I've started using colour more though because you need to go out of your comfort zone and experiment with different things as an artist. I do like to think I've been improving as I go along even if I can be my worst critic. I also will favour doing an image in colour if I feel it helps distinguish things better, so you can more easily tell characters apart at a glance, or if they are wearing a specific outfit different than usual.
