Peter has one of the most iconic looks in comics, so lets talk about it. What are some of your favorite variations from over the years, both in comics and in films? What makes a good Spidey costume?
I'll try and post a few that come to mind. Like the new F4 Suit here for example
Captain Universe
Superior
Future Foundation
>>144614609>no webs>boring shade of blue>middling attempts at abstract looking gloves and boots>generic logo inside of a white circle>no sleevesVery uninspired. The slapped on "5" from the 70s was more creative than this.
Peak 90s design.
>>144614690A lot of popular Spidey suits don't have web decals. That F4 suit is obviously supposed to invoke their uniform, which it does.
You know what always drove me nuts about the Iron Spider suit? The fact that it had THREE mechanical legs instead of four. Why, Tony?
What's the appeal of this suit? I keep seeing it being called top tier
>>144614879It looked better on May anyway. My question is why is Last Stand so beloved? It's a jacket and jeans
You know I.....don't hate this suit. It's also kinda weird that this is what MCU Peter wore the most >Infinity War>Endgame>Far From Home>No Way Home
>>144615253I hate it desu. It's just far too drab and lifeless to me. That shiny CG nanotech aesthetic of a lot of these latter-day MCU costumes really sucks.
>>144615350How would you rank the MCU suits?
>>144614879>Big spider on a variation of the classic suit>The big web shooters call back to Ben's roots as the scarlet spider>Giant Bagley eyesI like it
Hellfire Gala costume is sweet
>>144614879I don't know. But it gives me a magical feeling that I can't describe.
>>144615453Well, since you asked.S-tier:>original Civil War suit used in filming before they pasted a CGI redesign over it in post>HomemadeA-tier:>FFH red-and-black suit>NWH end suitB-tier:>Civil War/Homecoming C-tier>Iron Spider>Night Monkey>NWH black-and-gold suit>NWH red-and-gold suitI really only like the two in S-tier. Everything else ranges from just alright to outright crap for me. I think they keep dropping the ball on MCU Spidey outfits, especially since they keep changing his look multiple times a movie for the toys and then slather them in CGI anyways.
>>144614609Wrong FF costume
>>144614879Ben's take on the suit. Why it isn't in the insomniac games I have no idea
The thing about the MCU Iron Spider suit is that in a weird way, I kind of respect it for trying to be different. Let's face it, this take isn't comic Spidey. Heck I like Insomniac Peter better than MCU Peter. However given context and what it is, I can accept it. FFH suit is alright too
>>144615689Too busy into forcing the poochie.
>>144615689There's a lot of suits missing in 2. For example the MK1 isn't in 2 for some reason. Maybe they'll add the comic suits MIA later? I'm watching SDCC this week to see if Insomniac announces more suits, DLC, or some Wolverine news.MK1 is great by the way
>>144614879Fewer details have to be omitted in wide shot panels or small panels when Spider-Man has to be drawn too small to show the webbing pattern.
>>144615747I like the inverted look they did for no way home
>>144614730Yeah fuck the white suit and especially the Spider Verse suit
It's peak . Now the real question to ask around here though...What highlight colors do you like the best for this? For me, it's white and purple.
>>144615747>I like Insomniac Peter better than MCU PeterI used to think the same, until the second game fucked up everything so much it made me appreciate the MCU versions more. At least i never got the impression that these movies hate Peter Parker.
>>144615821You mean that god awful inside out suit?
>>144615844Oh please. Insomniac doesn't hate Peter. We disagree, that's clear. I can't get behind a lot of MCU Peter
>>144614579Still peak, but so was 80s spidey
>>144615840>>144615905Would you have preferred it if they kept the original red logo color?
>>144614579Fixed it.
>>144615947The white kinda works better even though black with red is still its own cool
>>144616027Ruined is more like it.
>>144615947Nah I like the black and white, I also prefer grey Joe Fixit hulk and Magnetos Xmen and storm with a Mohawk. I just like 80s marvel
>>144616027What did you do?
>>144616208Something wonderful.
>>144615840Purple is the best

>>144616496I’m gonna be that guy and say that technically Prodigy isn’t a Spider-Man suit
>>144614579who did the classic suit better, macfarlane or romita sr?or do like the darker ditko outfit with the underarm webs?
>>144616998Bottom pic is better
>>144616998Romita all day, every day.
Favorite slightly altered suit is the first Superior costume. It has just enough changes to have it's own flavor while still being distinctly Spider-Man for 99% of audiences.
>>144617291Same suit.
>>144617291>>144617308I love both (first one slightly edges out the second). It makes sense for Otto to only make minor alterations to the suit since he’s gotta get used to being Peter. But once he’s gotten used to it and fooled everyone he can go ahead and design a suit all his own that even has mechanical spider legs like his old octopus arms
>>144615504that just looks like a Miles suit
Really. It's easy guys.
>>144617406It's a damn fine look.
>>144617364His second costume has slowly grown on me. Still not in my top list, but far from the bottom.
>>144614579Iconic
>>144617448>>144617364I actually think that's Spock's second superior suit. THis was the one I was originally thinking of.
>>144614879It looks good, I don't know what else to tell you anon. It'd not my personal favorite but I can easily see the appeal.
>>144616998Romita Sr, no question. Macfarlane's Spidey works better as a toy, but not on print.
>>144615119The jacket's ugly too.
I have a softspot for the Ends of the Earth suit
>>144614579The reason spider's suit has always for the longest time is the eyes. They are big and expressive. Meaning artists can convey emotion easily. It makes the look easily memorable.
I adore the black suit. NOt just because it's sexy, but because it serves a thematic purpose. It announces to the Marvel universe that Pete is in a *cranky* mood and to be avoided. He's literally torn chunks of face off and I'm not just referring to the Kravinoff's.
>>144617406>>144617424The perfect example of a design that really should look awful but just works somehow.
>>144617448It's a really good suit, regardless of how retarded the comic that spawned it was. I do much prefer it as drawn in your pic compared to the Ramos abomination version from >>144617478
>>144617528>It announces to the Marvel universe that Pete is in a *cranky* mood and to be avoidedthat was more of a 90s inventionright after secret wars, there was effectively no downside for the first few years of its existence and it taking him on night time excursions was just to give an excuse to bring back the good old red and blueiirc, the black suit was just easier to draw because it didnt have the web pattern
>>1446145792099Black suitFuture FoundationNoirASM2
>>144617563No anon, he's talking about how in the modern day, any time Peter puts on the black suit it's to symbolize that he's in "no longer fucking around" mode. Think Back in Black.
>>144617550I think it especially looked good under Stegman's pencils.
>>144614579Barely a variation honestly, but I really love the classic suit specifically when it's done with red/black scheme and with the armpit webs.
I don't like it in the game and the arm talons weapons are stupidBut the Fear Itself suit looks good on this one picture
>>144615119Costumes that mix with casual attire hit different. Sorta like a quick-change suit but actually themed around your color palette and shit
I actually quite like his Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 design
>>144614579I wanted his costume since I was 4 years old.
Web weaver
>>144614879In an era where a lot of other heroes got suits that were ugly as sin, this was very refreshing
What if I wanna make my own Spider-suit?Not just as a drawing, but irl.
>>144617454This!
the 70s japanese suit is one of my favorites
Recency bias and all that but the updated suit in rivals is like a 7 on a good day for me.
>>144614631this suit would look better without the red on the mouth
>>144616998Dikto.
>>144616998I want Ditko's dark blues and armpit webbings with Romita Sr's everything else with MacFarlane's webbing
>>144614579I’ll give Jim Shooter credit. The audacity of changing Spidey’s suit back in 1984 created a lot of news and hype.At the time, DC could never….
>>144620898>Character is a acrobat on crack>Give him massive rigid shoesBleh
>>144622294I'm on the opposite side of the spectrum, I like the boots to lean more into street brawler vibes. He's a melee hero in this right?
>>144622478I dunno. I feel like he should be a tank considering his spider sense.
>>144614579I grew up with Mark Bagley in ASM (and reprints of Ditko), and I always thought he drew the best spider-man eyes, big lenses in the mask for plenty of peripheral vision.
>>144622294Let the spider have timbs nobody thinks about his feet needing to stick with a lot of the suits anyway so I welcome shoes every once in a while. Like with last stand and ITSV even tho those are more casual.>>144622501Yeah but you can't have him and venom in the same role plus spider sense seems like cheating if implemented well in a competitive game.
>>144622690>Let the spider have timbsMiles after Peter says he’d look stupid in them
>>144617406>>144617424>>144614730>>144617454>>144617516I really wish they'd have put more effort into Miles' suit so that it had its' own character. It's not like it can't be done as has been shown in this thread. This isn't a dig at miles, just the laziness of his suit design from the creative team that made him.
>>144622933Timbs are for the people Pete as a New Yorker would definitely be stompimg around in them
>>144623055The question is what hasn't been done with Peter that wouldn't make Miles look like a black or hispanic caricature. Because otherwise people will just say it's just stealing from Peter.
>>144623194Kaine's costume is a good example of something that stands out without having any cultural heritage accents to it.You can do a lot without giving Miles' costume an afrro and sombrero
>>144617291I hate that my favorite Spider-Man costume is attached to something so, so, so, so awful.
>>144617291I also like how Peter still had a lingering effect on the way how he acted. With the unintended quips and mannerisms.
>>144622690Venom should be DPS. He can turn invisible and can suffocate his enemies with his tendrils.
I'm fine with suits that are only okay, they can't all be amazing, what I and no one else should tolerate are the suits that are just bad with little to no redeeming qualities.
>>144623952The fuck were they thinking with thishttps://youtu.be/ThAJdp1-Oy0
>>144624017They weren't.
>>144614579Black is superior, though I like the original Spider-Woman suit too and feel like it has more proper design going on since it's not just a complete palette swapBut the black suit looks so good that maybe sometimes if it works you don't need anything more complex
>>144617499Why did Big Time introduce a new suit every couple of issues that were never used again afterward?
>>144615119It's neat plus it has pulp hero vibes, the jacket being pretty identical to Rocketeer's and the quick-change element of it is fun. Jacket can be turned over for a civilian look and you can just hide the gloves and mask into it's pockets. It also probably gets plus points for being Last Stand aka Peter's final moment even if it's an alternative future. Overall it's a better casual look then throwing on normal clothes over a costume and calling it a day.
Spider-Bump
>>144623055The suit he ended up with at the end of Into the Spider-Verse was his best by far, actually had loads of character and felt like his own spin on the classic Spider-Man design, especially with the optional streetwear stuff he could have on or off depending on his mood. Like yeah to an extent it was kind of just "Spider-Man but ((urban))" but it felt organic to the character in that particular case. Everything they've given him before and after in comics, movies, and games have all just felt either super generic or extremely out of touch designs by retards trying to seem hip.
>>144623952God it's so fucking awful, the fact that you're forced to use that thing for the entire final leg of the story and have characters directly referring to it as though it's not hot dogshit was so infuriating. THEY MADE ME TAKE OFF MY FUCKING ZOOT SUIT FOR THIS SHIT.
>>144621931I agree on a technical level but Spider-Man doing some dumb shit like just keeping the mask where the mouth should be gives me a giggle so I still kind of like it.
>>144626188Most of Miles suit are just too close to Pete's black suit (black + spider and maybe some other touches of colour here and there). I'd have liked a good original design... but not the gay-twink red hoodie shit they slapped on him. That was original, yes, but it looked like ass.The adidas suit was so soulessly corpo it was kinda amazing....Do they just get their b-team to design shit for Miles? Is it sabotage?
>>144626281If you're talking about the 10th anniversary suit it's grown on me. It admittedly looks like ass when a lot of the artists draw it tho.
>>144626281>>144626281>Do they just get their b-team to design shit for Miles?I'm fairly certain they specifically ask for designs only from young POC artists for him so they can be authentic to his lived experience or whatever. So yes.
>>144615119It’s one of those that looks dumb on a nice sunny day but becomes kino in a dark stormy fight scene. Which is where it debuted.
>>144626301Goddamn, you'd have thought one of those people would've wanted Miles to look cool instead of like a fuckboi... not broken-buck type fuckboi, just a little bitch type.
>>144626281>I'd have liked a good original designI maintain that this one right here works great as "familiar, but original". There's enough distinct design choices that it's clear that it's not Peter or just an alt suit he had lying around, but it's also instantly recognizable as being a Spider-Man suit, not not other tangentially related character. Even with the hoodie and shorts and sneakers off, you still get a lot of distinct flair with the unique shoulder design, the way the color fades from the fingers into the arms, the fact that it's a black/red suit but with the slight color variation on the webbing, and the red outlines on the eyes. And then they ditched it immediately in the sequel for what looks like a knockoff adidas tracksuit.
>>144626355That's the thing, those are the faggots who think fuckbois look cool unironically
>>144624289I guess to kind of indicate that he has all those designs cooking but never had the means to make them a reality. “Hey guys, did you know Peter is basically spider themed Iron Man but poor? Now he can make ten million superfluous costumes too!”
>>144626377The only unique element, really, is the graffiti spider.Wearing steet-wear over the costume isn't doing anything to set it apart. Pete also wears his costume under his street-clothes, but he webs up the street-wear to keep it from getting ruined while fighting crime. The Scarlet Spider outfits (Kaine's 2-colour leotard and Ben's leotard+shirt) are more original/distinct from Pete's, and they're from his actual clones. That being said, I could understand people dissing Ben's suit. It's just a mono-colour suit with a shirt over it (and wrist things? I think he kept those wrist things on the scarlet spider suit)
>>144626462>The only unique element, really, is the graffiti spider.and the black-on-black webbing, the red detailing around the shoulders/chest, the way the colors blend at the hands, and the color choices for the eyes...You know, all the specific details I called out already. They're not anything wildly unique on their own, but they're all intentional choices to help set the whole costume apart.
>>144626462The graffiti is enough for me giving the context and how it isn't just the logo. The gloves, shoulder and feet bleeding out from under the paint and the subtle silver webbing all work so well. The webbing especially because depending on the light and angle it can look all black for whatever reason you need it to which makes it weirder that they ditched it. They could of literally had their cake and eat it two. could even say it's two cakes
>>144626531>black-on-black webbing, the red detailing around the shoulders/chest, the way the colors blend at the hands, and the color choices for the eyes...No to all of that.Swapping colours around doesn't mean the design elements are original.
>>144626612To clarify, when I said I wanted an original look, I meant it. Colour-swapping and mix-and-matching shit from Pete's costume isn't an original look. Miguel had an original look with the tattered webbing-cape thing and day-of-the dead skull spider. It was original shit.
>>144626612By that standard how are the Scarlet Spiders anything but color swapped Peters?
>>144623055I think what they were going for was that if Peter's first suit was red and black, Miles' would be black and red, the colors were swapped.I'm not really sure why Miles was given lightning and invisibility, some spiders do have great camouflage and some can paralyze you with their bites, but that's not how either of his powers work and neither of them are incorporated into his actual design.
>>144626643They are Peter clones. Isn’t Miles supposed to be doing his own “thang”? You disingenuous fag.
>>144626612But the design elements literally are original. Just look at that suit and Peter's side-by-side, all the shapes are different apart from the general silhouette and the eyes being... eye shaped.
>>144626713>Imma do my own thang!!!>Rips off from PeterYeah, real “original”
>>144626695You're the one being disingenous, you're changing your argument every few seconds. One minute Miles is less original than Ben and Kaine because his costume is just a recolor of Peter'sThe next they're allowed to be recolors because they are clones so it's not unoriginal We get it, you hate him for replacing PeterYou don't have to keep arguing
>>144626733That quote doesn't really mean much in this context considering they weren't referring to his fashion sense. The better one even tho it's still wrong in this context is "a miles morales original"
>>144614579Is Mary Jane still cucking him with Paul? That's the most important thing to any conversation about him.
>>144614579>What are some of your favorite variations from over the yearsScarlet Spider is objectively the bes costume Spider-man ever had. This costume doesnt have sex, it FUCKS, like Paul fucks MJ.
>>144626846>all that baitIt's a good costume, but I always liked his Spider-Man costume better.
>>144626377This suit is such a great metaphor about Miles taking the mantle while doing it his own way. I kinda wish they never made a sequel because the movie is great as it is.
>>144626846>perfectly translate the costume to 3D>but Ben is a dumb parodyFUCK
Wait, if we hate Miles for replacing Peter and everyone seeing him as the better one, does that mean we have to hate Mayday too?
>>144627557Mayday had the dignity of having a own villains though. But to be honest, her comics is okayish and it obviously ride on her father coattails.
>>144626695no webbing, different ways of breaking up the colours, different accessoriesOther than the eyes and the insignia, there's not much from Pete's costume in the Scarlet Spider ones (well, the one that Mayday wore is a totally informed by Pete's costume, but I'm not talking about that one)
>Suit thread>Still find a way to turn the thread into a Miles whining threadThe fuck is wrong with you faggots holy shit
>>144622644I fucking hate Bendis, and Bagley by association.
>>144626654Yeah Miguel is the one with actual paralyzing venom. The real reason Miles has electricity powers is cause he’s black
>>144627224Another finger on the Spider-monkey paw curls
>>144627224Don't forget>Perfectly replicate Tom Lyle's artstyle specificallyThat makes it sting even more
>>144627602Miles does have his own villains though.
>>144627557Mayday requires a live Peter to replace.Miles requires a dead Peter to replace. If a dead Peter isn't available, Miles requires an origin that requires Peter being wildly out of character and saying "why yes, I do think it's a good idea for you to fight Electro, small child!"
>>144630185>If a dead Peter isn't available, Miles requires an origin that requires Peter being wildly out of character and saying "why yes, I do think it's a good idea for you to fight Electro, small child!"JESUS CHRIST THIS. I can not wrap my brain around Peter being fine with another kid going thru all the shit he did being Spider-Man. Has this ever been brought up? All the Peter/Miles interactions I’ve seen has been Peter being like “I think it’s great you’ve decided to be Spider-Man, kid!”
>>144630550>. Has this ever been brought up?To the best of my knowledge, this is the closest we get.Mayday didn't get Pete's approval till, like, issue 30 or so.
>>144630620I can’t believe Miles has been in 616 for ten fucking years and there still hasn’t been an actual 616 origin for him. It’s like they just don’t care and know there’s no point in trying to make readers care about him.
>>144631102Last I was paying attention, he found out he wasn't actually from 616, did they ever do anything with that?
