But haven't been relevant in decades.

Seriously when was the last time anything significant happened with Rocky and Bullwinkle? I feel like everyone recognizes them but they haven't done anything big since the movie in the late 90s.
>>
>>144628574
Wasn't there a reboot nobody even knew about? I actually heard decent things about it.
>>
>>144628574
They got their own movie 24 years ago

Deniro was in it lmao
>>
>>144628590
It was on Amazon Prime, I think. The Johnny Test guy produced or directed it. Make of that what you will.

In retrospect it's pretty funny that one of the most popular cartoons pre-1980s was basically just 163 episodes of "Russia bad"
It would be like if the primary villain of Spongebob was some middle eastern terrorist guy.

While I think of Rocky & Bullwinkle being pretty versatile as characters, they are kind of one-note in that respect. But it was also smart of Ward and the rest of the crew to make it Rocky & Bullwinkle a variety show with more to offer/going on than one might expect

If anything, I'd kill to see Dudley get his own revival series

I was referring to the cereal commercials having a bigger budget and more animation.
>>
>>144632047
It was meant to be a Bullwinkle-styled ad-lib on how cheap and crummy the original cartoon was.

Is that the one that got stuck in development hell, then the final film was stashed in its cans on a shelf and never released?
Or was that some other cartoon-to-movie I can't remember from the before-smartphones-and-social-media-times.
>>
>>144631418
Yes.
Those were all done by Jay Ward.
>>
Anybody know where I can download, or at least stream the reboot? (Also George of The Jungle)

Rocky was my nigga.

That was the most adorable fucking squirrel in cartoon history.

There’s a live action movie and it’s honestly not that bad. It’s dated but it represents the characters and show well.
Which one are you talking about though? I’m curious about that one.
>>
>>144628574
R&B are products of their time. They still hold up today. No need to try to "revive" them.

Nta but DreamWorks planned on making a Rocky and Bullwinkle film, but the underperformance of Peabody and Sherman put a quick stop to that. A short film and a Geico commercial are all that remain of that film and its assets.
>>
>>144628574
Believe it or not, I liked the live-action movie, and it serves like a good ending point for the characters, too.

But I also think that R&B are that type of characters that would fly well in modern era.

> shitpost animation quality
> meta jokes
> just really all sorts of jokes some of which are pretty dumb but that's what makes them extra hilarious
> the villains are Russians

They can return in full glory again, just don't make them gay couple or something like that.

Also, answering thread's initial question:

Felix the Cat

A well-recognized character even these days but things doesn't go too well for him since 90's movie failures.

>They got their own movie 24 years ago

Felix has to be the most mishandled popular character ever. Such a recognizable design, probably the first real cartoon star, and he really doesn’t have a lot to show for it. Twisted Tales is probably the best thing he ever got and it’s incredibly obscure.

> the only reason why HHPAYS exists is because a guy at CN happened to be a huge weeb and brought the band all the way from JP
> everyone else at CN hated it and pulled it from broadcasting as soon as he left
> and so it remains under the corporate carpet forever
> the band itself isn't even relevant in JP now

Shame.

>Twisted Tales

I fucking hated it. I get what was the idea, but I despise that wacky Bakshi-hellscape type of cartoons with a passion. Invented by a people who don't know shit about what makes a classic toon good.

Pottsylvania is as much a parody of Nazi Germany and general Eastern European stereotypes than just "Russia Bad". There's a reason Fearless Leader has a big ol Balkenkreuz on his chest and Pottsylvanian soldiers are often depicted wearing stahlhelms, after all. And much of the shows humor is dedicated to depicting Americans as ineffectual morons, especially if they're government officials. There's a reason Matt Groening often cited R&B as one of his major inspirations for his sarcastic, everyone's a dolt writing style.

>If anything, I'd kill to see Dudley get his own revival series

What's your opinion on that Brandon Fraser movie? I liked it as a kid
>>
>>144635009
This is the objective real answer in this thread. Felix is one of not the most mishandled popular character ever.
