Has a reboot ever been better than the original show?
>>144333969Do Batman TAS and Superman TAS count? If so then then.Somebody will say TMNT, but they're wrong.
Yes. I can think of three times that's happened. It's very rare but it can happen.
>>144333989I would say no to all three of those being reboots. They're all adaptations. A reboot is something different from another adaptation of source material.
>>144333969Scooby-Doo! Mystery Incorporated
>>144333969any TMNT series
>>1443339692000s He-Man show.
>>144333969There are /a/ examples (Cutie Honey, Devil Man) but that's different. I don't think there are any /co/ examples.
>>144333989Of course the original DCAU counts.I will add Thundercats 2011.
>>144333969Does Space Ghost Coast 2 Coast count? And Harvey Birdman: Attorney At Law?
>>144333969The Heathcliff cartoons by DiC were better than the ones made a few years earlier by Ruby-Spears. But that might be a situation like this one >>144334001
It's strange how the original Flintstones, Jetsons, Yogi Bear, Jonny Quest, Scooby-Doo, Rocky & Bullwinkle, and George of the Jungle are all still the best. You'd think we could make better cartoons than we did in the 1960s, yet here we are.
The Thing
>>144333969yes
>>144334132Has there ever been a reboot of a 70s cartoon before? That would have to be better than the original, right?
>>144334266None that I can think of.Companies don't make reboots with the aim of improving upon the original, they do it to mine a successful IP as a means to make cheap money. With an emphasis on "cheap", hence why almost all cartoon reboots are trash.
>>144334318Also because registering character name and likeness costs money. If you already paid that money.....
>>144333969Yes.
>>144334132It's hard to make a cartoon funnier than Jay Ward.
>>144334538*It's hard to make a radio show funnier than Jay Ward
>>144334661It's funny that Chuck said this when most of his best cartoons have extremely limited animation.
>>144334673I don't care what Chuck Jones said, I just think it is a funny joke. Also, limit animation all you want, Chuck could actually make it MORE more interestingly (characters move differently depending on situation, mood, etc) when they do move. Rocky & Bullwinkle for example while not completely terrible, does not have interesting movement for the characters. The professional term is character animation (don't move everyone at the same speed and intensity all the time).
>>144334699It might be funny but Chuck meant it in a disparaging way, as he usually did. He was talented guy who made some good cartoons, but he was also an ornery old git.
>>144334719Kind of like Hayao Miyazaki.
I'm almost certainBut as always happens in these situations I can't think of an example
>>144333969Super Secret Secret Squirrel
>>144333969I think X-Men 97 is better than the original by a large margin. But we'll see if I still think that come season 2
>>144334724Yep, exactly
>>144334764Okay....... fuck it, I'm calling it./threadA proper home media release, THAT DOES NOT LOOK LIKE SHIT, when?
>>144334769>a sequel is a reboot
>>144333969Horse Cartoon
>>144333969she-ra reboot is much better than the original
>>144333969Thundercats 2011 i'd argue is way better than the original. As well as He-Man 2002 and even He-Man CGI i found myself enjoying more than the original and being functionally superior.4Kids TMNT was better than the 80's one (fite me) and i'm not sure if it counts, but the 3 Caballero's the series is way better than the movie and has nothing to do with it, so i'd count it as a reboot..
>>144334851Thems fighting words They are also however true words.
>>144333969Mystery Incorporated had an interesting overarching plot, fleshed out the characters more, and was still funny on top of all that, plus the art style was stylish without being jarringly different (like Be Cool Scooby Doo or the live action films)
>>144334860
>>144334847Oh yeah, that.
>>144333969Yes
>>144333969Real Adventures of Jonny Quest
>>144336562ew, no
>>144334132jellystone clears all these, sorry boomer
>>1443365792/10
>>144334764this. i marathoned the OG series, it was nothing but boring bad puns and one liners wasted on two very talented VAs (Mel Blanc and Paul Frees)
>>144336568He's not wrong, but the original series is still good shit.
My brother who has seen all turtles series but Rise (refused to finish it) and Next Mutation (wanted to fight me when I tried to put it on) says 2003 turtles is best.
The ultimate redpill is realizing that the best TMNT is still the original comic.>but it gets retarded eventuallyThis is true for every single TMNT comic, cartoon or movie series
>>144336598The Real Adventures of Jonny Quest managed to take one of the greatest action/adventure cartoons ever and turn it into an average 90s cartoon with some shit-awful CG thrown in for bad effect.
>>1443365830/10, you couldn't pay me to sit through that shit unless you grew up with it and it's the first cartoon you've ever seen. even then it gets btfo'd by actual good boomer cartoons like looney toons and tom and jerry. wake up.
>>144336773Jellystone is for zoomer faggots. But you know that already. Your game needs some more work, but I'll give it a 3/10. One extra point for getting two replies.
>>144336791you're the one baiting. you really can't come up with a better argument than "zoomer faggot?" to be fair, i couldn't defend hanna-barbera either. literally unwatchable.
>>144336711(You)
>>144333969The mighty mouse reboot made by Ralph bakshi
2003 TMNT falls apart near the end (due almost entirely to executive meddling mind you, fucking suits) but overall it's a very competent product and I think it's superior to the original 1980s cartoon overall.
>>144336961I love the original Mighty Mouse. It's a fun superhero parody series that feels like a product of its time in the best sense.I've never seen the reboot. What's so great about it?
>>144336562Real Adventures wasn’t bad, but it’s still weaker than the OG. New Adventures was pretty mediocre. The only reboot of Johnny Quest that managed to surpass the original was Venture Bros.
>>144334764This is the only example in this thread that is correct.
>>144336988It's actually pretty terrible, though it is interesting for being something of a proto-Ren & Stimpy.
>>144334851Yeah OG She-Ra just doesn't have the iconic shit OG He-Man does. Nu She-Ra actually gives more pizzaz and all.
