Gonna be posting Cap 111-113. Featuring two issues drawn by Steranko and one Kirby with Lee on all three. Bump if you're reading and check that cool cover. Really makes you want to listen to some cool spy music.
so cool.
Cap had a sort of off and on secret identity. Thanks a lot 2nd grade history class.
Madame Hydra
Rick Jones; Professional side kick, was currently acting as the new Bucky for a bit.
Pack your bags, Rick. You're going on a trip.
Tell me Steranko doesn't do the best splash pages. I'll call you a liar.
Captain America dead? Steve Rogers a false identity? What a shocking twist!
Jack "the king" Kirby tags in for an album issue. Whatever that means. It's mostly a recap issue. Hah. Re Cap.
I feel like even in t he 60s they were being half sarcastic with that SO SHOCKING blurb.

Back when Tony was more Howard Hughes than RDJ.
You don't see many old timey bombs with wicks anymore.
Bucky did not give a single fuck.

JESUS CHRIST!!
Where the hell was this add when I was in high school?!
I once again, enthusiastically, reiterate that Steranko is the best at splash pages. I want to get this printed and hang on my wall.
I don't know a lot of art terms but I like the way the color does.... it's thing as the page goes down
GET PUMPED! GET INSPIRED!
GET A STUNT FLYING PLANE FOR ONLY A DOLLAR!
such a cool onomatopoeia
Boom.
Looks like we're gonna have to jump! But yes. Cap's identity is a secret once more I guess. That's how stuff works. We've seen weirder ways to resolve that issue.
Sensei Wallace.
Letter page.
Get swole.
Any of you guys draw? Looking for work?
And that's our issue. Hope you read it. Saw at least one dude. For some reason I swear I remember Steranko doing more Cap books but I think this might be it.
>>143342762My favorite page out of these issues. Does the rest of 60s-era Cap look this dang good?
>>143343097There is something about Cap's outfit where I feel like he should be able to wear it in any era and have it feel completely natural. I think the fact that it's deliberately old-fashioned in-universe helps elevate it for me from hokey spandex to something actually cool and badass. Even when standing among other, more modern and maybe even cooler superhero costumes, he'll still be rocking the little pegasus wings and the fish scales unapologetically. That's beautiful to me
>>143344727Steranko only did a few issues sadly. Most of the 60s was either Kirby or Romita Sr. There's some pretty great pages still throughout so art wise there's certainly no complaints from me but if you're like for that kind of trippy Steranko style? Maybe not quite so much.>>143344745It's actually interesting how little the outfit has changed over the years. Some artists like to give a bit more detail to the chain mail and it's certainly still a shift from the 1940s version but even late into the 90s and 2000s the classic look still worked just as well. It's nice.
Captain America with a secret identity feels strange to me.
>>143345313You should check out some of the Roger Stern issues then. Cap trying to lead a civilian life was honestly pretty great.
>>143343260OH BOY!!Selling Grit for fun and profit!
>>143343554An android is susceptible to gas?
>>143343071>>143343086>Namor getting mad about people worshiping an ice cubeNarcissistic fella isn't he?
>>143347230Damn near anything sets the fucker off.
Thanks, OP.
cool
>>143342752>>143342762>>143343250>>143343292I love these pages.
>>143344784Gene Colan took over for Steranko because Marvel couldn't trust him to make his deadlines and he couldn't trust them to not fuck with his art. There are several places in the stories where you can see Romita or Sinnott redrew Cap's head.As for the costume, why mess with perfection? Captain America is one of the classic looks in comics.
>>143342775>rick is kidnappedThey better hope to god that Hulk never finds out.
