I don't believe Wells actually read Spencer's Sin-Eater arc, nor do I think Wells went back to read his own story when he did the sin possessed Peter thing. Shouldn't Norman be reduced to a whimpering shadow of himself like he was before as Gold Goblin?

Spider-Man editorial always deserve their share of the blame, but this wasn't Spencer's first big Marvel run that ended in a confusing, unsatisfying incomprehensible mess that dropped plots outright and contradicted itself. If it happened once maybe it was all editorial's fault, if it keeps happening maybe he's a writer whose ambition exceeds his ability and editorial not reigning him in until it's too late is the problem.
