept of children's toys will be outdated? This keeps me up at night...
>>
>>143319223
what are you talking about Anon? I still see kids playing with toys. Not every zoomer or gen alpha is an iPad kid.

I was a kid and I remember seeing this when it came out. I don't remember being shock and awed by CG. I don't know if adults were blown away by the tech at the time, but for a kid, you had other areas of CG exposure before you came into contact with Toy Story, like video games and a lot of shows and commercials were experimenting with it. I remembered Ecco the Dolphin's 3D cutscenes as looking photorealistic until I decided to revisit them on YouTube. Even for stuff like The Mask, I remember the effects looking seamless. Of course now, you can spot how obviously CG it is. But at the time, it was all you knew, so you never viewed CG as uncanny or bizarre-- it was just like... that's what it looks like.
>>
>>143316283
>until Up
just because you're not supposed to like that movie here doesn't make it any less of a pure Pixar movie, come on now.
>>
If anything this movie made me more sadistic to my toys as a kid
>Talk

>Very well. Ve have vays of making you talk, Herr He-Man
>>
>>143318014
base instinct, which his schizo internal narrative rationalized as a survival method
>>
>>143321273
The Mask and especially Jurassic Park still look good to me. The latter especially I still struggle to pick out when it's CG and when it's animatronics. Back to the Future Part 2 has a lot of CG in the 2015 section that isn't immediately noticeable, and that movie was made in 1989.
>>
>>143315452
Is it really true that they're going to make another TS movie? What's could even be about?
>>
I’m surprised Sid didn’t end up becoming this one schizo that would try to prove toys are cursed.
Wonder what hobby he took after toys ruined his childhood
>>
Sid is making 6 figures with OT with a union job,
while Andy is going to be 6 figures in debt graduating college only to be laid off by his corporate owners because they offshored his job to China and hired Jeets to replace him.

Sid is the one with the last laugh
>>
>>143316716
you sure? because there is NO way Buzz and the gang were on the street for a month.
>>
>Hannah! Hey, Hannah!
>What?
>Did I get my package in the mail?
>I don't know
>What do you mean you don't know?
>I. Don't. Know
I like that small exchange between Sid and his sister
>>
>>143323179
He's wrong. TS2 takes place in less than 3 days.
>>
>Sid's dog chases Buzz to a room. The dog pokes his head through the door, sees that Sid's father is asleep while surrounded by beer cans, and then leaves to not wake him up, not caring that Buzz is inside
This is different from other Pixar movies
>>
>>143320413
Kids still play with toys and watch cartoons, the thing is every year the age bar for them decreases, if a 8 years old kid plays with toys the others will call them a baby
That's why companies are trying to make toddler cartoons
>>
>>143323540
So that's why "THE AMAZING DIGITAL CIRCUS" has been such a success!
>>
>>143315493
I don't see how. All the movies revolve around the same ideas and characters and have the same tone and art style.
>>
>>143323474
Because it implied an abusive father?
>>
>>143317063
It's weird that Buzz Lightyears don't know they're toys at first, yet they apparently all follow these rules too. Maybe it's some kind of instinct toys have that they have to try really hard to override.

Well, you can indeed consider plushies and action models toys, so I guess toys have never really disappeared, it's just that the target audience is all over the place now.

I remember being a kid and the concepts of movies being magical. Before I learned about
2d animation
Cg animation
Practical effects
Digital effects
A small time when you just watched a movie and took everything in. The idea of this is fake, but your brain still enjoying it.

Cheeky brat..
>>
I kinda like how Toy Story 1 lowkey has a few "musical" scenes ("you got a friend in me", during the intro; "strange things are happening to me", during when Woody is pissed off at Buzz; "sailing no more", when Buzz is at his lowpoint). In that regard, it's totally different from the other Pixar films. These scene are almost musical, in the sense that the songs are expressing the emotions of the characters, but it's not recognizable as being 90's Disney.
>>
A Bug's Life was a downgrade from this movie in almost every aspect.
>>
>>143315452
God this kid scared me more than any other Disney or Pixar villain.

Don't forget you also work for the CITY and not some shithead corporation. So you can actually be proud of your job, have steady hours, and get all federal holidays off.

Garbagemen are based. Except for the garbagemen who service my apartment complex because they leave bags of trash fucking everywhere.

If garbagemen went on strike cities would be physically uninhabitable within a matter of two weeks
